Could you tell me how much lower than the stock bumper this lip sits?

I had a greddy lip I couldn't use becasue it would scrape so I don't want to be in the same boat with this one.

Thanks.

Hey there guys, the car that you see there is my, so if any one have any question about the product, feel free to pm or e-mail me ok, my e-mail is joewc34@aol.com. Just to answer some quesiton for you guys first.

DubuRX- The whole lip is painted to color match the car and the middle section is carbon fiber it is very clean

saggioWRX - The lip is exactly like in the picture, but something else might come up later.

WR xplosive - unfortunately, i haven't hear anything about it yet

Kwyjibo - the lip hang down a bit low actually, it about 2 to 2 1/2 in lower than the stock bumper, so just becareful especially if your car is lower.

Hopefully this has answer some question for you guys.

Edit: Just re-read the post, paying in full prior to ordering. OE - I would recommend you run a list of the people that are interested and collect funds from these people once the group buy closes. You can put me on the list - I've been waiting for something like this to come along forever.

Ditto. That seems stupid expensive. I can STi lips from Japan with S&H cheaper than that... Its a nice lip but I'll never pay that for someone to deliver something. Can you double check the price please and thanks. ;) JC

Leonardo
04-27-2003, 12:42 AM
I hope I'm wrong but the price is due to the size of the box as the STi Ver 2 lip is easier to ship because it SPLITS in half as oposed to this unit, PLUS they have to add good packaging so it won't breake in half while shipping.

Leo:confused:

DragII - I talk to Jerry at O. E. tuning and he told me that the payment will be as the following, 50% non-refundable at the end of GB and then the other half right before delivery.

digitaltekniq - will make a list soon and if there is enough of an intrest there will be a group buy for the hood, and trunk as well.

Leonardo - I have to ask Jerry first, because he deals with all of that stuff

Oo DaRk StAr oO - it stated in first post that you will be able to do local pickup and there is a local delivery as well, but within a 25 mile radius for 50 bucks i think

thejean - will recheck the price for sure

asnrefugee - carbon fiber is a lot stronger that the oem abs stuff because it is able to flex more and lite weight. For more detail go to the website to get a full explaination.

Tyrannosarus Rex - well it depends how low is your car, because that lip is really not that low, but you just have to be really carefully thou.

Hopefully this has answer some of you question.

And yes, I'm in for the lip.

Leo

Impreza2fast

asnrefugee - as far as the trunk goes, he is planning to sell it in a group buy. The trunk is really nice, it is keyless and weight only 9lbs. The fitment is great it is like the monster sport trunk. I have some pic but they are not that great but i can send it to you guys if you really want to see it. For the wing he is planning to sell that as well, but i'm not too sure how much, but i know for sure it is going to be very competitive price.

The is was in the first post = Note* O.E. Tuning 9lb CF WRX Trunks will be offered for GROUP BUY if interested. Price around $550 + shipping.

lgkahn - I will go fine out if the lip can be painted in the sedona red ok.

Leonardo - The trunk has no key hole, weights 9lbs, fitment is great and good quality. Honestly i'm not too sure if it would be able to handle the downforce of the wing, because we never tried it, but as they told me that they would not recommended it.

If you guys have any more question, feel free to as ok.

Leo:confused:

Yes this lip does not split in half like the STi V2 lip which is much easier to ship. On top of that, a custom box had to be custom designed and produce just for this lip.

Stock trunk weighs about 20-30lbs est. Our CF trunk weighs around 9lbs which can be lifted with one finger easily.

Yes, this is factory matched paint.

* O.E. Tuning color matches 100% to factory color, but perfect paint match is impossible since everyone's driving habits, road and weather conditions differ from place to place, those vehicles exposed to a lot of extreme weather conditions might experience more paint fade then inner city vehicles.

Please let me know how many people are interested for a
11.5lb Carbon Fiber 2pc hood w/ STi raised CF scoop or
9lb Carbon Fiber trunk key-less trunk.

again please visit our website for complete details (www.oetuning.com)

Thanks.

