View Full Version : BS from John Elway Subaru in CO
WRXThis 03-12-2001, 12:34 PM John Elway Subaru is saying anyone that order there car for less then MSRP won't be getting a WRX. They said they called SOA today and SOA said that only dealers selling the car for MSRP will get a WRX. Is this some of the biggest BS you have ever heard or what? I of course am concerned because I got mine for $1,000 over invoice and I want my WRX by the date I was told.
enuttage 03-12-2001, 12:37 PM Did you sign for it (a purchase order)? If you did, I'd say you've got a winning lawsuit on your hands.
If not, I'd say you're SOL, and you've got an underhanded, slimy, ridiculously untruthful dealer. It'll be worth the wait to go elsewhere.
Good luck, and I'm sorry to hear it either way.

WRXThis 03-12-2001, 12:46 PM First off this isn't the dealer I ordered from. This is just another dealer in the area that I was talking to at the auto show yesterday. They did not believe me when I told them I got mine for $1,000 over invoice at another dealer. They said that all dealers in the US have to sell at MSRP or they will not be getting a WRX. They said they called SOA today to confirm that. I did sign a buyers order with my truthfull dealer. I am just hoping this is BS from this dealer.

enuttage 03-12-2001, 12:51 PM Ahh! I get it now.
So this part still applies
you've got an underhanded, slimy, ridiculously untruthful dealer. It'll be worth the wait to go elsewhere
Glad to hear you won't be the one getting shafted on that one!

micah 03-12-2001, 12:51 PM Not positive but sounds a lot like BS: Subaru would likely be a lot more concerned with dealers selling over MSRP than under. It's no skin off SOA's butt if the dealer wants to take less profit.
mbs
Seamus 03-12-2001, 12:56 PM Yeah, that sounds like BS all right. Something the dealer made up, perhaps in order to deflect complaints from buyers upset at not getting a "discount". I wouldn't think it matters to Subaru. The company makes their money, the same profit per vehicle, regardless of what the dealer finally sells it for, don't they?
puzurinshushinak 03-12-2001, 02:16 PM It is BS. I got my car for much less than $1,000 under MSRP. My car arrived at the dealer today.
[edit: Also, Lord Atak is correct. If SOA refused to honor sold orders on the basis that the orders were for less than MSRP, they would be engaging in resale price maintenance, which is prohibited by the federal anti-trust laws.]

WRXThis 03-12-2001, 02:21 PM Thanks for everyones reply. I am going to show this post to the dealer tonight to prove them wrong. Moral of the story is do not buy from John Elway Subaru.
tomrichardson 03-12-2001, 02:26 PM I have heard bad things about the John Elway dealership. No bad experiences, personally. But, I have not dealt with them yet! I also plan on NOT dealing with them.
And yes, John Elway is a punk!! You should see his cheesy @ss commercials on TV!!!
Tom
Lord-Atak 03-13-2001, 01:45 AM I don't think SOA is legaly aloud to do that.
