My friend is looking at a '99 Impreza 2.5TS. Is there anything to look out for in these models? Is the 2.5L in this car the SOHC or DOHC? thanks!

There is no such animal as a 99 2.5 TS. The first year for the 2.5l outside of an RS is 2002 in the second generation.
The 99 has a bullet proof 2.2l SOHC. Very dependable but less power.
The only things to watch for are leaky oil seals on the crank and cams. Look for oil seepage. The timing belt should be changed at around 100k kms.
In my biased opinion its a good car. No worries. It just needs more power and of course the usually suspension and brake upgrades.

Yeah.. i didn't think there was a '99 2.5 TS. My friend (doesn't know much about Subaru's) said that's what the car salesman told him. I had to go school the used car salesman by showing him the VIN badge and low and behold the engine type said ej22.

untrue.

the TS was an available model in Canada....

the first time the USA saw the label "TS" was 2002. :)

Subiegal, the TS was available in 1999 in Canada, but only with the 2.2l. It added alloy wheels and a few other nice cosmetics. We only got the 2.5l with the 2002, except for the RS.