Don't take this the wrong way, but that's not answering 03WRXMA's question. ;)

I think the question is, are you offering these painted in every factory Subaru WRX color -- not just the usual blue, silver, etc, but also the less-common colors like Sedona Red, or Sonic Yellow? If the answer is yes to Sonic Yellow, at the same price, I may be interested...

Hello Dave,

No problem. Other colors would be offered if there is enough demand for it ( at least 5 lips ordered in the sedona red or sonic yellow ) , if not there will be a slight increase in price for a specific color. To keep our products at an competitive price we can only offer so many variations of the color.

As stated before, please find out shipping to Puerto Rico (00979) and about the hoods, any chance of doing something like the Kaminari or even something WITHOUT a hood scoop? How about one like the OEM but with the Aqua reverse scoop molded in?

I ask this because I have a FMIC and I know the croud with them is growing. And also, do your IS300/Altezza hood (the first one on the list) really require hood pins? Wouldn't like to ruin the looks of the car with them unless it's really required.

To protect the interest of the group buy and close in on pricing, Non-refundable was just to protect the users and buyers. We meant non-refundable as in you cannot change your mind once you make payment, cancel the group buy, sold the car, mom can't give me the money, wife won't allow it etc. :)

If we cannot guarantee our product and production, a group buy would never have been offered. If we cannot deliver the goods, of course it will be refundable.

This is a 2pc hood ultra light weight hood, made and designed in Japanand will fit USDM spec cars. Hoods fits perfect on our USDM prototype car. Aluminum latch, stock mounting positions, pre-drilled nozzles, please visit our website for more details (www.oetuning.com)

i didnt read thru the whole post, but from what i understand is that it comes half painted. can i get it non painted and just clear coated?

The edges around the vents of the lip is produced with a new NPFP type of durable polyurethane mix with fiberglass and O.E. Tuning's 6k HS carbon fiber. This paticular new material was chosen because of the vent designs in O.E. Tuning's Limited 2 Front lips. If you want one just clear coated it will be flat black, with 6kHS carbon fiber.

I'm not sure if this has be asked already but i just have question on CF lips in general. Since the lips are installed on the front where it will most likely take a lot of abuse, how durable is the lip?As in, if i get it scraped or curbed, can it be repaired and re-painted easily?

We use PPG Clearcoat one the finish of the lip which is very durable. Our prototype car has been through some rough very hard driving and curb checking, lip still holds up like new, like any real PPG Clearcoat parts, scracthes can be easily fixed with some rubbing combound.

I have a Sonic Yellow too, and was (still am?) interested in this (I posted earlier too.) I think the CF center section would contrast VERY nicely against the yellow.

The thing is, I am torn between this lip and the MRO lip that autoartech.com is offering (see thread in Vendor - For Sale). If this lip is the same dimensions as the STi v2, I am really concerned about scraping. (I have Prodrive springs which drop the front aout 1.5") However, the strength of carbon fiber helps. On the other hand, the MRO lip looks very nice too (a unique design, not a replica of anything), the drop is a more modest 30mm (about 1.5"?), is cheaper, but is made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic.

Decisions decisions...

For the past few months i had the lip on my car and all i can say is that it does scap, but if you are careful you shouldn't have any problem at all. The lip is very strong, it held up very good to all the different type of driving i put it through. Just to let you guys know my car is on 18in and drop with MRT springs. Another thing is that the lip drop about 1.5in i think not too sure, but it looks really good trust me. Honestly if you really want the lip it shouldn't be an issue, because it is underside anyways and no one can see it. Trust me in the beginning it really hurt everytime i scap it, but after awhile there is nothing you can do, but say "oh well". All i can say is the lip is very strong and you shouldn't have any problem.

I'm curious now...how much of this lip is actually carbon fiber? Is it just the exposed center section that is CF, and the rest is this polyurethane mix with fiberglass ? Or is it mostly carbon fiber? What percentage?

