Yes this fits the NEW model Wrx that will be released in the USA shortly, we have had this model here for a few months now :)

The scoop on the NEW model is different as is the hood, lights, fenders bumper etc. The scoop on the Sti is simply HUGE!

let make this straight first.. is the NEW sti scoop as in 04 US spec wrx going to fit 02-03 US spec (bug eye) wrx?? If so, that's one interesting product and would like to see some pics of how everything goes together.

CORRECT they ONLY fit the new shape WRX that goes on sale in USA soon, the rest of the world call it the "MY03" you may call it MY04/04 !!

We have also just released this scoop, (SEE PIC) the image is STANDARD, but we have one EXACTLY the same except 10 mm (say 1/2 inch) higher than Stock WRX

These are in stock and fit perfectly into the OE Hood.

BTW we also have the same scoop made to fit a non turbo hood that has no OE sccop, the part we make is designed to look the same however it fits on TOP of the hood and is very easy to fit and if you want "cred" you can make a hole and it works basically the same!

yeah its a problem we have all over the world, you lot in the USA are always one year ahead of the rest by description, but the "rest" of all of us refer to ot as "03" :)

Its not really the function over form you think. CAR magazine said Subaru intended to make it smaller because it made huge drag but 9/11 created a problem and it couldn't be redesigned until next year. So you better like the looks because its actually style over substance.

Patiently waiting for bug eye '04 scoop. ;)

The new scoop has increased drag but makes a major improvement over the previous model/s as it now hooks air into the TMIC at speeds that the old one failed to work.

The older models stop scooping air at a certain speed as the scoop sits in a dead air zone created by the shape of the hood.

This "zone" moves backwards as speed increases to a point at a certain speed that the scoop basically is useless..

The new scoop solves the weakness

Just a quick question, wouldn't the new shape of the hood on the 04 also have an affect on the ability of the new scoop to suck in more air at speeds the old scoop/hood combo couldn't. It sounds as if everyone thinks that it is simply the scoop that is doing this. I am under the understanding that it is the complete aerodynamical redesign of the front end that lends to this. If I'm wrong, let me know, but I can't see how putting this scoop on the old hood will eliminate the problem. :(

I don't think anyone is implying that it is the scoop alone. The taller scoop can only help increase (catch air) the flow on even our hoods relative to the wimpy little joke we have. Even if it does not eliminate all of the problem - it should help some. This possibility is the key to me, the look it will give the car will be bonus.

Obviously the hood didn't solve all the problem or they wouldn't have put such a massive scoop on top of it. (You didn't imply that it would, just exapanding my point.) Each part obviously contributes and I bet at high speeds the IC is still air starved - that is a trait of all top mounts mounted that far back on the hood. You want a good deal of air going over the car not slamming into the cowl at the base of the windshield.

According to my last datalog.....My IAT only raised 17°F with the stock hood scoop, no heat shield on turbo either. Car was at full operating temp. 3rd gear, hard pull to redline....Outside temp was 40°F.

So, in my uneducated opinion, the stock hood scoop isn't all that bad, granted it could be better, especially for trying to scavange for air in hot temps. I'm looking at it this way....If this scoop is larger, it will more than likely get up higher into the airstream and suck in more air to throw on top of that TMIC. Plus the styling que is KILLER! But take this FWIW........Just my .02

Make sure it doesn't fly off at high speeds, that would really suck. I'd imagine there'd be a lot more force on it at high speeds than the stock scoop because of the increased drag it creates.

His reference to 03/04 was foreign MY STi's that fit the same foreign MY WRX. The USDMY 2004 style scoop to USDMY 2002/03 hood is finishing development and I don't think it is available yet.

Isn't Mastro Subaru (Tampa) an MRT dealer?

While I do like the size I was looking at it more closely at the NYC auto show and wonder if its angles/lines will look right with the shapes in our hoods. I am cooling on the idea, it will be interesting to see.

I am also itching to replace my scoop as well. I have the $$, but I would like to see more pics of it. Considering that your scoop will be a considerable amount more than my other options, I want to make sure that it is your product that I want to go with.

I also understand that you want to protect your interest as a business. You have the market captured at the moment because you are the first spend the time and $$ in R&D as well as production. this is a message we just sent out to all MRT P resellers

Regretfully we have had to scrap our mould of the 03 / 04 STi hood scoop that will fit the earlier 'bug eye" 01 02 Impreza's
(part number SUWB246CB )

Reason being is the supply was moving along very healthily, but the quality of the product comming from the mould was not consistent,

The product is in high demand and we are very annoyed to have to do this, however its better to keep the quality high than disappoint clients with poor product.

We expect this to add at least 4 - 5 weeks to the supply of any new stock.
In the meantime we will keep a record of orders and new stock will be supplied to resellers in order of of your placed order.

Hey did this 04 to 02/03 (bugeye) scoop ever make it to fruition? A friend of mine is looking for it. I once saw it on Mastro Subaru's site, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Anyone have this or know a link. I also looked on MRT's site with the part # from this thread and it turned up nothing. MRT are you still making these?
