Just sort of starting a place-holder thread in here for the work I'm doing to put a Legacy Turbo 5MT transmission into a 4EAT WRX.
Current plan:
Gearbox/flywheel/pressure plate/shifter/linkage - stock Legacy Turbo
Rear diff - ring/pinion swap from 3.9 open into current 4.11 LSD
Pedal box - WRX salvage
Clutch master cylinder - WRX salvage
Propshaft - WRX salvage
ECU - unknown if it needs replacement or just modification
Starter - Legacy Turbo salvage
Crossmember - unknown .. where should this come from?

one thing, Andrew. the tranny you're going to be installing has a mechanical speed sensor, and your old one has an electronic one. may want to look into this since it could be trouble down the line.

also the starter is differnt
are you shure you want to put an OLD tranny in to a new car

the legacy turbo 5MT is much better than the 2001 RS 5MT. it was made to take a little power, whereas the RS tranny was meant for a 80 hp car. the only better one to get would have been the WRX 5MT, but I don't think he could have gotten it for the same price :D .

The WRX transmission is also a bastard child, with a 3.9 front final, 3.45 rear final, and 1.1 center, instead the Legacy Turbo tranny is 3.9 all around, which sets me up for a STi 6MT swap in the future.
Similarly, the Legacy Turbo gears are all shot-peened, and the case is actually thicker than the WRX transmission. While heavier, this should minimize the case flex that tends to yield gear misalignment and broken teeth.
Putting the stock Legacy flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate in is probably a stupid idea, but it's cheap, and I'll just take it easy on it until I figure out what I want to do later on.
I just got a speeding ticket for ... well, a lot of money. A few hundred dollars. So my budget is only getting smaller.

Did the legacy turbo have hill holder?

I don't know, but probably. What problems do you think that might introduce?

hill holder ..
... is independant of the tranny

True its not internal, the clutch cable attachment bracket is different.