A real STi V2 lip goes for about at least $465 painted, but remember it is a 2-piece design (there is a seam running down the middle), and is polyurethane (prone to warping) as opposed to CF.

the installation of the lip is very simply, all you need to do is get the double sided tape ready and put it in it proper place and then you are done. After that all you have is a nicer looking car.

hope that will help

I had double sided tape holding up my old side mouldings on my VW for a year and a half. As long as you use the good 3M double sided tape and clean the surfaces you're applying it to, you'll be AOK...

Impreza2fast

After apply the double sided tape on your car, make sure not to was your car for a day or so, making sure that it has time for the tape to be hold in place, other than that you shouldn't have any problem at all.

I really want to get my hands on one but NO ONE cares to answer any of my emails, especially Fiber Image... VERY disappointed. I know there is ALOT of US GC guys who want a trunk..

SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS SAY???

If there are enough demands for the item, this will be possible for production., However there were over 20 people interested in this CF lip and we only ended up with 10 people. When enough interest is generated, please send an email via O.E. Tuning's website ( www.oetuning.com )

Just in case you don't get the comments I left, I would like the V2 lip in silver (Platinum Silver Metallic), in that cool half painted style on the main page (I'm assuming that's how you paint them anyway). Thanks a lot, I look foward to recieving the lip!!

Also, the lip will be made in the upgraded carbon fiber correct? Thanks!

-Sean

Yes the lip will be produced with O.E. Tuning's 6k HS carbon fiber ( upgraded from standard 3K MS )

Also, OE Tuning, please make sure my yellow is the '03 Sonic Yellow, not the '02 Blaze Yellow. I have included the paint code in my order comments.

Furthermore, you state above that shipping is expected to commence mid-June, but in the first post you state that it will commence mid-July. Which is it?

We will personally call for the remaining balance.

Sorry for the typo. As stated in the initial page of the Group Buy

Delivery
- Shipment of cf lips expected to arrive 5-6 weeks after end date (approximately mid July 2003) and delivery will commence thereafter

Mid July, not June. I apologize for the typo.

However we are trying our best to make sure everyone gets their correct color codes and and production have started already.

O.E. Tuning Eek... I am counting on it being here in time for me to install it prior to July 19th!! (Hot Import Nights) not too worried though, you posted here once that there would be no problem meeting that deadline..

Why such a long delay? It seems kind of long, even for custom stuff?

Hello,

There is no delay. As the intial terms of this group buy was for delivery for mid-July ( please refer to page one ) . Typing mid-June was a typo.

Different colors does make production time longer as different color pieces need to be color coded and painted individually, instead of painting 5 lips in silver at one particular time.

As stated earlier, production has begun and we should be able to ship the items earlier. :)

Thanks again.

O.E. Tuning No, No sorry.... I didn't mean there was a delay from your original stated time frame! I ment why is it taking so long to begin with? It just seemed like kind of a long time to get the lip, even as a custom piece.

End date of June 8th then 5-6 weeks for production then delivery, so in reality we are looking at a wait of 7+ weeks or so from payment to receving the part...

That's a pretty long wait know what I mean? Just wondering if they are imported or if they are all built on demand or what the scoop is on the long process? hehe Sorry I am just nosey (and maybe a little impatient ;) )

I am not too worried because of this:

There has been a little suprise at the door for some selected colors. ;)

Blue & silver lips will be dispatched within a week or two from today.

We will try to post some kind of installation instructions, but it is a very straight forward installation with double sided tape and 2 pre-molded screw holes to fit the factory screws in the fender.

HiFiWRX you should be able to receive the order in time for your show. To ensure prompt delivery, we will make a note of it on your order. As to your other question, we will not be able to support your event as we are scheduled for many events this summer.

WOOHOO!

Came home from a weeklong vacation in SoCal to find my sonic yellow lip waiting at my door! :)

I've just installed it. First impressions:

- Weight: LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT!

- Structural quality: Seems strong enough. One of the corners was a tad rough.

- Paint job: color match was close enough; quality was, hmmm, average.

- Installation: A cinch. The lip includes double sided tape in 3 locations. Juts peel of the backing. If you want to use the plastic pop rivet that is already on each fender, just drill/dremel out a hole on the lip -- the location is conveniently pre-marked.

