I'm working on the pics, they should be up soon. I'll see what I can do for sound files. The last time I tried to get the mic working on my laptop I was unsuccessful.

sweet.. what kind of sounds does the recirculating one make?

OAKOS Automotive
04-18-2003, 04:09 PM
I just got them yesterday so I haven't had a chance to play with them yet. :D
Considering that, just like the stock BOV, it doesn't vent to atmosphere I'd figure it is somewhat similar to stock, probably pretty mild.

hey david, im very interested, but i have a question. i've gone through many BOVs and the only on that did not flutter while shifting normally at partial boost was the HKS. i got fed up with the other ones i used that fluttered every time i let off the gas while normal driving. does this do that as well, or is it a real, full "swoosh" sound 100% of the time?

04-18-2003, 06:25 PM
bump for a great vendor :)

i'd be interested in hearing how the vented one sounds like; might sell my blitz and get this one

OAKOS Automotive
04-18-2003, 06:33 PM
iloveturbos, I'm honestly not sure. I don't have any first hand experience (yet) with these BOV's. You might be better off sticking with the HKS until I get some first hand experience with these.

300ZX6R, Thanks! :) I'll see what I can do on those sound clips.

Any of the sound clips?? Also are there any side effect of venting to atmosphere vs recirc??

OAKOS Automotive
04-23-2003, 04:31 PM
Still no sound clips. The laptop that I am trying to get the mic working on has definitely seen better days. :) I will see if I can borrow a laptop or find an alternative method to record the sound.

Venting to atmosphere will have an affect on the car. What happens is that the MAF sensor (the sensor mounted in the air filter box) measures the amount of air entering the engine, when the BOV vents some of this "metered" air to the atmosphere the ECU doesn't know to compensate for the lost air and it can result in a rich condition momentarily. Of course, venting to atmosphere is what creates the loud "Pssst" sound that some people are looking for.

I prefer and would recommend the recirculating BOV for anyone in need of a BOV that is capable of flowing more air than the stock valve and isn't changing the BOV mainly for the sound.

If any of this isn't clear or you have any other questions please feel free to ask. :)

-Dave

F22-Raptor
04-23-2003, 04:55 PM
Well causing a rich condition for a second shouldn't hurt anthing correct? I would like to get the sound but not at the expense of my engine. I dont really have more air I am flowing..yet. Just looking for the sound.

Bump...

Great vendor

OAKOS Automotive
04-23-2003, 05:33 PM
F22, Most people running aftermarket BOV's are venting them to the atmosphere. Engine reliability should not be sacrificed at all.

modvp, Thanks! :D

I've got a Forge Atmospheric and love it.

Don't let anyone tell you it will hurt your engine. I've had it on for about 20,000km and its seen all conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, salt..). I autoX alot too, so its gets a workout probably blowing off 10-15 times per run.

It was easy to install, and its easy to service. I take it apart to clean it every 3 months or so. Its very simply designed.

I have a 15sec video clip (~5Mb) but no way to host or email it. If anyone has an FTP I can load it to I can post it.

Pete, Thanks a lot for your input. I PM'ed you about hosting that video file. :)

Schleppy, I am not sure if the recirculating BOV is louder than the stock piece or not. Maybe jehcpa will be nice enough to give us some feed back once he gets his BOV installed. :D

jehcpa, Thanks a lot for your order! Your BOV will be shipped out later today. I will send you a shipment confirmation email and tracking number after it goes out. :)

I got it for improved BOV performance given the other mods I have lined up - but will be glad to post information on any rice attributes. :) I have never even heard the stock one so if I hear this one it will by definition be louder.

I just called Forge and they said that the recirculating valve is definately louder than stock, just not as loud as the atmosphere one...

I just ordered the Recirc :-)

Thanks for an awesome price!!

Do you have the replacement (different strength) spring kits for the Forge 100% atmos valves? I have one and it has always fluttered when it vents at partial boost. No problem if you are running an MBC that gives full boost at part throttle but I have gone back to stock boost control and I almost never hear it vent now (I have an auto trans so it vents much less frequently than a manual anyway).

Dale

OAKOS Automotive

Dale,
I talked to Forge about getting extra springs. I should be getting a few extra sets with the next order but that probably isn't for a few weeks yet. If you need the spring soon you may want to try contacting Forge directly, their phone number is: 321.689.0982.

Dang exchange rates - this weak dollar is going to break importer modders' bank accounts!

At any price the recirculating is the way to go and Oakos delivers!

I apologize for not returning with feedback sooner.

The recirculating looks and sounds great!

Hate to put in the but... but truth in advertising - it is larger than stock so on some aftermarket IC's like my Vishnu it may be a tight fit. It does fit but it does also rest on the intake - there have been no adverse effects to the BOV or other components.

It is a slight possibility that with some other over-sized IC's that it will not fit if the IC was only spec'd to make sure the stock valve fits. Practice due diligence.

I listened to this clip. You did not mention whether this was recirculating or atmospheric. I figure it is an atmospheric one, is this correct? Thanks.

Schleppy or anyone else with the recirc bov.

How loud is it compared to the audio clip of the atmosphere version? Would you say it is just like stock?

Also how much psi can these handle?

OAKOS Automotive
08-21-2003, 12:47 PM
Fajaah, Sorry, I don't have any sound clips of the recirc BOV yet. There is a video and a sound clip of the atmo valve further up in this thread.

Schleppy, Thanks a lot for the compliment!! :D

dust12, I don't have any first hand experience with the recirc BOV but all the feedback that I have gotten is that it is louder than the stock valve but not as loud as an atmo valve. These valves can handle more PSI than your engine can. :)

-Dave

dust12
08-21-2003, 01:08 PM
Thanks Dave - good to know about the PSI because I'm thinking of upgrading to a turbo that can handle more then 20 psi which is the the limit of the stock bov.

OAKOS Automotive
