View Full Version : '02 WRX wagon....the love affair continues

The first year that I got the car, I put over 25,000 miles on that sucker. I was driving EVERYWHERE! "Honey, I have to go to Home Depot...in Wisconsin!"

I've only put about 6K miles on the car in the second year of ownership, not because the love affair has diminished in any way, but I have resumed riding my bicycle (after doing the ex-racer blowup), so the car mileage drops dramatically as a consequence.

But this past weekend, while out running errands, I remembered how cool this car is. The first time, I'd forgotten something in the car, and turned around to go back to her---stopped, and was thrilled by how good it looked. I took a couple of seconds to admire. Later in the day, returning to the car, I was again struck by the visual balance, the combination of muscular proportion and subtlety, with the gently flared fenders, and how the wagon's greenhouse really seems to lend an overall visual balance to the whole car.

Driving it, I still find excuses to do hard accelerations in 2nd and 3rd gear, and it's still as fast as I need, and then some. It's fun, it handles great, and after throwing it around at a rallycross on Sunday, marveling at how it, and all the other WRXes just took to the dirt like hogs to slop, it was just so awesome.

I drove home, past the "show and glow" import tuner crowd who were also at Great Lakes, who stared agog at my filthy, filthy ride. I gave her a good wash, put a subtle shine on the tire sidewalls, and I gotta tell you guys...

I love this car. That's all, just wanted to gush in a place where it would be understood.

Good one Kevin,

Keep enjoying it till the next Legacy is released :)

The looks may split opinion a bit, but I've a feeling a new series of passion-filled write ups will be forthcoming :D

I know...Forester XT or new Legover...decisions, decisions. I intend to wait a year or so to let things stabilize in Subaru Land. I feel they're doing so much, so quickly that as with a computer purchase, buying today could mean that you feel like a schmuck tomorrow.

I've had my car about 10 months. just recently, I've been noticing the looks of my car again. I have to agree with you it is one good looking car. :D

I found a nice curvy road and had some fun. Then I washed and cleaned the car today.

Hah, I've had mine for 11 months now, and I still get up from my computer or the TV every once in a while just to go outside and look at it.

Also, sometimes in parking lots of anytime after get out of the car, I walk around it just to look at everything from all angles. I've gotten really weird looks for this before. :disco:

Back in the day, I had a '87 Red 16V VW Scirocco, all Neuspeed and Momo'd out. As much fun as that car was to drive and look at, it can't compare with my little blue wagon ! I do have plans to collect Subies (Brat, B4, Justy...) but my 02 wagon I believe, will always be my pride and joy. :) I think I'll go for a ride in the mountains...

Amen...I'm right there with you Kevin. My wagon is 13 months old and I have 16.5k miles on it...AND I don't drive to work. :)

That's a lot of trips to the grocery store.

Mine is over 2 years old and I still get stares and thumbs up when I drive it. Beyond the looks, I am so pleased with the build quality. I have had 2 CELs (Oxygen sensor and Camshaft speed sensor) that were corrected immediately and no other problems whatsoever. I replaced the 92s with Turanza LS-V and braking and handling is a bit better. This car is just a hoot to drive. Now if I can just get my wife's 95 Legacy to give up the ghost so I can get an STI! :p

I'll be buying the red 04 WRX wagon in 55 days, my first Subie ever. Sometimes I just lie awake at night thinking about how much fun it's going to be :D
