i noticed that the H4 and the 9003 bulb that my car takes look physically identical, use the same wattage

however the purpose of the H4 lists as motorcycle/offroad vehicle....

and the spec sheet doesn't list light output as it does for the 9003....

anyone shed some light?

9003 and H4 bulbs are the same thing.

H4 is a European designation; 9003 is a DOT designation. European lights are only legal in the US if they're used off-road or on motorcycles.

I think technically the specification for 9003 bulbs is a little stricter on how well the filament is wound, but it doesn't matter as long as you use a decent bulb.

For all intents and purposes, the bulbs are interchangeable.

is there any difference in brightness?

9003 = H4 just like ketchup = catsup. They are the same thing- one is not brighter than the other. Two names for the same thing.

so is there anything i can put in that's brighter that'll just swap in?
right now i have sylvania cool blues and they're like 1.25x brighter than stock, it makes a difference, but i'd like something brighter than that.

Get rid of all that 'cool blue' and xenon type crap... it's foo foo dust. The eye is less responsive to blue light than to a bright white light. You could always get higher wattage bulbs if you need a bit more light or upgrade the headlamps (I went to Morettes for instance :D).

I went the same route also. They seem brighter but what North Ursalia they're more than likely not. I leave my Fog/driving lights on all the time whick helps a bunch. Make sure you aim them or you'll get people flashing you. I'm going to up grade to Catz HID replacments. (http://www.liteswap.com/hidconkit.html) You'll have to get the H4's. I really don't care if they're for off road use only. I'm not going to be in the states much longer. :p

they're white, as white as a white LED
they only have a blueish tint to them compared to a white light

i got them because pep boys doesn't have the silverstars, and i read the spec sheet and these put out the same number of lumens.

i was very hesatent to buy them in the case that they'd be blue like the apc lights, but they're not

i will be upgrading to the apc headlights and i know that brighter bulbs can be put in those, and high beams can be wired to have both beams on, but until i have the money for that (engagement ring) i am hoping to maximize my light output of the stock hl's

I don't know about my cool blues. Yes, they were better than the stock ones right after I installed them. But now....they just seem so dim if I turn off the fogs. Are you going to be up grading to these APC GEN II PROJ. THe ones in the top left corner look kinda' like those off the Electra Impreza. Listen to Brian. Personally, I avoid anything with a tint to it. All they do is filter the visible light. Why would you want to do that? I want a truly clear and brighter light (not filtered). I tried the Silverstars (slight tint) and ended up switching to XtraVisions (clear).

do a search on the procarparts headlights, they're the same thing and ppl like 90% are happy w/ them say they fit great,
