Hey nubbsjr, I see that you're going to replace your resinator on your 92. I have a similar rattle coming from somewhere down below the car. Mine is from around 1500rpm up to exactly 3000. Once I reach 3000 it just stops. Think its the same thing? I'd like to get it taken care of. The damn thing sounds like a Chevy right now, how embarassing. Can you let me know when you're gonna do yours? Maybe I'll drive up and offer my limited assistance so I understand how to mine. If you take it somewhere can you let me know how much it cost? The resinator doesn't do much of anything right so its not gonna screw anything else up is it?

This is an easy fix, any competent muffler shop can do it. They cut out the resonator and replace it with a section of straight pipe. Takes about 1/2 hour, costs about US$25.

Your SVX will bark when you start it, you'll get a turbo-like whine at around 3500RPM, and your SVX will sound like it has found a slighlty larger pair of balls.

AFter you have this repair made you will kick yourself for not having it done sooner. Just make sure they remove the RESONATOR and not the CATALYTIC CONVERTER

Yeah, mine had the low rpm rattle also, just through a certain range. Everyone talked about the heat shields rattling so much that I just figured that's what it was. All the heat shields looked pretty beat up, and I never did really pursue it.

Well, just for the improved sound, I had the resonator removed and replaced with straight pipe at a local muffler shop. Bingo.....rattle gone. The exhaust was still too quiet in my opinion (and I'm 35 years old!), but the rattle was gone, and that made me happy. The change in the exhaust note was small enough that my wife never even noticed. Bless her heart! Not like when I changed the exhaust on her minivan http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif.....but that's another story. She hated that.

It is probably the same thing. I am pretty sure I fixed all of the heat shield rattles myself. To do that I took them off and wrapped fiberglass rope that goes around the doors of a wood stove.I am going to stop at a guy I know to see about losing the resonator.I'll let you know how it goes.I might even see if he can build a complete custom exhaust for it.

Thanks for the advise guys. I'll just take it to a shop if its that cheap. I don't mind getting dirty once in a while but might as well get it done right I guess. Besides I can't stand the growl of gm pushrod engine that I'm hearining now. I'm actually embarrassed by it. If you know what I mean. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/eek.gif

Just got back from the exhaust shop.Having the resonator done next thursday. He said it will cost about 40 bucks to cut it out and weld in the new piece. While he has it in the air he is going to figure out if he can do the whole system.I think he does a lot of custom stuff so he should be able to.I let you know how it goes.
