View Full Version : Ive had my car for a whole whopping 6 weeks!!!!! (rant- sorry)
slowSSer 06-09-2003, 06:37 PM I know Im new here, but I just needed to express frustration to those who will understand:
was up on Angeles Crest Highway (Highway 2) in SoCal, about at the Mt. Wison turnoff, and this kid (younger than me and probably about 20) comes around a corner on his Honda motorcycle on the WRONG side of the highway. A brief course-correction turned a head-on into a side swipe. he was at least 1/3 of the way into my lane when he hit. I couldnt get over further to the right without hitting the guard rail.
here's the amazing part: neither of us were abusing the speed limit.
second amazing part: the kid on the bike is fine.
third amazing part: the internals of both impacted doors are fine and are in perfect working condition. odd.
so, damage done:
driver's door dinged
rear drivers side door majorly hit (point of impact)
rear fender (quarter panel?) dinged
rear drivers side wheel dinged (chunk of aluminum missing- amazing)
so, my WReX is sitting at home, licking its wounds. poor car. now begins the *****ty part of dealing with insurance and watching them try to squirm out of paying.
sorry for the rant, Im done.
cdvma 06-09-2003, 06:40 PM Interesting there was that much damage but the rider wasn't hurt.

I forgot to add:
his bike had to get trailered off the hill: front turn indicators were hosed, probably the instrument cluster as well, front tire flat, looked like a bent brake rotor. my friend had to drag the bike off the road- wheels were not rolling (could the fronts have been locked somehow??? sorry- not a motorcycle person here)
satrya 06-09-2003, 07:46 PM Sorry to hear about the incident. Wouldn't the biker's insurance be responsible for the repair though? I assume police was involved.
Either way, that's too bad.
Boxologist 06-09-2003, 11:41 PM ur insurance company should be the one banging the motorcyclist's company's door. u should be fine.
JDMpreza 06-09-2003, 11:54 PM hey man if it makes you feel any better, a week after i got my car my ex-gfs new boyfriend was driving her car and saw me driving. he cut in front of me and slammed on his brakes and caused 4 grand in damages (including frame damage) to my car. and now they are claiming injury.
on the plus side- i finally got my car back a few days ago and my exhaust can finally go on! :D

Did you give him a thorough beat down? If not then, I would still get him back..........."revenge is a dish best served cold" and not for being with your ex but for messing with your ride.

his insurance company went and took pix of the car this morning. so, we'll see what happens next.
Stanley 06-10-2003, 02:23 PM Hey, at least you have the name and info of the guy who hit you. I usually park in my garage, but last Friday I hosted poker night in the garage and had the car parked on my street. Some jackass sideswiped the car and didn't leave a note.
mickeyboone 06-10-2003, 04:04 PM while you are at it see if you can get the ins. co. for "diminished value"...after all you now owe payments on a vehicle that is no longer worth what it once was. and i am not talking about normal depreciation. get him for repairs and then about the same amount additional for loss of value. it is like trying to win a slip and fall against walmart, but everything is possible if you try, and nothing is possible if you don't

I dont want to be too big a d**k about the whole thing- insurance is a touchy thing to deal with, and I dont want to go overboard. I am going to do what I can to get enough ca$h to return it to previous condition, considering that previous condidion was brand new.
thanks for all the info, NASIOCers
Jimmy S. 06-10-2003, 09:36 PM w00t to no injuries.

just leak his name on here and all will be taken care of.
OT has some leg-breaking services for hire if that suits your fancy
WA//M 06-11-2003, 06:13 PM actually, i bet the bike is totaled. bent brakes and front wheel not rolling make it likely that the forks are bent. that plus plastic damage is usually enough to total a bike. FYI...

Sounds like you have a pretty crappy insurance company. The whole purpose of insurance is so that you don't have to worry about how repairs are going to be taken care of. I don't know if you have been burned in the past, but if you have, get a new insurance company, and if you haven't, don't worry about it; it will all be worked out.
FYI: I use Amica...they are really good.
EDIT: There is also gap insurance (for future reference), which will cover the difference if your car is totaled and it was worth less than you owe. A good thing for when your car gets slammed by a semi as you drive it off the lot...
mtb_dude 06-17-2003, 04:36 PM I agree, this is not your fault at all. You're insurance company will fight for you (or should).
