So, in my search for my very own Subbie, I've come across a '97 Brighton that may be promising. But, the truth is, I like having power windows, mirrors, and locks.
So, I ask this of you Subbie Gurus out there - would it be possible to add any/all of these power options to a Brighton? If so, just what would it entail, and what would be the cost of the required parts be?
Thanks

97 brighton, is that the 1.8l? Those have more hp than the older 1.8's btw.
Anyhow, yes it is feasable, but I think it would cost more than you want to spend... Unless you have extra money left from the GTI sale :p

go to your local scooby junkyard, you can get the parts you need for cheap there. The more parts you buy, the better the price usually. I was going to add power windows to my L, but I have to sell her now. I think you need just the new interior door skin, with the controls, the motor and internals from an L with power window option + wiring. Those places usually have doors upon doors lined up, so just go and find what you need and gut it out. You can do the same with the locks and mirrors. That's your cheapest/best bet if you want to go that route... The mirrors will be the most expensive.

I was in the exact same boat as you a month ago. Many cars came by without the power accessories that I deemed necessary... p.windows and p.locks.
Now I know I'm a lazy fart so I decided NOT to get a bare bones car and then later add the power accessories on my own as it would NEVER get done. If you're the industrious type with lots of time on your hands and willing to search around for the parts you need and are willing to donate lots of time to this search, then go for it. Keep in mind all the dosh you'll be spending on gas driving around to wherever you need to go to get this stuff. If you have lots of auto graveyards close to you and you're handy then it might be a no-brainer.
I opted for the easy way out and got a 1997 L with pl and pw.
Hope that helps. :)

Well, from what I hear, there is a really good Subbie graveyard just North of me. So, I'm assuming I will find parts. I was more worried about the actual installation of the parts and the cost to purchase the parts.

I looked into it - because I have a Brighton with only power mirrors (why mirrors??? I'll never know - since I bought her used I didn't get to choose)
To get the parts through a dealer will run about $1k. Here in Milwaukee the junk yards wanted almost that much too... I don't know how things will be by you, but I've been trying to find somewhere I can get them from a bit cheaper...
Hopefully you have more luck than me...
I went from a car w/ power everything to one w/ only power mirrors - but I still LOVE my car!!!

1K for parts is just absurd...
I could understand that from the dealer, but not a junkyard.
