are holding debating on modding your cars, or trading in/selling and buying 04 sti or 04 wrx?

now that i know the new sti is going to be no more than 32000 with tax from my local dealer....im starting to debate what is better....mod what i have...or save the mod money and buy an sti in another year or so?

I am going to hold out untill I drive one... but untill I decide the WRX stays stock.

Actually if the STI is as great as I hope getting it will be cheaper then modding my WRX & getting a toy for the summer which is the current plan.

I bought my '02 WRX for just around $24K. If the STi is gonna be around $32K, think about how much I can do for the $8K difference. I've already spent around $2K on mods, and already make over 300hp at the crank (just like the STi) so, as you say, "screw the STi"!

but since i havent even spent $1000
I think it might be better for me to enjoy the warranty of a new sti...with larger brakes...hid's...more power etc..
rather than investing that kind of money into this one....
anyone have an extra radio? lol

To bring a WRX up to equal the STI would cost far more then the STi. It isn't just peak HP, but how it is delivered, how drivable the engine is, and how long will it last. Then add in new suspension, the 6 speed box, the big brakes, LSD front and rear, and the DCCD.... A modded WRX is a great car... but it is not the same as an STi

While I love my WRX, I love the STi too. But I don't see any point in getting one. I'm still learning to fully control my WRX and modding is a blast (but so damn expensive). Down the road, I would love to own one. Or maybe a turbo'd legacy.;)

I've long finished modding my WRX wagon, and love the car.

There's no way I would drive an STi. It just doesn't suit my needs, functionally, profile-wise or as regards comfort. I think that people are understimating what a hard-edged car the STi is.

My money for my next Subaru will almost certainly go to a Forester XT. It has the same motor as the STi, and the same variable valve technology. I'm betting that with a VF30 and intercooler from an STi (the XT uses a smaller turbo/IC combo), that car would be pretty insane. Add the STi Forester suspension setup, and off you go, with a great handling, 270 or so-hp Forester.

The new Legacy is also promising.

I like the idea of making my WRX my statement with the different appearence mods and engine mods BUT.... that warranty issue keeps raising it's ugly head. The STI is covered by it's warranty and the WRX isn't. It a darn shame that they don't even warranty Prodrive parts.

With under 20,000 miles the WRX has been a fun scoot. But, I'll gladly trade up to the WRX STi suffer with the more harsh ride for all of the goddies it offers in performance/handling. For the bucks there isn't anything I'd rather have.
As far as modding the WRX the issue breaking the warranty has been beaten to death. (Heck, it's *your* car!) The WRX as stock is still a great car however. It's that after reading so many articles about the STi over the years coming from other countries always made me drool over a car that could never (until soon) be had in North America!
It's meat & potatos in a soy world.

I'll hang onto my WRX and learn to drive it to its potential. In a couple years (maybe when they redesign in 2006) I'll start looking at the STI. It just doesn't make sense to me to get rid of a car that I have not even had for a year yet. I do think the STI is an awesome car for the money though, and it is really making me think twice about all the stuff I was going to do to my car.
