Ok, I found this today.... it wasn't there sunday afternoon when I sprayed the mud off the car so I know I didn't brush against a tree or anything. Can anyone tell me what this looks like? Doesn't seem deep enough to be a keying. Seems a bit high for a car door. Also will just waxing it over with a good wax fix it or should I try and go more in-depth? I can't see any metal under there so I don't think it went through all the layers of paint. And yes, I know my car is dirty. I went through an insane amount of mud/clay on Sunday and sprayed it off at the car wash. Hand-washing it this weekend.

To me it looks like a kid on a bike scraped your car with the right side of his handle bar. Maybe the rubber grips were off or ripped at the end exposing the metal pipe. Any kids with bikes in the area??? Look at their handle bars with blue paint stuck inside of it. Just a guess though. Sorry bout the scratch.

ok to fix this you will need the following:
1 bottle touch up paint
1 roll masking tape
1 10 lb sledgehammer
1 5 lb sledgehammer
2 cups chicken broth
a pinch of salt
and a shot of vodka

step one find the person who did this
step two break their cellphone they were using when they did this (using 5 lb sledge)
step three using 10lb sledge smash their honda into lil bits
step four drink vodka
(repeat step four until police arrive( if arrested i didnt tell you to do this))

I don't think that just waxing will take care of that scratch, but I have founr the Mother's California Gold scratch remover works very well. If you have a scratch that bad, it will take you some time to buff it out by hand, but the scratch will be unnoticeably when you are finished. I had someone scratch my wing with some car keys, and that buffing compound took it out perfectly.

I've had a few of those... its hard to tell by the picture exactly how much damage it is. It will take you a long time to get that out by hand, I use a polisher/buffer to get it out. Don't use a straight drive polisher that will burn the paint. I have a Porter Cable 7424 polisher and if you use the right products, you won't burn or add any scratches to the paint. From my own experience I have to say that the machine polish from http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?L1=L1_1000&L2=L2_1004 works the best in getting the scratches out.

Did I see wax leftover on his door's handle and door protector?

Yep you did. Wax leftover on the plastic/vinyl trim. The car has a nice coat of grime on it from a 4 hour offroad trip on Sunday, I sprayed most of it off at the car wash but this weekend is when I go in and detail it.

I think that wax on the door handle has been there for a year or more, it only shows up when the car gets really dirty. I'm not even sure how it got on there, I'm usually pretty careful.

While were at it, any tips to get that wax off the trim? I believe it is Mother's Wax (the hard stuff in a tin, not the squirt bottle).

And where's the best place to get touch-up paint? From the subaru dealer?

A toothbrush will remove it and Armor all will make it look new, and protect it.

How about:
claim it on your insurance as comprehensive damage.

Comp is for anything that does not involve driving into something. That scratch looks like it angles up in a way that would be impossible to be caused by a "collision". A "bike scratch" would be comp.

Some bonehead at Home Depot dropped something on my front quarter panel last weekend. Big dent on the top of the fender, paint cracked.

$543.09 to remove dent and repaint. Cost to insurance, my cost is $0

Comp has covered (for me) a rock kicked up b a truck (*big* - *long* dent), (dried) cement stuck to the rocker panels (some puddles are not what they seem), stolen stereos, hail damage, tree (falling on car) damage, and several windshields (this is over several cars over the years). Best insurance "investment" I can think of, I seem to get money from them, more than the Comp has ever cost.

BTW, I pay $6 more a month to have $0 deductable comp., really worth it
