Well, blew up my ring and pinon, which blew a hole in my tranny.

My new STi Forester Turbo automatic tranny has the turbo gear ratios like the WRX BUT with the NA 4.44 final drive ratios like the RS, so I can't use my 4.11 rear LSD diff like the WRX uses.

Would be willing to trade my LSD for one, or buy your auto LSD if I must.

email larry@subaruplanet.com

PS: STi center diff for sale - used for a couple of weeks. Good for any phase 2 five-speed tranny, NA or turbo. $750

I was over at the shop and saw the damage. Pretty impressive job to shell that many teeth off the ring gear. Ouch !!

Sucks you have to replace it, but that diff has killed a couple tranny gear sets hasn't it ?

Got to look at the new setup on your car, looks very nice. Can't wait for all the teething problems to get sorted so you can get some numbers on that beast.

Have you given any thought to getting the new ring and pinion cryo'd before you put it all back together?

Yeah, that front ring and pinon has seen two broken trannies before causing the third failure. We are not going to repair it, since the case is beyond repair. All the fun parts related to the manual tranny have been sold (i.e. gears, flywheel, clutch, STi diff) except the Symm short shifter, rear diff and drive shaft, pedals, hydraulic slave cylinder and broken shell of the tranny. I also have a stock shift linkage for sale.

I am installing the STi Turbo Forester automatic tranny as is, with a limited slip 4.444 rear diff when we find one. The TCU is from a WRX, and the LSD has to come from a Impreza 2.5RS automatic or a Forester LS. The subaru automatics are far stronger, and many are living through 350-400whp. We will mount the tranny cooler in the hood scoop, since I have an AWIC, so that should be pretty slick.

Later, I can always do a valve body job or a higher stall TC if I need to, but this 2.5L is so dang torquey that even with the low compression pistons and taller second gear I was able to take off from a stop light in second gear and go all the way to 65mph at 7,000rpm! So, I figure even with only 2-3 psi of boost at 2000 rpm I should get a good launch with the automatic. If not, I could also do a small 50 shot of Nitrous to spool it up

This will be good for my chronic tendonitis too, since I don't have to work the clutch. There have been days when I had to drive the Suzuki XL7 because my knees hurt too bad to drive the RST.

PS: 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R with bad motor, but good everywhere else, for sale. email offer. Blue book was $1,800 with factory stereo, but will take offers well BELOW that price to cover your getting a used motor and labor to install it. I might be pulling the $500 aftermarket stereo and leaving the factory one in the back seat tomorrow, so speak fast.
