Hey all,

I like this forum and it's empty so here's a question that just came to me... This morning after the car warmed up (I always drive at 50% or less throttle until the temp gauge shows normal operating temp) I turned the heat on and got a whiff of coolant for about 5 seconds... Then it went away....

Need I be concerned? Or do I have an over active olfactory organ?

The motor is pretty much stock so I shouldn't have blown any gaskets right?

Thanks in advance...

How many miles are on the car??? Could be a blocked/leaking heater core.

33,000 miles...

The heat worked fine and the smell went away after a few seconds... So I know it's not totally broken... If the heater core was leaking, I'd think that the smell would continue. Although maybe not.

Yeah if the core was leaking it would be smoky constantly, well best I can tell you is get under it and look for leaks.
Check at the heads for wet spots, check water pump, hoses radiator for dried coolant.

Recently, when I parked in my garage after driving home from work, I could smell coolant in the garage. I didn't find any leaks on the floor, but I did notice some dried coolant around some hose clamps and at the radiator drain plug. I tightened the factory hose clamps and the drain plug and now the smell is gone. Maybe your clamps & plug have gotten a little loose over time too.

(P.S. I had about 33K miles when I noticed the smell.)
