I just came from the dealership and they gave me a 2002 ordering guide http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif , well in all the pics of the WRX the lower molding (rocker-panel) was black! And the 2.5RS's were body colored! What a freakin rip-off!
Say it ain't so Glenn!!

Ummm....the rocker panel molding on the RS is not body colored. It is black. You may have seen a pic of someone that painted it.

You can always get the black WRX

Yeah, you can just remove them and get them painted like the current car.

I actually think it looks better than the extension kit...!

Does anybody know if the extension kit is available from the dealer? I saw the silver one on Glen's site with the lower lip is that standard or will they come like the brochure?

I talked to my dealer and he said that it's supposed to be available later this year (about 6 months) but is not available right now. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif

Has anyone had their's painted yet? Just wondering how well they take paint, how much it cost you, etc.

I hear they paint rather well. I am taking mine to the body shop this week sometime along with my C-Westin covers to paint.

If I didn't say this before, the 02 2.5RS has NO mouldings there, and that is why you see the body color.

At one of the dealerships while shopping for my WRX, a silver sedan had a painted set of lower mouldings. It looked great, really finished off the car. Off course the dealer wanted $950 for a "Ground Effects Package". When I pointed out to the salesman that they were just the stock ones painted silver, he said it was pretty ridiculous that they charged that much for painting them. He guessed you could have it done for less than $200. So, they can take paint pretty well, and it shouldn't cost a whole lot to have it done.

We can get you the really nice C-West sideskirts for $480, and it should only cost about $200.00 to get them painted. Installation takes about 5 minutes, it bolts right on perfectly. So, for about $680.00 you can have something really nice. But the stock ones will look lots better painted, so spend the 200 bucks at least -- you won't be sorry! (If you want to order the sideskirts, we may have one set left in stock, so let us know.) Vickey & Byron. www.B-SpecUSA.com (http://www.B-SpecUSA.com)

When I got my WRX a couple weeks ago, I asked the dealer to paint the side moldings. They charged me 250 total. It looks SO much better, just like the J-spec STIs. The quality was pretty good too. Looks OEM. However, they can't paint the "L" shaped weather molding in front of the rear wheel.

If they can paint the plastic side skirts, why can't they paint the L shaped plastic protector in front of the rear wheel well?

I suspect that the piece doesn't come off and they are too lazy to mask around it.

I recall someone else talking about this plastic protector and there was a reason...can't remember which thread it was in though. I'll see if the dealer can do anything about painting that piece.

Just get the WRX Ground Effects kit from Sugar. That $980 includes front and rear lip extensions and air dams/deflectors, and the two side skirts all pre-painted to factory spec. She will also sell parts from the kit (as mentioned, $225 for just the side skirts). This is a FAR better idea than getting the existing skirts painted.
