View Full Version : Survey: How often do you wax? What brand do you use?
jay25RS 06-09-2001, 08:15 PM Hi all,
I was just wondering how often everyone waxes and what kind of wax they use (company). Also if it is a paste or liquid or whatever.
Thanx.
I use Mothers Gold, Carnuaba (sp?) cleaner wax in liquid form. I wax about every 1.5 - 2 months.
Zombie 06-09-2001, 08:23 PM every two to three mounths
zaino bros (http://www.zainobros.com) :D :D
ScoutWRX 06-09-2001, 09:23 PM Once a month, Maguire's (sp?) liquid wax.
b_tapper 06-09-2001, 09:32 PM Every couple of weeks with zymol :D
Brian
Raindance, once a month,
Why anyone buys anything more expensive is beyond me - this stuff is easy to apply, easy to remove, and lasts a long time. Plus the car looks incredible afterwards.

tcs007 06-09-2001, 10:04 PM Zymol once a month. That stuff rules. If you do a lot of driving in the country, and you get lots of bugs on your girl, they just melt off with a high pressure washer.
On another note, I just found another scratch on my car from a$$hole soccer mom's and their POSUV's.
I hope the government does force FORD to recall all those exploders. It would give me a grin.
BrysImpreza 06-10-2001, 12:24 AM Once a week, Nair....
Oh whoops, wrong wax!
Once a month, Finish 2001 (not bad, not great) Maguires or Mothers next week, gonna see which works better.
IMPRZME 06-10-2001, 04:37 AM about every two to three weeks...I use Maguire's paste wax. lovely goop, yes it it, makes a nice shine and a nice smooth texture :-)
RS-LOVER 06-10-2001, 04:56 AM I use the same, but I wax at least every month. :) Bling Bling. LOL
tmat3 06-10-2001, 06:00 AM every few months with RainX wax. I see people waxing every week or month, but I feel that it's a bit too much for me. But, it sure keeps the car look good.
e_a_olson 06-10-2001, 06:49 AM Go ahead and laugh; I use Turtle Wax.
/Eric
I had a old bottle of that rain X wax sitting around last week. I tried some on my RS and I was suprised at how well if worked.
Turk
Skylab 06-10-2001, 07:18 AM A good professional detailer's wax job will last about 4-6 mos in SoCal. I prefer to use Meguire's or Mother's Show N Shine spray polish to maintain the paint between details. It's good for removing bugs and grime off the paint too (no harsh chemicals).
exploringearth 06-10-2001, 08:00 AM For those of you that are anal retentive use a wax called Klasse All-In-One Polish and Sealant. It works wonders. It costs about $20 a bottle but the bottle will last a couple years. The wax lasts almost 6 months too.
Check out www.properautocare.com (http://www.properautocare.com) for all kinds of wax ideas.
Dre2932 06-10-2001, 11:39 PM I use Meguirs 3 step wax. I would say I wax my car about every 2 months. I don't really have the time to get it done as much as I want.
Mr.Preza 06-11-2001, 12:51 AM I worked for Long Island Detailing for 2 years. ZYMOL Natural Creme Wax, Once a month. I live by it. Great Shine, Ultra smooth, and actually smells great. Its fairly easy to take off and easy to see spots you missed.
Griots, great stuff. But I am curious about Zaino's, it seems to have almost a cult following.
How often, once every 4 to 6 weeks.
harrydog 06-11-2001, 05:45 AM 3 times a year. Sometimes 4.
I've been using either Pinnacle Carnauba or Meguires Medallion. Happy with both but recently switched to Griots Best of Show for no particular reason.
One thing I hate about the cheap waxes is that they leave the white residue in all the nooks and crannies and if you get it on the black vinyl or rubber trim it is very difficult to get off.
Folklorez 06-11-2001, 08:33 AM once a month. -meguire's
yebokmj 06-11-2001, 08:53 AM I use Simonize and do it about once a month in warm weather.

Subaru Salesman
Overtime 06-11-2001, 02:37 PM Normally I use 3M wax, but I just put a coat of Liquid Glass on the car.
It's nothing to write home about (other than its trademark ease of use,) but the rims...oh man, this stuff will make your rims look brand new. Seriously.
Personally, I think it's less the wax and more the application which determines how good your car looks...that's why a professionally detailed car is so difficult to match by a guy in his driveway.
GC8Monkey 06-11-2001, 03:28 PM Every month with Zymol. It smells so good you would want to eat it :D. All natural too with no chemicals. Once you use it, you never use anything else.
matts2.5rs 06-11-2001, 03:32 PM Once a month, Eagle One liquid wax. Very easy to take off. :)
WagonMonster 06-11-2001, 03:44 PM once a month, Maguiar's
But I wax the hood and front bumper every 2 weeks
Tuning Factory Inc. 06-11-2001, 03:52 PM In summer months when I have time every month, Zymol Japon. If no time or in winter I use 3M. I clay twice a year (Spring and Fall) and go through it with Zymol HD Cleanse after claying prior to waxing.

