View Full Version : hello? Rs?
Asianeklipse 06-19-2003, 02:41 AM Hi uhh.. well I wasn't completely sure to post this but I had some questions. My friends "boyfriend" is selling his 2000 Impreza Rs, and I'm more than likely going to buy it. I was wondering though, what and where can I find parts? Engine and Exterior wise... I was looking to put around 8 - 10k worth of aftermarket parts into the car, i.e. turbo, intake, brakes, etc. I was wondering if anyone could help me out and like show me a good and fund efficient way to produce the best car I can.
I was going to go in the following direction with it:
1. Suspension
2. Brakes
3. Turbo
4. Exterior Body work (spoiler, paint, etc)
If anyone has any suggestions or any tips I'd really appreciate them, a lot! hehe.. I'm new at this, and I would like to get off to a good start.
Thanks,
Brodie Yazaki
halftendril 06-19-2003, 02:59 AM Turbo kits you may want to check out are the AVO kit at www.spomotorsports.com ludespeed kits at www.ludespeed.com or get a wrx engine swap at www.i-speed.us.
For the brakes maybe a new set of rotors and better pads would be a good move as opposed to a big brake kit. Stoptech has some axxies pads for pretty cheap https://www.stoptech.com/, You may want to just get slotted rottors or go for a wrx front brake conversion.
Also check out http://www.cobbtuning.com/ for their suspension packages and other stuff
linsavy 06-19-2003, 09:26 AM Many folks who went turbo wished they did the wrx swap instead. It would cost about the same but gives a worry/hassle free car.
There is lots you can do with suspension. First you should set your goals. Street, autox, track, rallyx. Then set your budget. There are some great spring and strut combos or full blown coilover/bushing replacements and chassis bracing. Really do your research before deciding so that you only need to buy the stuff once.
There is also a bunch of wings, skirts, lips, scoops, vents etc to buy. Check out the galleries and dress-up and style forums for pics of all the kits and decide what you like. That stuff is big $$ though so it you go big on performance so will need to go small there.
No one can tell you what to get as your budget will require many decisions and trade-offs because you can't get it "all". One can easily spend 6k on suspension, $7.5k on the swap, $3k on power upgrades with or without the swap, $3k on wheels and tires, $5k+ on body and interior, etc.
Welcome to the dark side.
AcquaCow 06-19-2003, 12:15 PM 8-10k? you say? ... heck, either do the wrx swap, or go JDM 2.0...I dunno the pricing on a 22B swap, but thats what i'm looking for in about a year.
--edit--
also...I've heard stories of 4lb boosted RS's tearing the teeth right off of first gear on the stock tranny...solutions being MRT unbreakable gear set or a full tranny swap. If you go with a tranny swap, get the 6 speed =) its supposedly quite bulletproof.

Good luck sourcing a 22B motor...

Not happening. I almost got a 22B clip once, but it "never arrived". Trust me, move on with your plans. It's seriously not happening and if you did find one it's still not worth the money.
JewPac42 06-19-2003, 08:54 PM If you are moving to Cali emissions with a turbo are going to be a problem. I would go with a wrx swap from i-speed. 8-10k should cover it easly with money left for wheels, tires, a swaybar (best mod ive done to my car) and a beefy set of tranny gears. Check out i-speed at www.i-speedusa.com.
I built my turbo from scratch... I'm a geek and like to be hands on. That being said, if this engine blows it will either be an EJ205 swap or a Legacy EJ22T hybrid w/ reflashed RS ECU.

Good call...im moving to CA in a few yrs and im goin w/ the USDM swap...it will be nice to have the reliability and legal emissions so i dont have to tune my car everytime i go into to get it tested!
