HS WRB-rex 03-17-2003, 02:55 PM which ones fit the OEM Subaru 4pots?
OAKOS Automotive 03-17-2003, 02:58 PM They look pretty much identical to the OE bleeder screws.
Here is the Speed Bleeder in the caliper:

I believe that the 4 pots use the same size screws as the '97+ Imprezas. The easiest way to tell for sure is to see what size wrench fits on the bleeder screw. If it is a 8mm wrench then they should be the same.

OAKOS Automotive 03-17-2003, 05:07 PM The non-SS Speed Bleeders are made from 12L14 carbon steel. They will hold up just fine under adverse conditions (salty roads, etc.), I think the SS is more for looks but I had a few requests for them so I ordered some. Also, they all come with rubber caps that help to keep the top section insulated from the elements.

tazman976 04-28-2003, 06:33 PM I just recieved my speed bleeders. perfect timing since my Stoptech Stage 2 also arrived today. Now to get it all installed.
Matt...
garface 04-28-2003, 07:29 PM Do you have a link with details and directions on these? How much is a set for the StopTech BBK and stock rears and when will they be available? Thanks.
KanosWRX 04-28-2003, 11:55 PM would anyone care to post directions on how to use these. I am going to be installing new pads soon and might do the lines and fluid too. but I have no experience with bleeding the brakes, maybe these will make it easier, but still need directions.
turboICE 04-29-2003, 12:23 AM Doesn't get any easier:
Once you get your Speed Bleeder®, it is very simple to install:
Simply clean the area around the old bleeder screw so that no dirt or contaminants can get into the brake system. (use brake cleaner)
Remove the old bleeder screw and discard.
Screw in the Speed Bleeder® into the wheel cylinder or caliper until it seats.
Unscrew the Speed Bleeder® 1/4 to 1/2 turn. (put tube on the bleeder leading into an empty container)
Here comes the magical part. Slowly pump the brake pedal approximately 4-5 times. (You do not have to close the bleeder screw between pumps.) A one way check valve lets the air and fluid out when the pedal is pressed and closes between pumps preventing new air from reentering the system between pumps.
After bubble-free fluid comes out of the Speed Bleeder® screw, close the Speed Bleeder® until it seats.
Proceed to the next wheel cylinder or caliper until all are bled.
Just put AP Racing 4 pot calipers on the front and SS hoses all around and bought stainless speed bleeders for them and my stock rears. They worked beautifully flushed the entire system on them. My brakes have never been bled so well, I was concerned about possible air leaking back - brakes are rock solid.
WRX is RF, LR, LF, RR bleed order.
Bump for a good vendor as well.
garface 04-29-2003, 12:37 AM Thanks, how do you know when you're done with each corner? After a certain amount of fluid is put in or just when the bubbles stop? What if there wasn't any air in the system, then no bubbles right?
turboICE 04-29-2003, 01:01 AM With two people you can just have someone watch the tube and give it two or three more good pumps for good measure after seeing no bubbles. Make sure you pump them slow and steady and in full strokes all the way to the floor and back.
By myself I usually have fluid in the container with the end of the tube submerged. When I bleed I usually give it five good pumps by then the hose should be primed and filled with fluid, I then set the hose up so there is a curve a good 6 inches above the bleeder. I give it one good pump and see if there is any air in the raised part. If there isn't any I give two or three pumps, close it off and move to the next one.
Now, I admit I use more fluid than some on my bleeds but I don't mind replacing a good deal of fluid that is closest to the heat and abuse it takes in and near the caliper.
This is just my way with them - besides once you open the brake fluid you can't store any that you have left. It pulls water from the air while in storage and ruins it. So buy the small bottles and might as well use at least a whole bottle.
OAKOS Automotive 04-29-2003, 01:00 PM tazman976, I'm glad the timing worked out just right for ya.
garface, we have a set for WRX's running the StopTech BBK. Here is a link to it on the website: Speed Bleeder, Set (6) - StopTech Calipers (http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=355&Product_Code=SBST40). It includes (4) bleeders for the ST-40 StopTech front calipers and (2) for the stock rear calipers. The price for it is $42 shipped.
KanosWRX, jehcpa pretty much summed up the install. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.
jehcpa, thanks a lot for all your input! You saved me a good bit of work. :D

Mitch 04-30-2003, 03:28 PM Dave.
I ordered a two sets of these speed bleeders for my 98 RS. I used an 8mm wrench for the front ones. But the rears, Needed a 10mm. The speed bleeder was just too small to fit the rears. Do you know of a difference between the brake systems on the various years of RS 2.5's?
OAKOS Automotive 04-30-2003, 04:32 PM Mitch,
I am very sorry to hear that you had trouble with the bleeders. The fronts took the SB7100's but the rears are larger? If so, that is the first time I have heard of that. I will send you a replacement set of the SB1010's (10mm) for the rear calipers. I will include a new label and postage in the package so you can just stick the old ones in, slap the postage on, and drop it in a mail box somewhere.
-Dave
Mitch 04-30-2003, 06:34 PM Dave.
I'd like to do that but I can't. I Had a brain fade when bleeding the fronts and broke offone of the bleeder screws at the base on the caliper. I had to wait one day and go to a machine shop to have them E-Z out the old one and used one of the 8mm bleeder screws I'd gotten for the rears up front. So now I have a spare bleeder screw for the fronts. I'd like to have the 10mm's for the rear though. If you'r still willing to send out the 10's with an invoice I could drop a check in and mail back the payment. Or if that's not possible. E-mail me and we'll get payment strategies straightened out. Thanks for the initial good value and prompt delivery.
Mitch

Would it be possible for me to buy just one pair of speed bleeders?
OAKOS Automotive 05-05-2003, 11:02 AM Yep, we offer them in pairs. It isn't on the website so if you would like to order a set you can either give me a call here or you can send Paypal to sales@oakos.com. They are $14 + $1 shipping for a pair.

