Made a great score!! This car is a total virgin, 100% bone stock (for now). Car looks brand new, had to have been garaged.

Look out canyons, here I come!

First off... nice purchase!

Now, then...

As far as mods go, here's what I say you do. You live in California, so you don't need winter tires. Which means you can keep your OEMs for some random winter where you might actually need them, but chances are you won't, so go get yourself a set of decent sticky tires. That's the best bang-for-buck mod you can ever do. (Well, after racing school of course. :) )

After that, my vote goes to a couple of things:

1. 18mm STi rear swaybar
2. Kartboy short shifter (& bushings, if you like)

The engine stuff can wait. Do those first. The 18mm swaybar is great for the stock suspension, and does very well even with upgraded suspensions. I wouldn't go with anything bigger in diameter, for the OEM suspension. 20mm *maybe*, but that's it.

Then you can always go for a WRX front brake upgrade. The RS has 10.7" front rotors, and the WRX has 11.4" I think. So you can buy the "WRX upgrade" kit from places like Exeter Subaru in NH (no sales tax :D ) at www.subaruwrxparts.com/per-gc8.html .
They also sell the STi swaybars (and Kartboy stuff too, but you can buy Kartboy direct as well).

I was gonna get a WRX last year when I lost my job. I much prefer a 2 door and the front end that is on OUR cars!!

Just found out I am actually getting a RETURN this year!!!!!!

private party or dealer?

I found it on ebay, said it was located at an independent car sales lot. It was local, so I went to go look at it. Some clown there said $17,500. I went home and was the only bidder.

I think I got a decent deal :D

I think that is an excellent deal....$13.8k from a dealer is good. Is yours a 4dr or 2dr

My 2000 RS Coupe (9000miles private party) cost me in the low 14k...

Well, I guess we are twins until I do the few appearance mods I'm thinkin about...
STi foglight covers
clear corner lenses
22b hood vents
STi Ver5 front lip (maybe)
Painted Side skirts
Volk 17" LE37T (gunmetal w/ polished lip)

I finally got an RS last month for $12,500. Manual, BRP coupe, it had only 32,000 miles on it.

for your first mod...clear out all those ugly amber lenses!!!
Get clear corner, side fender, front bumper, and STi clear tails...after i bought my car which had all of those done already...i saw other cars w/ stock ones and i couldnt beleive how cheap it makes it look after drooling over my car!

Intake and Exhaust really open this car up considerably. I'm hoping to get some new tires to replace the Blowtenzas, an 18mm rear sway, f&r strut tower braces, clear corners, kartboy short shifter......the list goes on :D The big thing is finding the money to support it all *sigh*

I just got a white 2000 RS coupe with 48,000 miles. It seems to be in good condition. wierd thing happened today though...I'll paste the post I put elsewhere to explain. If anyone can help out it would be appreciated.:D

I went to the dealer to get brakes flushed, fuel filter changed & to get everything checked out. It got a good bill of health.
I went to an asian specialist repair center to get plugs changed & radiator flushed. That was yesterday. That nite I changed the oil(synth-blend) and the filter.
While driving home tonite the CHECK ENGINE light came on. I pulled over into a gas station & opened the hood to check out the situation. Low & behold a dude in a 2001 RS pulled up & we got to talking. I explained to him what had happened. He said that RSs are notorious for having a very sensitive Engine Light activation. He said it could be the O2 sensor, but had no definite answer.
Does anyone have any idea what this may be. I am going to take it back to the asian dudes tomorrow to have them hook it up & check it out.
I am auto ignorant & am just now trying to learn all i can about this cool vehicle so I can modufy in the future.

thanks for help,

dave

Hondakilla - Definately plan to ditch many of the amber lenses, but appearance mods are secondary.

Seeing Stars - I have already begun shopping for many suspension goodies, a few cusco items ought to do me some good as well as the STi Engine/Trans mounts. Also planning on a Cobb intake. Thank god the ebay sales are doin well to fund this fiasco!

Dingo Dave - sorry man, that sounds like a weird problem alright considering you only had normal service done. Get the code reader on it and see whats up.

Congrats on a great purchase. It's kind of sad, though, to see so many for sale to begin with. But, it sounds like they're being picked up by people that know what they're looking for.

I'm still unmodded after all these years. Maybe someday...

Woo! Grats Rokket. I just picked up the exact same thing, except it only had 17k miles on it.

I didn't realize sway bars were so cheap. Looks like time to hit Tire Rack and find somewhere to buy an 18mm STi swaybar :D
