Does anyone know if there is some sort of factory roof rack system for the Sedan, ala the wagon?
I really don't like the idea of large mounting pads on the roof, like Thule and Yakima, and I need to transport a couple of mountain bikes. Something that mounts inside the of the roof "gutters/grooves" would be perfect.

If you lived in central IN, we could try and modify some wagon rails for a sedan.
I have two complete sets in my attic. Total value = $0
If you could shorten the rails, I think they would fit. That is if the curve of the rooflines are similar.
The idea is still just in my head.

I would suggest going with a Yakima system. It is very, very stable. It also goes on and off in about 10 seconds, so just put it on when you need it. If you are sure to clean your roof and pads before you put them down you won't have any scratching problems. I have been using and selling these systems for many years and they are hands down the best way to go. Also if you change vehicles in a few years, just buy new clips and your money spent doesn't go down the drain. Good Luck

If there is a European Subaru rack for the sedan, then does anyone know where I can get one or info on it?
I have seen the Rola which looks like it may work.

I looks like the Rola, it is. Out of curosity, and desire to know what is really going on I poped out the rain diverters, and look what I found! :

The two black objects in the gutter are mounting points, and they are spaced about 28 1/2 inches from each other

And here is a close up:

Looks like the Rola is the only rack that I found that utilizes these mounting points. I was looking in the shop manual regarding using wagon rails, but it turns out they are attached with bolts that go through the roof, which I do not want to drill.
But still if anyone know of where I can get some info on any EDM rack frlom Subaru let me know.

Any others utilizing the gutter attachment. It seems like a good idea... smoke 'em if you got 'em...
I've had a Yakima before and it left little scuff marks and depressions so I'm leary the second time around. If the car is set up for a rack already why not take advantage?
The other system that attaches to "the two black objects in the gutter" is MontBlanc, but AFAIK for gen. 2 they only make the OE Euro rack people are familiar with. For gen. 1, they have an aftermarket set-up under their own name. Rola uses hooks that attach to the mounts in the channels but I understand its feet still rest on the sheetmetal, like the conventional racks.
Add: It seems on a wagon, the rack mounts (anchors) are bolted to the car through the same holes as the roof rails would be.
