Hiya Baja peoples...

I've had this pair of Hella FF200s lying around for nearly two years now and originally got them to mount on my RS...Well, some of you know that story, so now they're just sitting around waiting to be mounted to the Baja. Any ideas on how to do this, short of coughing up cash for a Nudge/Bull bar? I'd like to mount them on top, a la sport activity lights, but have no clue of how I'd do that. If nothing else is possible I can mount them along the bumper, but again, how can I sans a brush bar?

If you want to do the light bar on top...just order the individual Sport Activity Lights kit minus the actual lights. You'll get brackets, wiring etc. that will mount to the crossbar.

Or you can use my method....mount the lights into the license plate holes. You would be surprised how secure this is!

And you can keep your front plate too. IM me on AIM for pics.

This brings up a question I've had for a while...

It's sort of "the style" to mount extra lights above the roof on trucks. I imagine this is so you can get extra light further down the road, since the lower the lights are on the vehicle, the more obstructions the light pattern is likely to hit...

However, in dusty, rainy, snowy or foggy conditions it seems to me that roof-mounted lights would just end up blinding you, which is why Rally teams mount them to the front of the car (I assume).

Thoughts?

Fog lights should be mounted low, driving lights up high. It depends on what you want your lights to do and what you want them to be effective at.

I imagine this is so you can get extra light further down the road

You can easily bypass the "parking brake only" feature. I dont know how but i'm sure it can be done.

It is illegal for lights to be higher than a certain level for street use.. but driving lights should be as high as legally possible.

From what my brother (becomeing a cop) told me that any aftermarket lights have to be DOT(Department Of Transportaion) approved but the only light that is approved are the factory lights headlight, brakelights, factory driving lights, Ect.

They work just fine going down the road with just 1 click of the hand brake,just don't get caught by the law man.

does one click of the brake handle engage the brakes at all?

No,at least not on mine.I'm going to pull my console and see if the switch can be jumped so you won't have to mess with the brake.I might have to wait til the weekend to do this.

Any luck bypassing the handbrake switch? I would love to do this, I have no intention of using them on street roads; but they would be useful on some backroads late at night.

The parking brake switch itself is a VERY simple pin and sring. Easily bypassed, but then the "BRAKE" light will be on. The key is to bypass it somewhere else. I'll deal with that when I get the cash to order the sport activity lights.

I made some brackets last year for my V70R, these were for my 7" Lucas 2020 driving lights. I was thinking of adding them to the Baja:

I like how the MiniCooper has brackets that attach through the grille on the hood, very clean look.
