Hello,
I was shopping for a Tacoma/Rangerish type truck and saw a Baja on the lot. I'd never seen one before and was instantly hooked!
I've read reviews for a few days and if anything, everyone says it's underpowered. I'm thinking about getting a manual to make up for it but will miss some features of auto (remote start, easier in traffic, my trick knee, etc)

The auto would be nice, but do you think I need the manual? I currently drive a '96 F150 with an inline 6, 5 spd, 4x4. That's what my current taste of "performance" is. I heard of a rumor'd Baja-T, turbocharging, etc, all "coming soon" of course but I don't really feel like waiting for my Ford to fall apart. I will test drive one this weekend, that might help me decide.

Any other advice for a hopeful Baja owner? Is the 6 cyc version a myth?
BTW, since i forgot to look, where is the spare tire? :D

go for it man. i've had one since they first came out and i love it. i've got the five speed and the perfromance is ok. say goodbye to hauling and towing though. remember that the baja is just a wagon made for schlepping. the baja is also a much better drive than tacoma/ranger trucks your talking about...and the whole backseat area is alot smarter. good luck with what you decide!

Also have a Baja since Oct. Agree with above comments. Highly recommend the Baja. First vehicle I've ever owned with absolutely zero problems or defects!
5 speed is OK, but I wouldnt want to drive it in stop and go traffic everyday. Performance is adequate. Great ride and handling. Any automatic owners out there?

I've had my Baja since Feb and love it. I also have a 5sp. It rides great and I think it has plenty of power. But, then again, I'm used to driving smaller cars.

Go for it!! I ordered mine in Sept. and had to wait for it for two months! They didn't have a 5spd in yellow in the area.

Anyways it may not be as powerful as what you had but it gets you around! It is great for doing trips in when you need to take things with you and the back seat is roomy too for friends. I plan to take alot of camping trips this summer and it will be awesome.

anyways, you'll like it and if you want to wait, they will be coming out with the turbo charged ones and a lower end model without the leather if you don't like the leather!!

Good Luck:D

Left foot braking gives the opportunity for a little extra power and really makes the AT really fun to drive in the twisties.
