4th time's a charm, right?

http://www.sprintspeed.com/25rs.jpg

I'm selling my 2000 RS coupe, silver, 5-speed, 85,000mi. No accidents, no rust, no mods except a K&N air filter. Has the tape/cd, armrest extension, Toyo T1-S, Hella fogs, and it's always had Mobil1 synthetic.

$10,500 KBB Good condition

The car has been cross country six times, it's very faithfull. My commute to work is 60mi each way, all NJTP. Thus the high mileage. It's been to Subaru for the wheel bearing recall/service notice, and the front O2 sensor replacement, papers to prove it.

One little scratch on the DS front bumper, my ex swiped it against another car. Only the paint came off, the plastic was not affected (niether scored or dented), and it is in plain view in the photo.

Vin# JF1GM6757YG401271 for those of you who wish to check it out. Please feel free to email me or post here with questions. I've posted this three times over the past months, each time I let the thread die when a buyer seemed serious. This time I will not hold the car for anyone, period. I'm located in New Jersey and am willing to bring it almost anywhere for the sale. Even Cali! (Cue Biggie)

Mine is this price because of the mileage, even though the car is otherwise great.

Wonder if I dropped an USDM EJ20 into her and jacked the price to say $17,000, would there be more response?

I rolled my car a week a half ago and I now miss my rs horribly badly. I am interested only catch is I am in Canada. I am interested though. PM me if you are intersted I will research getting it across the border.

are you interested in shipping the car? (sounds like you are...)

if so, i'm VERY interested...just need to talk to the bank to get some extra *bling bling* thrown my way, ASAP.

EDIT/i'm assuming the interior looks as nice as the rest of the car... ;) :D

A friend of mine is looking for an RS, but it is hard to find something locally.

Good luck with the sale.

I'm in Jersey too.. where are you located? I'm in North East Bergen County.

I live in Matawan, kinda by the Brunswicks. I work in Hainesport, kinda by Cherry Hill. I'm leaving for Florida this weekend, and as soon as I return anyone interested is more than welcome to arrange a time to see the car.

I will gladly arrange shipment of the car, but the buyer will need to foot the bill. If the timing is right, I'd drive it to the buyer to save them money.

The interior is also very clean, with just one small blemish on the passenger door trim. It's a little scratch, smaller than a pecil's eraser, and it's hidden from view by the passenger seat.

I don't have my PMs on b/c they used to fill up before I could reply and delete them. But I'm fairly religous about answering emails. Anyone who wants to speak with me (ohmigosh, human contact!) I will gladly email you with my phone number.

On Thursday night, I developed a severe hatred for deer.

http://www.sprintspeed.com/deer1.jpg

Notice the headlight, and grill are pushed back. The hood is bent, blinker vanished, and the Hella got the hoof.

http://www.sprintspeed.com/deer2.jpg

Bent headlight surround.

http://www.sprintspeed.com/deer3.jpg

Upon closer inspection, the bent sheetmetal didn't contact the A/C. Thank god!

http://www.sprintspeed.com/deer4.jpg

Straightened the sheetmetal, installed new headlight. Notice how the headlight lines up correctly with the bumper.

http://www.sprintspeed.com/deer5.jpg

New headlight, new Hella's, new corner lamps.

http://www.sprintspeed.com/deer6.jpg

Here the seam between the fender and hood can be seen back to original specs.

http://www.sprintspeed.com/deer7.jpg

I did everything possible to avoid the deer, which amounted to nothing. While avoiding deer #2, I looked over to the shoulder to spot up my escape route. The very first thing I focused on was deer #3. The deer took it like a champ. I think she was falling as the car hit her because she hit at bumper level, and she was easily 5 or 6 feet tall. Lucky for her, a few minutes of flopping around on the road was all she suffered, as she jumped up and took off for the woods in a healthy sprint.

To those interested in the car: I am lowering the price to $10,000 because there is a small bend in in the hood that I couldn't get out although I don't have a full blown autobody shop at my disposal. That price break is enough to fix & paint the hood.

With four cars, I probably shouldn't have been driving the RS, but hindsight is always 20/20.

It's been to Subaru for the wheel bearing recall/service notice

What was this? I have an MY00 RS, and the delearship never sent me anything about this. Where can I find out about it?

This is a VERY reasonable price for an RS. If I didn't already have one, I would definitely pick this one up.

