this makes a huge difference in the way they look, I bought an un-painted version and had it specially painted that way. wish I would have know that there was a vendor that paid attention to that much detail........

They are genuine STi Hood Scoops - guaranteed. None of the STi Hood Scoops come painted from the factory. The replica hood scoops normally do not have the vertical fins.

You maybe thinking about the STi Grills. The real ones come painted from the factory. The replicas still need to be.

It arrived today. Wow - the painted scoop looks great! I am afraid to install it on the car - might have to have a case made for it. Thanks for the quick turnaround and the great price you are offering on these painted authentic scoops.

Oh and relative to replicas - I like the bracers - makes it easier to screen the intake off from debris and fingers. Replicas should include the bracers.

They said it will leave a gap because the WRX scoop duct assy is smaller than the STi scoop and duct. I also bought the GT Spec splitter but the duct I'm worried about. Or will the GT-Spec solve this 'gap' problem? I received your STi scoop a week ago but havent installed yet because of the aforementioned issue.

That thread is misleading and confusing. Here's what they are trying to say: The scoop and metal plate below it are separate. They say it is a bad idea to use the STi plate with the stock intercooler because of the aforementioned reason. I don't buy into it, but if you do, more power to you. Do not use the stock plate/plastic duct with an STi intercooler, simply because it isn't big enough. STi scoop on either is good to go.

RiftsWRX: We have one MPB STi Hood Scoop left. We stand by our product. There should not be any issue with our paint. If within 6 months the paint warps, peels or fades, we could repaint it for a the cost of shipping - about $5-$7. Just a disclaimer that rock chips, scratches or other similar types of damages would not be covered.

Thanks for the quick service and good paint match. I did however find a pit and two bits of lint embedded in the paint, but on my sandblasted, rock chipped beauty they don't look out of place at all. I can live with the imperfections, I'm due for a paint job and Stongard anyway. I'm just happy that the color matched as well as it did. I saw a pre-painted scoop from another vendor that didn't even come close to matching a guy's WRB.

I'm sure it's a pretty rare lapse, I'm not bothered by it at all. As I mentioned, I'm impressed that the color matches as well as it does considering I have a 2 year old car that was re-sprayed once.. I'll contact you for sure if I ever get around to wet sanding the scoop, but as I'm not too concerned with it and the imperfections are small and out of the way for the most part, my lazy ass will probably let it slide.

Hi C Dust,
The WRB will be ready by end of next week. If you would like one, I would suggest that you order now since only 3 is left from the batch that will be complete next week.

Shipping to NJ is normally 4-5 business days. The scoop is a direct replacement. You just need to reuse the nuts from the original HS. As for the splitter - it is not necessary. I believe the flow characteristics are better with the splitters but plenty of folks run the STi HS without the splitters and performance is fine. I don't think anyone has any empirical data on the affects of an after market/type RA splitter on intercooler in/out temps. So my opinion - not necessary.

You were right in that they are by no means necessary for the scoop to function.

Your right Subaru dosn't make a Sonic yellow STi Grill.

I have the whole OEM optional ground effect kit from Subaru which was only offered in Black white and silver. It's nice making my yellow car differnt from the other 449 03 yellows :0

Sorry we weren't able to get any done by end of July. We have a much bigger batch of HS's at the painters this time and will definitely be painting Sonic Yellows - 5 to be exact. They should be available end of next week.

On another note, we just completed a batch of Midnight Pearl Black STi HS. Plenty in stock ready to ship.

03WRXMA & Brian Broz - We have a few Sonic Yellow left. They will be available Tuesday because we sent them to color sanded. Brian, we don't plan on painting the STi front grills. They come painted from the factory (not in Sonic Yellow) and too much prep work would be needed to change the color to Sonic Yellow - meaning it would be very pricey.

jcdeng - sorry no Aspen white at this time.

do they come with new rubber seals to seal to intercooler or do you keep your existing?

how do they fit with the vishnu intercooler?

The STi Hood Scoops do not come with splitters or the ducting. They can work with any intercooler and splitter. On the other hand, the stock hood scoop do not work with the STi Splitters.

The choice of whether to purchase a STi splitter is really more of a function of whether you have an aftermarket or stock intercooler. With a Vishnu Intercooler - and you should contact Brett over @ Vishnu to verify - but you should definitely have an STi splitter. I'm sure other aftermarket splitter may do, but we know for certain that the STi splitter is a good fit for the Vishnu Intercooler. BTW, the STi Splitter comes with the rubber seals that match up to the larger intercooler.
