What do you guys recommend,

17 x 7.5 (48mm offset)
17 x 7 (50mm offset)

Mostly i just want to get a wheel that will decently fill out the wheel well better than my stock wheels (16x7?)

Will there be a noticeable difference between 7 and 7.5 width in terms of the look?

Subaru factory wheels are

17x7 ET48
17x7.5 ET53

I believe

you have 16x7 wheels. must have an older RS. a lot of people like those wheels because most subaru 16 inchers are 6.5" wide. on that particular car 17x7.5 with 48 offset probably isn't such a great idea. the 48 offset is less than optimal plus that car doesn't have the space that a wrx sedan does. on YOUR car i'd probably go with the 17x7 with the better 50 offset and run 215/45/17 though you'll probably want to ask people with the same car that you have. hope this helped.

Flip those and thats pretty much correct.

Just to add a bit to the choices. I have a set of 16x7" RS wheels with the 205/55-16s on them. I really like the look of the 205 width on the 7" wheel(very little bellying of the sidewall.) I think the 215/45-17 might look as good on a 7.5" wheel.

I'm driving a MY02 impreza wrx. Yeah i just realized the stock wheel width is 6.5"

Is 17x7 with 50mm offset close enough to ideal?

I'm not sure if i'm thinking about this correctly but on a 17x7 wheel does a 50mm offset mean the wheels are pushed out further than a 48mm offset?

Thanks

I have an old chassis style car. I have NO problems using 17x7.5 +48mm wheels. I run 215/45/17 Sumitomo HTR Z 2s. I have never gotten any rubbing, not during auto-x, not with passengers in the back, never. The car is lowered with Eibach Pro Kit springs and AGX struts.

Nope, +50mm moves the wheel further inboard than +48mm.

You will be fine running either 17x7 or 17x7.5 +48mm.

A setup real similar to this would be good IMO. You can get a 225/45-17 on that rim on your car. But the extra bit of width is offset to me by the added weight(rotational mass,) and decreased mpg on a daily basis. The 215/45-17 will also gear the car slightly better for acceleration and is interchangeable with almost all the other Subaru platforms. If you are running auto-x, track etc you could get some 225s on 16s for those days.

I don't think you'll be able to tell much difference between the two. It all depends on what size tire you put on. For a sedan I would recommend 225/45/17 and wagon 215/45/17. Either offset is good;) . I have 17x7.5" SSR Comps and they have 50mm offset.
