hey i just got my utec :disco: (<--me dancing) and i was wondering if anyone, dave:alien:, nick, had any tips for installing...on the TXS site they say 30 min = 35 hp...sounds right except that the manual that you HAVE to read or else you die or something is 42 pages long! since i cant read thats gonna take me awhile...anyways if anyone can give me some good info about it that would be great...thanks fellas...

install is easy...plug into ecu run switch line...hardest part is choosing the right map!

plug it in and select the map setting called "LUDICROUS SPEED!"

Glad you got it. Once you choose the general stage map you'll probably still need to tune the boost and fuel maps for your parts.

kapa I think thats right after the "I own your A$$" map :disco: ;)
No no no, it's right after the rediculous speed map Colonel Sanders.

anyone know how to tune a map? if so will you teach me because i really want to learn...i was takin logs tonight...im knocking like crazy...i know that i have to reduce timing but im not sure exactly how...i wanna know about closed and open loop boost...another thing is im runnning really really rich alot but i fixed it a little by turning down boost...well i just have a lot of questions to ask so if you can help that would be great...thanks

what were u running the boost at? i wouldn't run more then 16...and i think that's kinda pushing it for what u have on ur car...if ur running rich lean out the fuel numbers in the high rpm range...u should call or email txs and tell them what u have...they'll suggest a map and give u an idea on what to change...i think i mentioned this before...

What parts do you have? What kind of gas are you using? What boost are you running?
If you're getting alot of knock in a certain area, then you should try taking out a couple degrees of timing and adding some fuel in those areas.
Open Loop maps have boost values less than 100. Notice how the boost values start out high and then taper off which should be good for stock turbo.

ok well i turned down boost to 1 bar...so about 14 and a half...id like to run more but lower boost was fixing the knock problem...i want to run closed loop too...how do i do that...i dont have very many mods...just the turbo back from TXS so the stage 2 map from them SHOULD do it but im running on 92 octane from chevron and their maps are tuned on 93...you think next time i fill up i should add a bottle of octane booster? i would probably still need to change timing and fuel right?
winslow you said if im knocking that i should try taking out a couple degrees of timing and adding some fuel in those areas...how many degress 1, 2, 3? and where would i do that...just where im knocking?

I'd turn up the boost back to where you had it. Try to retard the timing 1 degree and add fuel in those areas that are knocking.
No, you don't need to add octane booster that's why you can adjust the fuel map.

One good approach to tuning with the UTEC is to do it in stages. First, get a good set of maps in open loop adjusted with whatever grade (octane) of gas you may have available. For example, if you have equivalent to TXS Stage 2 mods, start with the Stage 2 maps in open loop, where the UTEC only controls stuff above about 60% TPS. Adjust those UTEC open loop maps, often requiring less ignition advance, moderate boost, and adding fuel until there is no knock. That will give a reliable set of maps as a good "if all else fails" setting. Then, move on to closed loop tuning by downloading the closed loop software from TXS and developing a full set of maps for both closed and open loop conditions. There is lots of info on the NASIOC engine management forums, and also wrxhackers for guidance. Be sure to follow all the TXS UTEC instructions, especially with respect to setting TPS and MAP parameters. The UTEC control works so good that it is scary...

I think the latest version 2.5b is setup for closed loop and it's preloaded.
