View Full Version : STi Performance Muffler
skyhigh420 06-07-2001, 03:08 PM SO, Subaru is selling this way too expensive muffler, and then they won't even install it. I noticed that it states that installing this muffler may void the warranty. Does anyone know if this is true?If it is true why edit bad language would anyone buy theirs? There must be 100, probably better, and definitely cheaper ones out there and I assume will have the same risk with the voided warranty. anyone...

STiTuner 06-07-2001, 05:30 PM My prodrive muffler has a lifetime warantee... and will it void a warantee? When I asked everyone at the dealer the consensus was "NOPE".
Brad
Must be something damn good about prodrive if Subaru of UK will produce cars with their name on it and warantee them right?
srosqvist 06-07-2001, 06:36 PM Keep the original parts just in case you have to take it in for a warrenty job...
That goes for smog checking as well...
Devil_ChildAC 06-07-2001, 07:17 PM in Canaduh.. we call that Air-Care  :D and usually juss switch it b4 that....

pbnj9786 06-07-2001, 07:28 PM does STi muffler have 3" piping?
When I was shopping for a WRX 2 months ago, I was flipping through the option sheets the dealer had and noticed te STi muffler and suspension. It had the note at the bottom about voided warranty, so I asked the deler about it.
Me: "It says that this is for off road use only and will void the warranty. But that is only for the actual part, right?"
Him: "No, we are not allowed to put the parts on the car and if you do, it voids the warranty on the enrite vehicle"
Me: "So you are saying that if I put thhese struts on my car and the turbo dies, that will not be covered??"
Him: "Yes. These parts are ment only for off road type racing so we assume anyone who installs them will drive that way and we will not provide any warranty coverage."
?!?!
I was not really in the mood to argure since he was ready to hand the keys over to my wife and I for an unaccompanied test drive, but was he not thinking that day? This is a dealer that has reciever very good comments for both sales, service and "understanding" about mods. Plus, this was the allocation manager or whatever that title is. Since the reviews on here were good and the proce was right, I ordered anyway but I still cant beleive what that guy said...
Faraz 06-08-2001, 01:12 AM for the new REX SOA "can" get the STi Ghome(as in the TV commercial) muffler ...I haven't seen one that will ...but that's different.
Man all your dealers suck ...mine said if the part says Subaru or STi and we install it its warrentied ...I asked about exhaust, suspenion, and a AT tranny cooler ...I've gotten the susp. and all the dealer said ...well if you blow a strut we ain't giving you in new stock ones ...and if you get a AT tranny cooler ...make sure "WE" install it ...or we can find some way to void your warrenty if something goes wrong....and for exhuasts ...borla, brospeed, and STi are the only ones that we won't void your warrenty for ...if we want.
my dealership is pretty cool with mods, and the mech. loves to drive my car around when its in the shop. So, so far its all good

jay25RS 06-08-2001, 09:03 AM Just that for $750.00! What are they thinking!? Doesn't even include a midpipe. Geeze, someone at SOA better realize that there are better choices out there for less and do something!
Conduit 06-08-2001, 09:14 AM This is a bunch of hooey. It is ILLEGAL for them to void the warranty of an unrelated part. If you install struts and your turbo dies, they HAVE to cover it. If you install an exhaust, and your alternator fails, they HAVE to cover it. Furthermore, if they deny you warranty service, they have to be able to show, in court, that the modification was DIRECTLY responsible for the failure. Dealerships and salesmen are generally full of bs about this stuff. They have a vested interest in making you pay for the repair, think about it.
Subie Gal 06-08-2001, 09:15 AM calm down guys...
they are not expecting to sell this muffler or the bbs wheels to you and i...
THE INFORMED PERFORMANCE CONSUMERS...
these are designed (and quite ingeniously) to sucker in the newbie "i gotta lotta money to blow on my wrx" non enthusiast types...
the uneducated... the ones that dont care to shop around... the ones who are loaded and dont give a rats arse....
not for us... they know better than that...
so chill... and buy your exhaust somewhere else... it's that simple...

sugar 06-08-2001, 09:18 AM This is the SOA Sti muffler
List is $895
mad-dog999 06-08-2001, 09:51 AM I think it's been mentioned before, but they can't void your warranty on the car for using aftermarket parts. If there is a failure, they have to prove that the aftermarket part was at fault to deny warranty coverage.
As for them not having a warranty on the STI parts, that's just the way it goes. :) Cest la vive. ;)
Edit: Hey! I like those BBS wheels! :p Not for $750 a piece, but ya know. ;)

STiTuner 06-08-2001, 08:25 PM probably like my prodrive pipe and doesn't even include the damn gasket :(
Brad
imprezadan 06-08-2001, 08:35 PM Technically, a vehicle manufacturer must prove that the aftermarket part caused the existing condition. The dealer will tell you otherwise, but that is the way it works.
sugar 06-09-2001, 01:54 AM Specs on the SOA Sti muffler
