View Full Version : WRX Tow Hitch
Does anyone have any info on a tow hitch for either the sedan or wagon WRX? The options I have seen for it on new-impreza.com say the available hitch is not for the WRX. Is one going to be available?
Thanks,
Zak
ANZAC_1915 02-11-2001, 07:36 PM I'm assuming that Subaru is not wanting to encourage anyone to tow with a WRX.

Chuck Annicelli 02-11-2001, 09:12 PM Why not because of the Turbo?
I kinda hoped I could towe my 200lb trailer and my 400lb Quad. 600 lbs is not too much.

Scooby do 02-11-2001, 09:29 PM I plan on hauling my dirtbike. It says right in the brochure that you can haul up to 2000lbs with a class 1 hitch on the WRX. A boost gauge would be nice to see if you are putting a load on the turbo though.

EricB 02-12-2001, 10:01 AM Seems a little strange that they'd put a 2000 lb. towing limit in the brocure and then not sell the tow bar package. Especially when they DO sell it in England for the WRX.
Look around at www.subaru.co.uk/index2.htm (http://www.subaru.co.uk/index2.htm) for accessories and you'll find it.

SuperHawk 02-12-2001, 10:35 AM I need the trailer hitch to haul my Mtn. bike around. I was going to get a slider rack so that nothing would touch the paint on the new car. You can also get a snow ski adapter for them so you do not have to put the skis in the car.
My friend has one on his GST Eclipse and it works great.
So if SOA is reading this, we want a trailer hitch for the WRX.
ANZAC_1915 02-12-2001, 11:49 AM Yes, I think it very strange that one isn't listed for the WRX, and then only listed for the TS/OBS wagons (not the 2.5RS sedan).
Both UK and Australia list hitches. You could always get a hitch from overseas and then just get the US wiring (which is different due to different trailer connectors and the US's stupid protocol of 4 pin connectors and using brake lights as turn signals).

Scooby do 02-12-2001, 05:35 PM I am pretty sure Draw-tite will make a hitch for it. If they have a web site I will find out.
Thanks

EricB 02-13-2001, 01:54 AM I wonder if the tow hitch for the TS/OBS would work, and if not, why. I haven't seen enough pics of the rear of the TS vs. WRX to know if there's a big difference between the 2. I've been toying around with the idea of buying it anyway, then trying to see if it fits by myself. Do you think I could return it if it didn't fit?

ConeMasher 03-27-2001, 12:04 PM Any news on this? I'd really like to get a trailer for my race tires/rims (rather than messing up my interior).
As stated earlier in the thread, overseas, the trailer hitch is sold for ALL models (including the WRX sedan), thus negating SOAs reason for not selling it to the sedan.
Here's the link to the accessory list in the UK: http://www.subaru.co.uk/mshow/accesslist.htm
Anyway, looking at my US owner's manual, it states: "Consult with a professional hitch supplier to assist you in choosing an appropriate hitch for your vehicle". Rather odd, as for the wagons, "the use of a genuine SUBARU trailer hitch is recommended".
Has anyone experimented yet?

EricB 03-28-2001, 12:48 PM Given that the UK website has the same trailer hitch for the WRX Wagon, TS, and OBS, I'm guessing the same will hold here in the US.
Plus, I got an email from subaruparts.com saying I could return the trailer hitch if it didn't fit. I'm going to go ahead and order it and try and put it on. I'll keep you all updated.

Scooby do 03-28-2001, 04:04 PM Mike, if you get a chance can you look to see if it will line up with the sedan also, if you have one in stock. Please.
Thanks
Bob
Mike2003 03-29-2001, 01:58 AM Wait do not order the hitch from subaruparts.com I will order a hitch in here and will try to put it in a wrx wagon. That way you will not lose the cost of freight. If you need to send the hitch back. I will keep you posted if it works or not
Thanks Mike
