I own a 03WRX and I need to buy a second [family] car. I love Subaru's but I'm not over keen on the Forester.

I love the idea of the Baja but I'm a bit paranoid that they are going to significantly overhaul the Baja due to slow (poor?) sales.

I don't want to make the plunge and then in 6-18 months find that a much improved model has been released. Especially as there seems to be a lot of talk about Turbo's etc...

Saying all that though, I do love the idea of the Baja and it looks kinda neat. I think I would buy a yellow one as you can get away with it on the Baja.

Can you convince me to buy one????:confused: ????:)

What deals are going around at the moment? A great deal may make me make the plunge!!!!!!

call up any dealer I'm almost positive you'll be able to find crazy deals just because theyr'e not moving. As for waiting there has been talk of both a turbo baja and a lesser baja. The baja sport (cheap version) should be priced around the 22k range and i'm not sure about the turbo but obviously it's gonna be more.

I got mine for way below sticker just by shopping around. Look on ebay they have some crazy deals right now (if you don't mind getting a red one).
as for more speed goes,
my cost so far,
530 jdm b4 hood
275 have it painted/installed
(500 have it repaired,along w/ winshield and roof, due to unfortunate accident)
275 custom 2.5inch cat back exhuast
I am currently awaiting the completion of repairs but the second that's done it's time for the final stage of project monkey:devil: .

In hindsight do research and find a good metal worker who can custom make a hood for you. It would cost alot less then the 800 i spent.

You should definitely go for it. There is talk about bringing a lower end model for the near the same price. The good thing about it is that you can do so much with it. If they bring in a turbo in it o'well you can have one put in for the same price as having it come with it and it may not have the nice leather seats in it. You will totally enjoy the smooth ride and the handling is good (not like the WRX though as it is a bigger vehicle). I like the manual cuz its fun. Right now leather comes standard the lower end won't. I don't know if the turbo Baja will or not.

Go for it and have fun!!!:p

Why not just get a GT wagon?
Carries more stuff out of the weather - like a dog for example
Higher load capacity
Handles betters
Will be easier to sell or trade
Styling - well that's a personal choice

Unless you have a specific cargo need need for carrying small messy stuff like shrubberies or sandy gear from the beach...

Yes, 2004 will have a turbo option.

I couldn't stand paying the dough and then seeing a significantly higher performance 2004 model for around the same $$$?

As for the "leather option", doesn't really bother me as I've given up on the S&M!:lol:

Why not a Legacy?

They will debut the Baja turbo at the NY show this week, Wednesday is the first press day. I'm gonna see it in person on Friday.

It'll be in dealers this summer, so if you want one, that's just a couple of months, I'd wait.

With current discounts Bajas carry a good price advantage over the Outback. Fitzmall.com has autos for $20.5k, while even base 5 speed Outback cost more than that, with no leather, moonroof, or auto.

So, why not GT? Price is one answer.

Unless you want a Legacy L/SE, those are IMO the best value in Subaru's whole lineup.

1- Got a twins (yeah, kids). Need four seats, at least
2- mountain bike - once a week for sure.
3- park inside the gararge (punk kids live around, smashing some windows) - can't do roofrack inside.
4 - hate hitch
5 - to haul big stuff, I'll borrow a pick up (duh!)
6 - hate pick ups, how they drive and how people drive them.

Thought about Forrester, but bikes don't fit inside neatly. If it does, I either have to take both wheels off, or take car seats off and fold. Pain in the neck. Same with Outback. This is the solution - with turbo, I have nothing else to say.

If sales for turbo is slow, or new body style come out next year, turbo baja with current style will be in market only for a year. Talk about driving capable/functional car that's very rare. Again, if I need to haul stuff, I'll get pick up. But I don't. (Bike) + (kids) + (need to park inside) + (hate pick up) = baja.

my mom just bought a BAJA --- it is pretty nice ... i love my WRX more but the BAJA is cool !

I'd wait for the turbo.

I just got back from test driving one with a friend. Now I know my wrx is a COMPLETELY different vehicle but even my friend thought his 92 cavalier with 100k miles felt faster and more powerful.

Power isn't really his main concern.. but the lack of it turned him off of buying one until the turbo comes out. Of course by then he'll probably have just bought a truck.

I've also been considering the turbo baja as my next car...also a family car. My only concern is that you can only fit two people in the back seat! Has anyone done any research to see if there is a rear seat mod made to make it a three seater? If so I'm interested for early next year...if Not I'm waiting for the new legacy or outback or maybe the new 7 seater if it ever comes out.

I agree with hatake. The baja is definatally not a truck and it is not desiged to do big hauling. It is more of the weekend warrior type. You have 4 people (why anyone would take 5, I don't know. I have a legacy and I never take 5 people because it is just too crammed back there) going camping, mt biking, diving, skiing/snowboarding, etc... the bed is a perfect size for all the stuff that you are taking with you. As for hauling, the baja has a ok towing raiting of 2300lbs and you can get a hitch (for people that are ok with a trailer hitch) and get a flat be trailer to do the more intensive hauling (please take lessons before considering yourself a master at it, too many people overload and/or don't know how to load a trailer and drive one properly i.e. - driving too fast on the freeways with a loaded trailer and tailgating = bad mess). This is my 2 cents worth. I plan on waiting untill at least the turbo comes out or if by chance they get the ray of genius of puting a H6 in one.
