I have never heard of anyone putting a small block chevy in a subaru, doubut it would fit, but anything is possible if you have a enough money. I did read somewhere about a rock crawler buggie, with 2.2L subaru engine mated to a powerglide trannie. Closest I have ever come to, a GM/Subaru hybrid ;) Jay Subie Gal 04-08-2003, 07:11 PM lots of dune buggy types use subaru engines... that's been occurring for quite sometime now... :) Jamie munkis 04-09-2003, 12:26 AM of course, they are torque monstors, and you need that for dune buggies and rock crawling :D this was the first time I saw one mated to a 2 speed powerglide, circa late 70s gm trannie, that went the way of the dodo. popule with drag racers. I was afraid that if I put "Small block V8 subaru?" in the title, than the group that doesn't care for domestics would just come in and tell me that I defacing the car or something like that. Subie Gal 04-09-2003, 02:22 PM edited thread to keep it from heading to dead thread heaven Jamie ITWRX4ME 04-11-2003, 01:11 PM If people can fit small blocks into Volvos and Datsun 510s I'd imagine that it could be done in a Subie. The problem I see right off the bat is the height and length of the engine; twice as long front to rear. The Subie tranny sits more forward than most trannies, doesn't it? You'd have to either be willing to give up the AWD or do some pretty fancy drivetrain work. Give Renegade Hybrids a shout. Maybe they'll have some ideas. http://www.renegadehybrids.com Kostamojen 04-12-2003, 02:49 AM It could probably be done, but I doubt if would work with the drivetrain... Why are you asking this anyway? If you want more cylinders, it would be easier to try one of Subaru's H6 engines. John*G 04-12-2003, 01:20 PM Hi: I've done a few engine swaps like 327 VW's, 215 V8 Olds MG Midgets If you have a good shop and can fabricate, the easy way in the long run would be build a frame. Maybe use a premade roll cage from one of the venders as a base, weld it to some square tube. Make up a double wishbone coil over front suspension. Lots of premade stuff around, Modifieds/ Formula / nascar etc. Find a good rear, solid would be easiest. Take the "skin" of the car hang it over the frame. Custom pan/ firewall, and almost everythig else. The problem would be the drivers position, it would have to be somewhere where the back seat is now. Or a more interesting setup, mid engine with an independent rear. Narrowed Vet or a Jag could work. Put a fuel cell up front and pipe up the radiator to the front. Driver would be in almost the same spot. For the kind of money this project would cost I would get something like a Shelby kit car though . Plus it would be worth something when it was done. After all that the Subaru engine properly Turbo'd puts out great power, the process is also well documented, and reasonable. John limestoner 04-29-2003, 01:18 AM not quite what you're looking for, but my cousin dropped a 350 into a nissan 240sx... he said that it didn't take much effort. flegg 05-02-2003, 08:18 AM What I want to know is if the Sti 6spd can mate up to the H6 subaru motor? I think a nice future swap would be to mate that motor in my WRX, do some internal work and then get some kind of fabricated twin turbo system.... Then I can have my own Skyline Subie.... Thinks this one would be possible one day?? Kostamojen 05-03-2003, 03:33 AM Originally posted by flegg What I want to know is if the Sti 6spd can mate up to the H6 subaru motor? No. It was discussed before, aparently the bolt pattern is different or something... rhdude 05-03-2003, 05:22 PM the H6 is not a high horsepower motor, something about the intake runners I think.. otherwise a few people would of already done it ;) |
