View Full Version : has anyone called you impreza a wrx

Example: I'm at the drive through ordering my food to go and the guy is like"hey man nice WRX!" I cringe each time I hear this, it means all work and effort into my RS means nothing.

Well at least the STi will be out soon so all the WRX people will know how we felt when the WRX came out.:D

People call mmy car a WRX all the time. I just politely correct them. :)

I had a guy ask me the other day at the gas station....
"Is that a "regular" impreza." I replied, "No, Irregular." He was not amused.

I don't think so. I've had people asked if I had a WRX and give me a blank stare when I said 2.5RS. I've also had people ask me if it was turbo. I left the 2.5RS badge on for a reason.

I think a better question would be has anyone not had their RS called a WRX.

hehe. true.

My father-in-laws friend STILL calls my car a WRX every time he sees it so I finally stopped correcting him

I've had it happen a lot.

But if you think about it, it's a bit odd that it happens so often. I mean, the new and old cars don't look a whole heck of a lot alike, you know?

Were this the UK or something, I'd understand, but over here it's a little weird. :)

trippledog, good one!

That is one of my biggest pet-peeves when it comes to my car. When I first bought my RS.... right before the WRX come out (as the commercials play on tv) everyone I would talk to...... gas station, drive thru, stop lights.......

"Is that the new WRX?"
"No, its a 2.5 RS!!!"
"Oh..... whats the difference?"
" "

Kurt

WE ARE THE ORIGINALS....... BOW TO OUR 2.5 POWER:devil:

Oh yeah....hate that crap! I had to break down and have a novelty plate made that says NOTAWRX. Funny how plastering it dead center on the engine at a show will still draw the question...

A typical conversation at a gas pump:

Clueless pos driver: "Is that a WRX?"

Me (politely): "No, it's a 2000 2.5RS, the old body style without a turbo.

Clueless: "Oh," now disappointed. "Is it fast?"

Me: "It's fast enough."

Clueless: "Oh well, looks nice. Peace out."

Me: "Thanks. Take it easy."

Ok have you ever had people in traffic yell at you or chase you down to ask about your car?

But yeah I've had alot of "Is it a WRX" , I'm impressed when someone least calls it an Impreza. i think the bugeyes and my car look nothing alike.

Whenever someone asks if mines a WRX I polotely correct the,m by.

Step 1: take 2.5RS badge from center console
Step 2: Place on their forehead.
Step 3: Take tire iron and beat permaent 2.5RS indentation into their foreheads.
Step 4: tell em to look in a **^^%$ mirror and drive off before anyone gets my plate #.

I got my car new and within my first week of ownership people were asking me if it was a WRX! The darn thing wasn't even available yet...

Then when I explained the difference to them they were like "Oh man, don't you wish you'd waited?"...

As it turns out I'm glad I didn't.... I was there first and I have the car to prove it!

I'm sure that's why they are asking too. They have the keen knowledge to know about the oversees WRX yet lack the eyesight to see the 2.5RS badge.

Better than when I was looking for some parts and the woman couldnt' find my car listed...after talking to her some more I found out she was doing a search for a Subaru pretzel.

Last time I had someone else do my oil change...about 1 and a half years ago I noticed that everyone in the shop was pouring around my car.
Curious I walked up and listened to what they were saying. They were looking for the turbo. One guy must have spend 10min under the hood looking for it. He couldn't understand why he couldn't find it. So funny.

BoyRacer
01-31-2003, 01:29 PM
Had my hood scoop open for a while when I lived in Texas.

I walked into a restaurant one day and was immediatly approached by 2 of the staff. They had made a $20 bet on weather my car had a turbo. The bets loser saw my WeaponR intake through the hood scoop and figured anything shiny must be an intercooler, so at least he knew something (although not much).

I had someone call my car an "exotic" car once and they were asking how fast it is and silly questions. Is it better then a Civic? "Absolutely, I used to have a civic before this and it has no where near the handling this one has", then they roll their eyes like "yeah right." Then they go on to say stuff like why isn't there alot more of these around then, so I answer "because you just don't know"

One of my faves is "Thats a Subaru???"

Also I too got the gathering around the car during an oil change.

Also had a guy in a 01 Celica ask me if it was the turbo and if it was the 6 speed tranny. Real bright one he was.

several times, the best one was, "your subaru's a 92 right?" if my 01 RS had fists, i'm sure that dude would be hurting right now. i still don't see how someone can confuse a GC8 for a WRX.

lol...i really don't mind when people say its a WRX tho, WRX is faster and I wanted and still want one! But a lot of people know what the WRX is so people jus think if its now a wagon OR a legacy then....its a WRX!! When I explain to people my car is an RS they are like...o ....so i just let then be intimadated and let them think what they wanna :p

Had to School a couple of hillbillies today
Them:You just watched the Fast and Furious right?
Me:No why do you ask
Them: Does that wing do anything ( I have a Ver5 real deal I think Subaru did some testing on it)
Me:I dont know its factory.
Them:I bet its and auto right.
Me: no its a 5 speed
Them:Well those front wheel drive hondas are all the same.
Me:So which Honda is all wheel drive and puts 230hp to all four wheels???
Them:?????????

At this point the light is getting ready to turn green, So I launch it fairly hard and put it into a four wheel drift through the Michigan left turn-round.
:monkey:to uninformed hillbillies.

I hope they learned something:lol:

I remember back in 98 when I saw an RS for the first time at a gas station.

Walked up to the guy.
Me: Hey nice car, how'd get the WRX here in the states?
98RS Stranger: I wish it was a WRX.
Me::confused:

He took off. After being asked that same question, I now knew how that guy felt.....annoyed

Ben,

Next time say yes. Explain to them the rake of the rear window causes flow near the rear decklid to become unattached and turbulent. Then say that the wing has to be tall to reach into the "good" flow to be useful.

It's not weird... The GC8 body style at one time was the ONLY impreza body style. The RS, WRX, and STi all looked pretty much alike all over the world, the WRX did not start life as bug eyed US car in 2002.

lol I know.. I know.. The American's only Knew the car as a "2.5RS Impreza Or 2.2L Impreza".. and the others.. unless they were a die hard fan of Subaru they would of Known what it was called over in Europe and Asia. And i think the bug eyed look started in 2001..? I dunno

Well my 2001 Impreza RS does not have the bug eye look (at least last time I checked :p ) . Maybe your thinking that the bug eyed WRX's were for sale in 2001 which is true, but they were selling MY2002 cars in late 2001... That always bugged me, how can you buy a car from the FUTURE?

Actually bug eyed WRX were sold as 2001 model year in most over seas countries. So they were actually being sold in 2000.

Right! But your question was, "That always bugged me, how can you buy a car from the FUTURE?"

And I was answering that the confusion started because bugged eyed WRX were sold as 2001 models in other countries. That means two things: 1) People over seas may be confused; 2) people here who read magazines that covers european/asia news, such as Autoweek may also be confused.

So the answer to your question is, due to the availability in different countries, it might appear to some that you CAN buy a car from the FUTURE.

 Ok fair enough, in this case anyway, but selling Model Year x in the year x - 1 seems to be a very common occurrence in the auto industry.... It bugs me because I'm anal.