Nevermind! I saw it. Sorry!
mtb_dude 05-16-2003, 12:15 AM Do you have a speed bleeder that fits the clutch? Getting close to brake and clutch fluid changes for me :)
OAKOS Automotive 05-16-2003, 12:06 PM I am pretty sure that the clutch cylinder takes the SB7100 (7mm) Speed Bleeder. I have a prototype SS braided clutch hose here that I will probably be installing this weekend so I should know for sure soon. :D

jjunior887 06-16-2003, 06:27 PM Just ordered a set along with some KB shifter bushings. What's the best way to replace all the brake fluid? I'm coming up on my 30K mile service and was thinking of doing it myself if it's not too hard.
OAKOS Automotive 06-16-2003, 06:45 PM jjunior887, Thanks a lot for placing another order with us! :) I'll send you a shipment confirmation email tomorrow after your parts are shipped out.
To replace all the fluid in my car I used a syringe, without the needle, and attached a short piece of rubber hose to it. I used this to extract the fluid from the master cylinder. You don't want to run the MC dry, but removing a lot of the fluid helps to speed up the process. After that, top off the MC with fresh fluid and start the bleeding procedure. Bleed generous amounts of fluid from each caliper to be sure that you have fresh fluid all the way through the lines. Let me know if you have any questions. :)
-Dave
jjunior887 06-16-2003, 06:51 PM Do you just bleed one caliper until you start seeing the new fluid? then move on to the next one and do the same for each? I know this is a routine procedure for most but I've never messed with my brakes at all so I'm kind of a Newbie there. Thanks for the help Dave -James
OAKOS Automotive 06-16-2003, 07:00 PM James,
Depending on the type of fluid you use, you may or may not be able see the new fluid coming out of the caliper. If you can't tell the difference between the new and old fluids (I couldn't when I did my car) just bleed a lot of fluid out to be sure you got all the old stuff out.
-Dave
jjunior887 06-16-2003, 07:05 PM I may try something that is noticable the first time just so I get the idea. Thanks again Dave -James
remarcable 06-17-2003, 02:04 AM I'd love to buy the hoses/bleeder kit but I'd like to know if the lines will work on a 99 legacy outback. I've ditched the stock wheels in favor of 205/55/16 GT wheels, so the only possible snag would be the slightly taller struts.
I can't think of any other reason why they wouldn't fit, but I figured it would be best to ask first.
Also, ATE SuperBlue brake fluid is great for bleeding brakes. It's blue! I bleed with normal fluid until it stops flowing blue, then put in the good stuff and wait for the flow to turn blue again.
OAKOS Automotive 06-17-2003, 12:18 PM James,
Another thing to keep in mind is that the brake system takes about 17 US fluid ounces of brake fluid so you use that number to "measure" the amount of fluid that you put into the system.
remarcable, I am really not sure if the WRX brake hoses will fit the Outback or not. Thanks for the tip about the brake fluid. Using a different color is a great way to be sure all the old fluid has been evacuated.

mtb_dude 06-17-2003, 12:26 PM Replaced all the caliper nipples with speed bleeders this weekend and flushed with ATE Super Blue. They work great! I agree the different color fluid is the way to go. It makes it almost a no brainer. Also, they make a "gold" ATE also, so you can swap between blue and gold ATE for changes. :)
I was a little surprised at how much air was in my lines after less than two years. Made me feel a whole lot better when the bluid fluid flowed out without a hint of air.
OAKOS Automotive 06-17-2003, 12:48 PM mtb_dude, Thanks for the input. I am glad to hear that you are happy with your new parts. :)

garface 06-24-2003, 03:48 PM Hi, do you know of or have the correct bleeder for bleeding the clutch fluid? That's the only other fluid on the car besides the brakes that would be able to use a speed bleeder, correct? Thanks.
Dave,
Got my speed bleeders yesterday. Thanks for expediting the shipping. Great customer service and one of the best vendors around. :D
Calvin
OAKOS Automotive 06-25-2003, 09:59 AM garface, I'm almost positive that the clutch cylinder takes a 7x1mm (SB7100) Speed Bleeder.
Calvin, You are very welcome. Thanks a lot for the great compliments! :D

okiedude 06-26-2003, 10:51 PM The Wilwood 6 Piston and 4 Piston calipers have two bleed screw each. I assume I would need to sets of Four for the Wilwoods?
Let me know.
Thanks OKD:D
OAKOS Automotive 06-27-2003, 10:21 AM I've heard somewhere that the extra bleeder screw on the calipers is so that the caliper can be mounted on either side of the car and still have a bleeder screw towards the top. When you bleed the Wilwood calipers do you need to open both bleeder screws to bleed the caliper properly or just the top? If you only need to bleed the top one then should be able to use one Speed Bleeder per caliper.
