it has 128k miles on it and it's fwd :/ I have a question... The 4eat thats in it has a Manual switch on the gear shifter. I looked at the manual and still don't understand it.

Also anyone know at what rpm the rev limiter kicks in? red line starts at 6,000. I think it's a 1.8L or it could be a 2.2 I dunno.

I think the rev limiter is around 6200. I had a '95 L AWD sedan, but it was a manual. If the car is 2WD, then its a 1.8L. 2.2L motors were only available in the AWD configuration.

The manual selector is a cool feature. It will allow you to start the car in 2nd gear if the weather is nasty...snow, mud, etc. My 1990 Legacy has it as well. Also, is there a power light on the instrument console? Like between the tach and speedo?

Yeah I saw the power light... It came on when driving..

I only took the car because this body style is hard to find.. i hate to rant but Subaru finally came to their senses and upped their production. I wished the car was Awd.. oh.

Believe it or not...the car can handle as good as the AWD models. I'd probably find some Legacy 15 inch alloys, and get a new set of struts/springs and front endlinks. I'll probably look for a similar car once my RS is paid off.

Plus, you'll get awesome gas mileage if you're using it as a commuter car.

good gas mileage eh?

Unless the dealer took gas out of the car before he drove it over... the day before he was to drop the car off it had just about 1/2 of gas left.. SO the next day when he drops the car off.. I start it up and boom.. Almost right on "E" about 2 clicks above it.. and he only drove 20 miles.. Anyway $9.00 filled the tank up and it take a long..long...long time for the gas gauge to move up.

I can't remember if I talked about the tire size.. I can't find any tires in stock size! I'm going to have to run a little large 15's if I could.. I dunno. For one thing the car is too bouncy in the rear.

IIRC, Mike Shields has been running a front wheel drive 1.8L Impreza sedan for some time now. I'd probably start off with a set of KYB GR-2 struts and a set of SPT springs. That should cost less than $500 and really change the handling of the car as well as firm things up. I also believe that the 15 inch size would be 195/60/15. I found a great deal on Bridgestone 910s for my Legacy 5 spoke alloy wheels. That really helped the ride and handling too.

I do remember being pissed that the tank in my '95 L was around 12-14 gallons. I usually got around 300 miles to a tank no matter what my driving style was. However, I remember my fuel gauge acting funny, but then again the low fuel light was on in my '02 OBS last night and the fuel light was below 'E'. Here's the funny part...the car has a 15.9 gallon tank, but it only took 12.7 gallons to fill it up? The gauge in this car is much different than my '01 RS so its possible that the guage is off.

Its also possible that it needs a service, new plugs, air filter, fuel filter, etc. I did notice that fuel economy did drop once the car was near a major service, 30k, 60k, 90k, and up.

Wow another fuel tank issue like me.. yeah I went and put gas in my moms forester it's a 98 with a 15.9 gal tank.. ok so it was on 1/25 it seemed all it needed was $10.00 Which I think was around 6 Gal worth.. it surpized me and my mom.. I'm going to keep a look out with this..

The plugs in this car are much easier to get to then the 2.5L engine not too sure about the 2.2 but with the 1.8 so small alot of room around.. the air filter needs to be replaced.. I might remove the whole air box once I get enough money to do all of this.

I think the stock tire size on now are 13's wont I get a speedo error? i think 15's would look better and i would have alot better tires to pick from.

Tiny tires!! if yo go with a 15 inch wheel and wider tires you will go with a lower aspect ratio, so the sidewall will be lower profile. THis means the rolling diameter is the same.It will allow you to run larger wheels so there will be more wheel less tire, and generally a wider tire on a 15 inch wheel. my fuel guage is also funny. My AWD L has a 13 gal tank, the gauge drops quickly but stays at a quarter tank forever. when the needle is resting at the stop below E i still have 2 gallons left. drving hard with my 2.5L i get around 280 miles to a tank, although 70MPH expressway over the weekend i got over 340 miles to a tank.

So Hawk 195/60/15 will be fine for the car then? if so I guess about 4 weeks from now I will get a set... I still need some rims but thats another issue.

I knew somewhat about the gas guage being somewhat off but I never expected this much.

These tires remind me of spare tires..

Find someone selling some WRX stock rims with tires. You can usually find a set for $300 or so, with only a couple thousand miles on them.

You get 16" alloy wheels, and fairly new tires for cheap.

Many people don't like the stock tires, but you'll find them servicable for a while, at least.

Best to find a seller close to you, so you don't have to ship them.

I wonder how many L and OBS have MY02 WRX wheels now?

I bought a set. I had them on my RS for a while I was between wheels and I've used two as full size spares for my RS and OBS.

You can try www.teaguesauto.com ...tell them Matt from Florida sent you. :)

Also, www.importautosalvage.com may be able to help. They have a ton of Subaru stuff. Remember, you'll be able to get Forester steel wheels, Legacy 14, 15, and 16 inch wheels, as well as any wheel put on an Impreza. In short, any Subaru wheel made from 1993 to today will fit your car.

Take a lookhere (http://www.cars101.com/impreza_archive93_96.html) for more information about specific model years and tire sizes.

As for the air filter, just get a K&N. The '95 had a good system and the filter should help quite a bit. Also, don't forget to flush the transmission too. :D

I thought subaru said the tranny does not need to be flushed?

I think the stock Wrx rims are 16 inchs? I don't know if I want to stick with 15's or 16's

The transmission is usually flushed out between 15k and 30k services. You may want to try upgrading your fluid as well, I think you can add Redline stuff...don't remember the exact type though.

The WRX wheels aren't bad, but they may make the car look a little monster truckish if its not lowered. They will fit perfectly though.

Here is my old L, its the maroon one. :) (http://www.nasioc.com/images/PhotoPointCD/0008/aindex.htm)

I had a nice set of 15 inch alloys from a Legacy. Lightweight and very strong.

I don't know where I want to start first... inside (speakers and stuff) or do the outside first tires and whatnot..

I can't remember if it was you or not but someone said get the Spt spings for the car. Will it lower the car any?

btw what do spring compressers go for anyway?

These rims are awesome. (http://www.wheels-and-rims.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/car-wheel.html?p_prodid=31586&sid=8LpJDk0lsF1YBRF-42103415511.a9)

Those are the wheels that appeared on a very select few USDM models and many early UK turbo Imprezas.

Take a look at www.aaarims.com too, their prices are a little cheaper and they've got Subaru OEM wheels too.

Both places are pricing per wheel, not a full set. You may want to try F & S in CT...they're a huge Subaru junkyard and you should be able to get a set for a decent price, more than likely cheaper than new. Here's a link to them too: http://www.fsautoparts.com/

The usually have a ton of stuff in stock for all Subarus. :)