- Appearance: Definitely makes the front end more aggressive. Love the exposed CF center section.

- Issues: Well, it hangs about 2-3" below the bumper, and my rex has Prodrive lowering springs. I decided to drive the car straight up my moderately-inclided driveway, fully expecting it to scrape, and sure enough, it did -- BIG TIME. A big chunk of the lip's underside now has a huge gash, with raw fibers exposed. OUCH! But if I angle the car into the driveway, it does not scrape. Perhaps the bigger concern is that when it scraped, the inside edge of the lip managed to scrape up the original bumper a bit, too. I'm going to have to go over the small bumper scrapes with some touch-up paint. Again, I fully expected scraping, especially with my Prodrive-lowered car, and you can't fault OE Tuning for this -- it's just a replica of an existing design after all. (But of course, it doesn't diminish the pain of seeing a huge gash in a brand new lip I paid $450 for! :( )

Any tips on how to avoid scratching up the OEM bumper underneath the lip? I remember I installed a CF V1 front lip onto my rex and it put very fine scratches on the outer sides of the bumper... Or is this lip sanded smooth on the edges?

Thanks!

I've got a real STi v2 front lip and what I did just to be safe was sand some of the edges where I saw that the lip itself could actually touch the bumper otherwise the only thing that touches the bumper was the double sided sticky tape.

Be very careful and try to go up and down drive way at an angle, trust me you will have too, because i had the lip on my car for the pass 5 month and some time it doesn't matter what you do it still going to be scratch, but luckly it is only on the underside. You really don't have to worry about the middle section, but the sides are going to get it the most. Hopefully this will help, drive carefully guys.

Thanks again,

O.E. Tuning haha GREAT! So Now I am looking CF at skirts too... I am already planning on the CF hood, and either the CF trunk OR a new CF STi rep spoiler to replace the one I have now.... (I want all my CF to match quality wise)

Question on the side skirts. Are they going to be "oem style" CF and partially painted like the lip or a different skirt design or what?

I would suggest that you design a skirt that would maybe fit with the V2 lip design a little better ;) Since the lip has the part that sweeps up on the side at the fender well it doesn't really match that well with the OEM skirt... I think something that would kind of blend in style wise with the front lip would be AWESOME! I'll photochop something a little later this weekend... I was thinking maybe someone could incorporate the V2 lip style "vents" at the back part of the skirts to continue along the same style lines.... Just a thought. but I think it would look AWESOME!

the red is quite a bit darker than the rest of the car.. I don't think it is fading since I just had some other stuff repainted and it matched fine...

Not sure if I am going to leave it on or not since the color is so far off..
bummer.

All paint was done by the color code specified at the time of order. Unfortunatley we did not have your car for an exact color match. Weather conditions will change the color of your vehicle over time. Paint should be 95% matched if the correct color code was given.

Before anyone goes insane here, let's keep in mind how brutal shipping can be. I've seen boxes arrive to my door that look like they'd been through a war. Anything subjected to your standard UPS shipping could easily crack, even CF...

hello chobits,

We have called you earlier and no one picked up.

After checking with UPS and your tracking number, this is what we got.

first attempt delivery was made on 6/11
second attempt made on 6/14
third attempt made on 6/15
final delivery was made on 6/16 - received.

UPS has made 4 attempts total to deliver the CF Lip to your location. CF Lip has been in and out of the UPS truck for one entire week, being shoved, tossed around, and extensive abuse. If you see how UPS handles their products, who knows what they'll do when no one is around. We really don't have any control of how UPS handles our packages, especially being in their hands for almost one week.

Your replacement has already been ordered and we'll get you another one ASAP.

As for the two month wait, please do understand this was the initial terms of this group buy.

Since other satisfied O.E. Tuning customers have received this product in the same exact packaging and shipping method, we are sure that our carrier is much at fault, and not O.E. Tuning's craftsmanship.

We do understand your frustration of receiving a damage product from our carrier. We'll work with you personally to resolve this situation as quickly as possible and make sure you'll be as satisfied with O.E. Tuning as our customers have always been.

