Pumps,,,
Happens to me too...I've read that it is just another quirk of the wonderful RS tranny. Sucks doesn't it :(

Same thing occasionally happens in my RS as well...along with the clutch shudder...but I still love my car :D

I have had my 00RS for a few months now...learning/learned stick on this car. When I do 4-5 shift, it is a bit stubborn going into 5th so it takes me longer to shift than any other so RPM drops more than usual (except the dreaded 1-2).
I found out that if I tap the gas one more time before letting the clutch out, it is very smooth. I guess what I am trying to saying is GIVE MORE GAS! :)

i dont think its with all RS trannies though. My transmission has 117xxx miles on it (on a 99...lots of driving!) and i never have any grinding...ever. It is a bit sluggish going into 5th but since 5th is the overdrive gear i dont worry about super fast shifts into it anyway since theyre not for power.
if youre still under warranty have SoA check it out for ya...maybge you have a bad synchro on 5th...maybe not but hey when its under warranty go for it ;)

mine did this for a while - then i replaced the trans fluid with redline mtl (i think that's what i used)... no more grinds even when shifting fast...
like pouring in a new transmission - it helps the syncro mesh 100%

Yeah, I've got a 00RS, 5th gear synchro is a tad slow up around 60mph...if I don't let the tach drop about 1000rpm the teeth on the synchro like to slip on the gear before it meshes...I haven't tried reline yet, but I hear good things. I might have to change the fluid to see what happens. Double clutching 5th keeps it from "grinding" all the time, you just can't rush it on a single clutch. You have to let the rpm's drop a tad. Between 2-3 and 3-4 there's only like a 1000rpm difference, but between 4-5 there's a tad more...
[Edit: changed "...tach drop around 1000..." to current wording to avoid confusion...I normally shift out of 4th to 5th around 5000rpm, take it out of 4th at 5000, let the rpm's drop to about 3900 then engage 5th.]
