Just installed my Blitz Nur Spec Touring cat back exhaust and all I have to say is WOW! I couldn't have asked for a better balance. It has a nice deep tone/throb at idle and I like its smooth sound when revving...you know how some exhausts spit and pop? It's very quiet to me and around town at 3000 RPM and below it stays that way with only the deeper tone to give it away. Obviously with the windows down you can tell a difference, but I doubt you'd draw any unwanted attention. Stepping on the gas at 3000+ RPM and the sound picks up, but to me, it doesn't get excessive. It really has a wonderful sound.

I think this exhaust could be the answer to those looking for a deep tone and great sound that doesn't want to attract the sound police. This is what I was looking for. I'd thought about the Greddy Evo, but I wanted stainless steel piping all the way. The HKS Carbon/Ti was also on my list, but I didn't want the flash.

Install was a snap, though I went on a search for a 3" diameter exhaust gasket but had no idea how hard this would be to find. You might think about ordering one before you get your exhaust so you'll have it. I finally ordered FelPro material to make my own (should be here tomorrow.) The exhaust came with one gasket, intending on you reusing the doughnut gasket, but I found mine braking down so I decided to replace it with a regular gasket.

BTW, I have a Godspeed catless downpipe, but the stock catted uppipe is still there (Perrin pipe is on it's way.) I'll have to wait and see if this changes my opinions much concerning the sound. I found the CB exhaust to really smooth out the powerband. I felt a little more power and quicker spool. Also, it's much more enjoyable to cruise at say 3500RPM where before it sounded strained and thrashy now it's just a smooth purr.

It must've had some effect on power or atleast spool up characteristics because I have a UTEC (stage1) and when initially adjusting the ABC (pre-CB) I had to turn it 3 turns opposed to the recommended 2 turns just to make the boost TurboXS specified for that state of tune. Doing this I reached the spec'd levels and never received any knock. However after the CB I reset the ECU and took her out to let her learn the new ste-up. Getting out on a deserted straight I roll into it... the boost shoots up and I get a flashing CEL indicating knock and I could feel the timing being pulled. Well so much for that! I pulled off the road adjusted the ABC to 2 turns reset the ECU and go back out...BINGO right on the money. I can't wait to install the uppipe and upgrade to stage 2.

Almost forgot...and wish I could. The muffler is a large, but I don't feel it hangs down excessively. However, I'd pulled into a parking lot with a significantly bumpy entry that jostled the car left to right when pulling in at an angle. When leaving I decided to take it straight so that it wouldn't rock the car too bad. I bet yuou can guess what happend...yep CLANG! Bumped the muffler and upon inspection it put a slight crease on the bottom. Nothing significant, but I know it's there and besides, it was the FIRST FRIGGIN' DAY!! Just wanted to share my pain.

I just got mine on Friday, had to wait over a month b/c of Blitz's backorder but i agree with you, it was well worth the wait! Sound is quiet but you definetly know you threw the stock exhaust in the garbage. I installed the Perrin Catless DP at the same time so as far as performance gains i have to take both into consideration. the biggest difference i noticed was the top end pull to redline, the car screams to redline whereas before past 5500 rpms she let go a bit. Can't be happier with the exhaust though. Muffler is a little large for my taste, i had Kartboy make me some longer hangers to replace the rear hangers so that the tip wasn't too close to my bumper as i have heard of guys melting their bumpers b/c it sits too close! Like you i have been on the search for a 3in gasket, i even went to the local tractor supply place to look for one. I have the material pack to make one but i would prefer to find the proper gasket. So for now i am cruising w/o a rear gasket although its not leaking yet.

Yeah, being polished as well, it's a little more noticable than I'd like. I was too busy driving it and listening to it that I hadn't really just stood back and given it a look.

I got my FelPro material today (double sided with some sort of metal in between) and made the gaskets. They turned out very well. If you would've told me I'd be making gaskets (even 2 months ago) I would've said you're CRAZY! I'd built it up the process much more in my mind then the reality turned out to be. I had to make two since I wasn't getting a good seal at the down-to-midpipe juction. As it turned out the ?spring bolt? was stripped and wouldn't tighten enough so I used some of the extra bolts I had left over from removing the standard U-brace bolts (ALK installed) Anyway I used the new gasket on the DP-MP junct. and put one of the ones I made on top of it, then put the other one i made at the axle back spot. I figured I'd use the "good" supplied gasket at the hottest spot. It worked like a charm. It must've been leaking a pretty good bit because the sound is even deeper and a little quieter.

I've had mine for a week and it gets better everyday! I had my shop replace the "choke down" section at the DP flange with 3" SS pipe and I believe the flow is a little better. It's quieter than the NurSpec R axle-back I had previously, but still sounds very nice! True, the muffler cannister is a bit large, but I like the more "civilized" volume. :D

when you say 'touring" is there different kinds of nur-spec catbacks? i heard that the blitz is loud??

i have the greddy evo and the sound is perfect, but i want a smaller muffler. i like the looks of the blitz, but i heard it is pretty loud (and i don't want any louder).

anyone? anyone? :lol:

Yes there's two different types of Nur Spec mufflers, the touring (pretty quiet and the one reviewed here) and the R (loud). The GReddy tucks up under the bumper pretty well from what I've seen. The muffler, on the touring model at least, is fairly large and is quite visable from the rear. My guess is that it is more so then the GReddy. Hope this helps.

Just an update...the Touring catback is not for the "performance" minded in my opinion. The muffler shrinks down to what looks like 2.5" inside the cannister. My 1/4 mile times suffer by around .1-.3 seconds. I've tested this by running with the mid-pipe disconnected from the axle-back section. Nice quiet sound, but at the expense of free flow like the NurSpec R. YMMV. :D

thanks for that info, i haven't heard of that before. how much did u pay and where did u get it??

so far i heard a lots of good stuff about the blitz exhaust. i'm in the process of waiting for me blitz exhaust to come in from japan.
my exhaust also have been back order. i can't wait for it to come in. i waited for it about a month now. the way everyone say the exhaust is, i hope it's worth the wait.:lol:

What is the overall length of the canister, including the tip? I'm thinking about getting the Blitz exhaust and it looks friggin' huge in the pictures?

It is pretty big and a little more "obvious" than I'd like. I'll measure mine when I get home. (graveyard shift)

Ok here's the specs as promised. the canister is approximately 7" tall, 10"wide, 21"total length, and 14" for just the muffler. Hope this helps.

standbyscooby- I just measured a couple of ground clearances. The low point of the muffler (towards the center of the car where it starts to angle up) is 5.75" to the ground and the piping is about 4.25" at it's low point. Now before you get freaked out I have Cusco Zero-2R's lowered to about 25" from the ground to the top of the wheelwell F/R so on a stock WRX it'd be a couple inches higher. If you want any specific clearances let me know.