Conduit 06-11-2001, 03:57 PM What applicator and removal product and method do you guys use? My car is black, and I am incredibly anal about using anything on it that might cause little scratches. Ideas? I think I am up for a wax.
Scoo Bee 06-11-2001, 04:00 PM Every two to three weeks. Mothers Gold Carnauba Wax. Fairly Easy to use, looks good. Haven't seen anyhting else thats made me want to change.
Dori Dori 06-11-2001, 06:27 PM God's got the right idea!
Zymol HD Clean is the best cleaner/polish on the market. I live by it. Kind of expensive though. I use that about once every 6 mos. As for the wax, I perfer Pinnacle over the Zymol. It's 40% carnuaba (more than the lower line of zymol, which is about 30%) and doesn't stain the vinyl trim. I am VERY anal about my car's finish, so I wax once a week, but I've let it go for a month, and the water still beaded.
F.Y.I- Meguires and other 'professional' waxes only containe about 2-8% actual wax! They last less, but are a little more glossy. 'Professionals' use this for shows, but not for lasting protection. Do you car a favor and buy it a quality wax and polish, they are expensive, but really work. Zymol or Pinnacle are the best! :)
Scoo Bee 06-11-2001, 06:32 PM Ant,
When you say Zymol or Pinnacle are expensive, roughly how much are we talking here? Just because i've been fairly happy with Mothers doesn't mean I swear by it. I'd be interested to give either Zymol or Pinnacle a try.
Also, are they both readily available? To be honest I haven't looked for them and so don't really know if they are or not
vicster 06-12-2001, 01:33 AM meguiar's (liquid), every 4 to 6 weeks.
Dori Dori 06-12-2001, 06:26 AM You usually have to go to a specialty store. I have one near my house, but I found a store on the web that carries the pinnacle and the zymol (although it doesn't seem like they have the full zymol line). The pinnacle wax I use is called 'Pinnacle Paste Glaze' and costs $35.00. The 'Zymol HD Cleanse' costs $22.50. Be careful w/ this and all zymol products though. They require specific method of use. For instance, the HD must by applies using a terry cloth w/ hard pressure (by the time you finish your car, your triceps and chest will hurt so bad!) and only up and down or left and right motions. DO NOT apply this stuff in circles. Remove w/ light pressure in the same up/down, left/right motion w/ a terry cloth again. DO NOT use a machine either! This is the kind of reason why I don't use zymol, but the HD really works, its the only zymol product I'll buy.
If you want anymore specific help on anything detail related, Email me, I'll answer any questions if I can. Good Luck! :)
harrydog 06-12-2001, 10:30 AM One thing to remember about how often you need to wax is....it depends on various things. If you keep your car garaged, you will need to wax less often. If you live in a hot climate with intense sun, you need to wax more often. If you live in an area with an air pollution problem, you need to wax more often.
Some of the synthetic waxes will protect the finish longer than carnauba but usually don't look as good. And there is something more satisfying about using a high quality carnauba wax such as Pinnacle or Zymol.
My cars are always garaged and I've found that with the Pinnacle wax, it would easily last 3 months or longer. And it also smells great. I like the Pinnacle Bodyworks shampoo also. Works very well and is very gentle on the wax. I always have a strong desire for a Pina Colada after I use it.
:)
wrxnfx 06-12-2001, 12:32 PM Zymol Japon. Simply the best. At least twice a Season. Do not use a cleaner wax on a new vehicle [period].
"Good stuff aint cheap and cheap stuff aint good." :p
Jessie James 06-12-2001, 02:07 PM Consumer reports rated Zymoil the tops, so I use it every 6 months or so.
And they sell it at Target. $12 a bottle.
ImprezedRS 06-12-2001, 02:23 PM I wax my car about once ever 2 months, using this stuff by Car Brite called Lazer Brite first which is a incredible polish and then Butter Wax which brings out a brilliant shine. I use FastWax (http://www.fastwax.com) ever other washing to keep it shiney. Take a look for your self.

Dori Dori 06-12-2001, 08:25 PM Hey RS25.com, the zymol wax you are using is different than the paste waxes we are talking about. The carnuaba percentage is very low in that particular wax, same w/ all liquid waxes. Try the real stuff, you'll be suprised how much better it really is ;)
bongo 06-12-2001, 09:29 PM For the above question about application of wax or sealant, go to www.properautocare.com (http://www.properautocare.com) and buy their microfibre applicators. they work great. while you're at it buy yourself 4 of those microfibre towels. they absolutely rock.
Oh yeah, and i second the above suggestion for Klasse all-in-one cause its easy to use and it lasts a long time.
Mr. Ixnay 06-12-2001, 09:57 PM once a month - Mother's Carnuba Cleaner Wax
jerome02rs 06-13-2001, 09:11 AM I use P21S wax /paint cleanser/ shampoo. I Use 3M show car hand glaze for fine scratches. Use Blitz wax if your car is parked outside on a daily basis. Use a carnuba wax if your car is a garage queen. Don't ever use anthing other than 100% cotton cloths when buffing and apply the wax with your bare fingers. It takes forvever but the finish is worth it!
The absolute best source I've found is Carcare Specialties. http://www.carcarespecialties.com
EddyRS 06-13-2001, 09:47 AM Every other week (What do you expect with the BRP color).
I use Maguires swirl/scratch remover, then Mothers liquid paste wax.
Probably have the cleanest car in the country (that is a daily driver) The bay area guys can vouch for me :D
Cheers
EddyL.