Please accept our sincerest apologies on this matter as our carrier's etiquette in handling our products are never up to par.

Thanks again everyone for this great opportunity to work with you.

For a company to order you a new one without receiving the old one back yet just on the concerns of a unsatisfied customer is unheard of.
I get mine today, and with that type of service I literally have no worries at all.

In defense of OE Tuning, I would say that the gorillas at UPS certianly aren't known for their care in package handling. My lip arrived with a big gash in it too, but fortunately the lip was fine.

That said, I think OE could stand to do two things: (1) do a better job packing the lip (stiffer box, and/or filler material like styrofoam peanuts), and (2) improve the paint quality. After a week of use, my lip is showing micro cracks in some parts of the paint finish, and every day or two I find tiny (1/16") spots that have chipped off, that I need to apply touch up paint to. I'm sure I will soon get tired of doing this every few days. The paint finish is certainly not OEM quality.

Overall, am I happy with the lip? Yes. Do I feel it was worth the $450+ (includes tax, shipping, and surcharge for Sonic Yellow)? That is questionable.

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your support. As for minor cracks, could this have been caused after the slight incident you had on your driveway? It's like a shock wave that just rides out and eventually leave these little micro cracks you're addressing.

There has not been any chipping on our project vehicle, just the normal chips from a trip to Vegas I believe. We will look into our packaging and further improve it.

As for tax and surcharge for your color, could this have been easier if you lived in the state over and drove a blue wrx instead? ;)

We greatly appreciate your comments as we can only improve from direct end user feedback. Your comments and concerns will only bring O.E. Tuning's products and services to an even greater level.

Thank you.

OE TUning,

Your points are well taken. I mention the tax and paint surcharge only because others might be confused at why I probably paid more than them...it was nothing against you.

The chipping has nothing to do with the packaging, it is occuring on a near-daily basis from normal freeway driving. And I actually noticed the micro-cracks even before I started the car and pulled out of the driveway. (I didn't mention this specifically in my very first post, but it is the reason why I described the paint quality as "average".) Furthermore, the paint layer is noticeably thinner at the top edge where the lip meets the bumper; the dark color of the raw lip shows through. So, in my mind, all 3 of these things point to deficiencies in the paint quality. Maybe it's my lip only; maybe the painter was irked at having to mix a batch of paint for a one-off color and did a less-than-ideal job painting it; maybe the yellow paint you use is thinner than the paint you use for other colors; who knows, perhaps we will never know, I can only make observations.

Again, in general, I am satisfied with the way it looks (I can't help but look back at my car every time I park and walk away from it!), and the fit was good. These are my observations, and I was aware of the risks inherent in purchasing from a new (to the NASIOC community at least) company with a new product, and I will live with my decision. I think it's a decent product, maybe there are a few kinks in your production and shipping logistics, but you are obviously a company that tries as much as possible to keep your customers happy, and for that I commend you.

Dave

P.S. As further evidence of my overall general satisfaction and confidence in you, when will the sideskirts be available? You had mentioned late August, but it wasn't clear if that's when you would start taking orders, or if that's when the lips would ship. Estimates on pricing?

Ok I got mine on.

1. The fiberglass is very thin. I don't see this as too bad of a thing though as it mounted just fine.

2. Paint job wasn't really oem quality, as I had pock marks on near the bolting points to the point that I literally had to fill them in with touch up paint 2 times. The rest of the paint is perfect though and the match is good.

3. It looks good..really good.

Is it worth 400 dollars, well it is a hard question to answer really. I am still up in the air with that one. I think a little more care in painting and it would be easily worth it.

Just trying to be honest here, but it does look good on my car.

OE Tuning,

Thanks for the new tracking number, that one makes a whole lot more sense! Also, thanks for calling me to let me know you took care of it, I don't think a call was even necessary and the fact that you went out of your way is very very nice to see!

the lip (according to UPS) should be here tomorrow, unfortunately my "roll in" at HIN is at 2pm an hour north of my house and the UPS guy usually gets to my place at 3pm :( so even with the 2nd day air upgrade it's a few hours too late...