The wheel bearing problem doesn't affect all RSs, but the ones it does usually need a couple replaced. The reason is that the replacement bearing is very sensitive to misalignment in the hub, and the hurried technicians usually don't take the time neccessary to install it properly. I see and hear about this all the time at RalliSpec. The easy fix is to use a Legacy bearing which is tapered by design.

Man, I REALLY WANT YOUR CAR!!!!! Hope that I get approved for that loan and I can find someone to buy my scooby. That really sucks about the deer, never had it happen to me, only a porkypine (sorry 'bout the spelling) hit my RR tire, coulda been worse.

It's been to Subaru for the wheel bearing recall/service notice

Was this an actual recall/service bulletin or did you just take it in because it went bad? Aren't all Impreza wheel bearings the same? So if it is a recall/service bulletin it should include everyone, at least that's what I would think.

Greg Sharpe
02-12-2003, 02:28 AM
I'm not sure what it's classified as, but every dealership I've been to (3) knew they were suspect parts and replaced it without haste. As far as I know, all AWD 95-01 Imprezas have the same bearing, and it's my understanding that the installation method "sometimes" damages the bearing. Legacy bearings (a tappered design) aren't nearly as affected by this supposed faulty installation. This is what I have heard from the various dealers the car has been too.

Not to confuse this situation any further, but if no one buys this car by the time I finish my USDM 2L turbo awd 95 wagon project, the wagon will go up for sale and this RS will become the project car. Anyone need a 350hp wagon?

slater
02-12-2003, 08:45 AM

Ooh! Me, me!:D Greg, You said its a USDM WRX based swap? Last time I saw it, it was out front with the primered jdm alum hood...How far is it from being finished? It would be a shame for you to do a whole project, only to sell it just to start another, but at least you'd have the satisfaction of selling it to me!:D Please drop me an email if you do end up putting the wagon up for sale.

Free bump for a great guy and a very sweet ride...Greg, I have to ask, why did you change over to WRX brakes? IIRC, WRX comes with 289 mm rotors, which are probably a little larger than RS rotors, but otherwise, aren't the twin piston calipers virtually the same? Interesting...the simple fact that the likes of Greg Sharpe changed out his RS brakes for WRX brakes makes me glad I've sourced a WRX brake package for my Legacy, and not an RS package.:D

Thanks for the kind words and free bumps! I changed over to the WRX brakes (rotors and caliper brakets) because the original rotors began to warp and since I had to get new rotors the WRX rotors were a logical upgrade. That's all. On a side note, I'm still on the original brake pads, @ ~80,000mi!

Sorry that I can't go down on the price, there's a loan issue here. The price is at KBB "good" value, nothing excessive about it.

The only thing wrong with the car, worth showing, is the small bend in the hood and that picture is in this thread. I even documented the repairs made after I bumped into the deer, it's all on here. The only other blemishes are as follows: a small, pencil eraser sized poke hole in the passenger side interior door panel which won't show up in pictures because it's all black; and the scrape on the front bumper which is shown in the pics on this thread.

I'll give you a call later today, as you are 2 hours behind the east coast??? I can probably call you around 5-6pm your time.

Damn!

Greg ... you should throw a WRX engine in it and keep it! Throw on those Gold 16's that are in your shop, and you'll have a hell of a car.

BTW ... tell Dave my WRX is running like a dream after the re-flash.

Glad to hear your car is running great again. We can't wait to see your STi!

The reason I'm selling the RS is to fund an old wagon project, it's getting a USDM WRX engine, and a few goodies!

I've even offered to put a USDM WRX engine in the RS, just to make it more appealing to potential buyers. No one is seriously conisdering it.

Greg Sharpe
04-20-2003, 12:54 AM
Nah, I haven't sat down to figure out the exact costs. However, just to ball park it for you: The 2.5RS $9,500 + the conversion $6,500 = ~$16,000. The engine is a freshly rebuilt USDM WRX 2L, STi Ver.7 valves and springs, new gaskets, 0 miles, everything else would be original equippment. Of course I could build other mods into it if you so desired. I've got a brand new VF22, STi injectors, Bosal DP, etc piled up for the wagon project which could go into the RS.

I used to live in California, so I would drive it out to you and visit my peoples at the same time, if you were so inclined.
