Recently I have convinced myself that my MY98 and its gold rims (with the ongoing evolution of the Impreza) will eventualy be considered the "classic" form of the RS/WRX. Granted, gold rims dont work on every car, sometimes even cheapening the appearance, but on the RS its like it belongs, like a thumbprint on a finger. I think they look great and wouldnt trade them for anything besides, what other car (comparibly with taste and function) would have the balls to wear them in public?

Someone sell 98 rims to me!!! Sigh.. no one on this club is willing to part with those. Well, I guess I'm stuck with powdercoating...

Gold wheels look great on the Impreza, but not on every car. I'd rather sport goldies than chromies, that's for sure.

THese are all opinions, and here's mine. I think gold rims look really good on certain cars, most scoobies (including Legacies!) are included... I don't think it ever looks "ricish", but sometimes it might be a bit curryish.

I guess there was a time when gold wheels meant gold-anodized racing wheels. That time is long past. Nowadays, wheels are painted gold and that is cheesy, in the same way that functionless rear spoilers and hood scoops are cheesy.

Yes that's correct, 1998 was the only year the RS came with gold rims from the factory.

I think that the gold wheel Impreza combo is classic(on certain colors), but gold on some other cars........just plain dumb.

BTW IMHO I think some gold rims look good, I'm not a big fan of the stock goldies though. But if other people like them...that's cool. What I can't stand is this cars that offer the "Gold trim" packages where the trim is all gold and the wheels are still silver.

Nah, my favorite are the gold trim packages that just replace "some" of the trim.

so they've got a gold badge and some other accents. but there is still chrome near the window or other parts..

To the Rim debate... Well, i just got a new White WRX Wagon, and i've been thinking about rims alot. My dads got a 97 Forester with the 5 spoke aluminum 16"s. I've got the 16"s not the 17" BBS. + I have a powder coating hook up. I was thinking about powder coating the Forester rims white and putting them on my WRX. No you guys got me thinking, should i go gold?

I generally don't like the gold rims or add ons that are functionless. Also, I think the Silverthorne RS looks better with silver aluminum alloy rims because of how it brings together the colors on the car. However, the RS was designed to look like the WRC rally car and that sort of justifies functionless hood scoops and rear spoilers. Also, the gold rims will always look good on the blue RS or WRX because that's the way it has always been.

Plus they are very rare being the real oem gold only came on 98 US specs and are the same as oversea's WRXs.

I guess this would be a perfect thread to say mine are forsale at a decent offer or trade I have to get anthercite(sp).

Gold is in I have a arcadia green 98 with gold rims and I wouldn't trade em for the world I want to get some steely's for winter so I don't trash them.