I will say this, I appreciate all you have done to try to get this to work out for me, I take some of the blame as I read in the original GB that the wait was considerable and the approximate shipping time was RIGHT now... So I don't blame you 100% for it not getting here in time... That was a risk I took... It will be here for my own show in August so that I am happy about...

I too would like to know about the CF skirts and will be contacting you shortly about the hood GB as well, given the level of the Upgraded CF on the lip is to my liking!

Overall I would say OE Tuning has done what it said and has been more helpful than alot of other NASIOC vendors who don't return Emails or calls or anything! ;)

OE tuning....

I have been in China the last 10 days and don't return until the 21st. I have not received a tracking number from you yet so I'm guessing you haven't shipped my lip out.

If at all possible and not to much trouble if you could delay the shipping to my lip to where it arrives on the 21st or later that would be appreciated. I don't want ups to keep on trying to deliver my lip to my house when I'm not there and risk my lip being damaged.

HiFiWRX,

Thank you for your comments. We regret seeing that your lip will arrive a few hours late then what you have planned. However, 2nd day air should arrive by 12pm? and not the regular scheduled delivery times. If the lip still does not arrive in time for your scheduled show, please contact us as we will work with you on an O.E. Tuning part, at partial-sponsorship discount.

lianregnif,
Please email sales@oetuning to schedule a delivery date that is best for you.

Rally Punx,
Please check your email as we have a few questions that need your assistance.

Thank you quasi888 and DragII for your comments and continue support.

We will be posting details of the side skirts as soon as the prototype has been installed and tested. Expect to see something around late august.

--------------------------

As for the issues of paint. The lips that have already arrived will be stripped of their paint and re-painted here locally to ensure the best quality possible. Hoping to receive "excellent quality" instead of satisfactory. We will be paying close attention to the details that were considered an issue.

For the ones that have already been shipped and installed. O.E. Tuning will be offering you a $25.00 discount towards any O.E. Tuning group buy of your choice.

Thanks again everyone for your kind support. Your kind feedback is the best support any company can ask for.

- O.E. Tuning Well it arrived today, I was under the impression that it would be coming at the normal time so I actually left 1 hour before it got here... :( BUT... I am taking it to the show and can hopefully install it prior to them letting the public in... :D Nothing like last min prepping...

Now as for quality... I will say this, I have seen tons of Fiberglass and CF parts and this is 100% worth the $400! I have paid more for parts that weren't nearly this quality level so as far as "quality" and How it was painted, I am pretty happy with it... The paint isn't the best in the world but I have seen worse. on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) I would say the build quality is an 8+ and the paint is probably an 8 (and I don't give or very rarely give 10s ;))

Would I recommend OE Tuning to someone else? ABSOLUTELY! (and I already have!) Their willingness to work with the customers and make everything right goes a long way! Remember they are a relatively new vendor and as with any new product such as the V2 lip etc there will be some adjustments to make them into the best product available. I give OE tuning 2 big thumbs up and will be getting in on the Hood GB and probably the Skirt GB when it happens too!

Good job OE tuning! (I will take you up on the discount though If it's still good, when I get my hood and or skirts ;))

My lip is on and it fits pretty good, It was a tight fit around the wheel wells and the paint did get a little crack cause I was STUPID and tried to force something that shouldn't have been (and didn't need to be) forced ... **this was NO fault of OE tuning what so ever...

Anyway the cracked paint isn't noticable and the crack is really only about 1/8" long... :p

Here are a few pics...

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=394872

OH and the color match... It is as perfect as I have ever seen with this color!! It is the same or better than my Morette's, my side skirts or my fog light covers all of which you can not tell any difference on! 10 out of 10 on the paint match! So far the only part that I have gotten that was not a perfect match was my STi Hood Scoop... but even that is pretty darn close...

I only have 1 complaint about this lip, the little chrome OE tuning sticker that was on the lip... Well on mine it was crooked... It was about 2" to the right of center so I had to take it off cause I am anal about things being symetrical... If you mail me another one I would like to put it back on there! :)

PS OEtuning, I'll send you some HiRes pics in the next day or 2...
