I was thinking about painting the lower part of my dark metallic teal car, charcoal.Has anyone seen this done before? If so,how did it look?The rest of the paint is not in bad shape but the bottom is all stone chiped.Do you guys think this will look OK? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/confused.gif

I don't know. I was thinking about doing my rear bumper and lower cladding up to the front wheel wells in black, as well as painting the roof black.

Because the paint is metallic, it needs to be stripped back to bare metal before the new color is applied (read: $$$$$$$$$$$). Otherwise, the paint will not stick, and will peel off much like those GM cars you see that look like the paint has some kind of cancer. I wanted to get my RS repainted, and was told the bad news...

Yep, getting the paint to stick is a major problem. You also have to consider that the lower garnishes on the sides and the the rear deck and spoiler are made out of different plastics. There are seperate procedures for painting each kind of plastic as well as the procedure for painting the steel. If anything, I'd have them do a "scuff up" and then, re-apply original color.

I am more more interested in how it will look, not in the procedure.I have a couple of friends in the body shop business that I help now and then, so doing it is not a problem.I was wandering if anybody has seen this paint scheme before? I don't want to do it and have it look bad.

Hey, I love the look on the OBS's, and I personally think it would look killer on an SVX. I'd love to see a teal metallic and silver SVX, and I think charcoal would probably kick too.

Thanks for the opinions everbody.I think I am going to do it, but i will probably wait until spring.Winters around here are not very friendly to new paint.We could still get together sometime soon though.
