Here's a link to various shots of my 2002 Impreza Outback Sport. Haven't seen any other OBS pics on this board, so those looking for 'em can go here. The images are pretty large, so that's why I'm just linking to a page:

http://www.radianmusic.com/obs.htm

Got about 1000 miles on it so far, and I'm very satisfied. I've since removed the roof rack crossbars, which took only a few minutes to do.

I like the lighter color of the interior, esp the lower part of the dash. Does that light color continue the whole way across? (seen in the pic w/ open door where the fog/cruise buttons are). I hadn't seen that yet. ..and the top part of the door, or is that just the lighting for the pic?

The car looks nice. I like the black on the 02 obs more than older models.

...still waiting for my wrx, trying to sell my 99 obs (http://architecture.uky.edu/subaru) .

Nice ride, Luke! As a prior OBS owner, I can say they've definitely made some huge improvements. Enjoy that New Car feeling!

Nice ride Luke, and good luck with it. I've also been planning on a new OBS, but financial reasons have forced me to likely wait till the 2003 model year. Haven't seen much OBS-specific stuff on the board, so it's nice to see one. Of course, mechanically, I know it's similar to the RS. Still, it's nice to know there are other OBS fans out there.

While I initially preferred the look of the previous Outback Sport, the new look is growing on me. Although I still think I'd prefer the two-tone color to be carried at least some distance further up the door panels, rather than just across the narrow rocker panel. But, that's just personal preference. What's your feeling?

How do like the automatic? Did you consider a stick before deciding? I've test driven both and haven't made up my mind as yet. This would be my first autobox, and my first Subaru. While I've always gone with a manual transmission car in the past (several VW's, an Alfa Romeo and a Saab), I now have a feeling I'd like to try an automatic for the daily drive in stop & go traffic.

jcblack: I forgot to pay attention when I drove it this morning. I'm not sure about which shades of gray are where. After you get used to the interior, you hardly notice the variety of shades. Sorry.

Seamus: I don't mind the side paneling the way it is. I actually prefer it I think. Helps distinguish it a bit from the regular Outback. I actually wouldn't have minded having a single-tone car, but I'm still quite happy with how it looks.

As for the automatic, I chose it for ease of use and becuase I've never driven stick before. I'm certainly excited about learning to drive a manual, I just didn't want to do it on a new car. Plus I do lots of slow city driving, and my fiance prefers automatic as well.

The performance is good enough. Off the line the car doesn't accelerate that great, but it's very good at downshifting and accelerating quickly in traffic, and at getting up to highway speed. The power is quite noticeable around the 2500-4000 range. I've never extensively driven any other Subaru's and I'm not a performance guy, so my analysis might be a bit off.

Very nice.
I like that the OBS has the more agressive bumper in the new Gen.

nice choice of colors.

I saw my first RS locally too. Silverthorn with an older gentleman driving it.. had already dented the trunklid.. heh.. looked like they backed it into a poll.. poor little abused RS.

Very nice ride!!!! That shade of black is quite sharp. If it's your first Scoob, you're going to enjoy it alot; especially when there's snow. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

I have to agree that the more aggressive bumper with the bigger lights is pretty sharp; and more functional. Now if I can only scrap up some $$$ to get an RS bumper on my OBS... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/cool.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

Have fun and enjoy!!

Are the OBS wheels different from WRX wheels? Those look sharp!

Luke,
We just bought a 2002 OBS in black. It has blue metal flake in the paint that is especially visible at night when other headlights hit the car.

We traded in our 2000 OBS for it. The changes made were substancial. Gone are the hood scoops that looked real nice but didn't match the cars performance.

The 2.5 is definitely a boost over the 2.2 engine.

Better seats, rear compartment light, CD player and improved sound system. Roof racks that are removable in about 2 minutes vs. the old ones that we never could get off.
And no ribs down the roof to slow washin' and waxin'.

We like the 2002 a bunch to the third power. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/cool.gif

Had the windows tinted dark to save the interior. Even had the front window entirely tinted. So far, the officers that look at it are gawkin' not writin'.

Watch for our pix. They will more than likely be put on one of the sites by Subymamma. Possibly the Southeast Region or here.

Hey, I think I've seen you. I was walking though. If I ever see you when I'm driving, I'll wave and flash.
