I got some gauges through a hook up but I need to get the oil pressure sensor. I was told to get a 1/8 BSP sensor, which I guess is really expensive (comparitively) or to get an adaptor and a less exensive size one. Can anyone give me some info to help me make a descision. And perhaps where to get the stuff.

You need to get the oil pressure sensor that is made for your new gauge. So, if your gauge is made by Autometer, you need to get an Autometer oil pressure sensor. If it's a VDO, then you need a VDO sensor.

You can get the sensors from Summitracing.com, or practically any place that sells the gauge.

You may need an adapter to convert from 1/8BSPT to 1/8NPT. But, that really depends on the sensor and manufacture.

I, again, agree with armand1. Don's Sport Vehicle Sales, which is egauges.com (http://www.egauges.com/index.htm) was good to me. Good prices and shipped quickly. I haven't installed mine yet, but it looks like with the adapter, the whole thing won't fit well under the alternator (where the current pressure switch is). I plan to put in the other port under the intercooler.

I'm showing my invoice below for reference. The sender I bought is a combination unit with a pressure switch built-in. I probably could've gotten a better deal on the adapter bushing, but I didn't want to go searching too far.

1/8"BSPT and 1/8"npt is close enough to thread together for the sender, just use teflon tape to seal and make sure you screw it down tight, just not HULK tight.;)

If oil weren't such a vital fluid for the car, I might try this, but why bother when you can easily get an adapter? Also, the happy VDO people recommend NOT using tape or sealant so as to make sure the sender gets properly grounded to the fitting.

The other thing is that the adapter is weak. I broke my autometer sending unit off of the block, leaving the threaded part in the block and the adapter on the sending unit. This happend when going over a speed bump in vegas, this made a big mess. I would remote mount it, with some steel braded lines.

FYI - Autometer has a 1/8" NPT to 1/8" BSPT adapter, part #2269 on their site.

if you ever take it apart after cross-threading npt and bspt, you'll see that some of the threads will get jagged and ruined, i've done it before. still useable but probably only to silicone gasket sealer only to make sure the seal is good.
