This looks like a great vehicle for acreage dwellers/hobby farmers. Anybody tried loading hay into it, :p , or is only used by kayakers, skiiers etc?

no hay bales yet, but I did fit my two huge recycling cannisters in the bed Saturday (about a month of cans, bottles etc). They fit all snug, you don't even need the bed extender. There was still room for another box, then I folded down the seats and everything else went inside. It's great!

I look forward to further disproving reviews painting Baja as "useless"... just because you are moving something doesn't automatically mean you need 1000 lbs capacity. If it does, you are rollin' the wrong wheels

I dug this old thread up only because I'm routinely carrying 20 bales of pine straw in my Baj.

Are you actually stacking them in the bed and on the tailgate? That's quite a load on the rear suspension, unless they're pretty lightweight bales. I've only had six hay bales (~300 lbs) in the bed of the Baja, but regularly tow twenty bales on a 5x8 trailer with a couple thrown in the back of the Baja for good measure. The bales are right around 15 lbs each x 20 = 300lbs pounds.

I stack them on end, going right out onto the tailgate, and using the bed extender, like so:

Yeah, it's definitely not a problem carrying the load... I can remember back to one of my "handy" trucks where I loaded the bed with concrete. I would never begin to do something so stupid to my Baja.

All the things I've carried are fairly light but awkwardly large:

a fridge
a washer and dryer
a 7' rooster yard scupture
a new IKEA living room bar
a set of six dining room chairs
a group of bushes for planting
many, many loads of pinestraw (20 bales)
And the usual ladders, etc.
My wife and I haul our two bikes REGULARLY... piece of cake.
