View Full Version : Could the new Evo VII be fashionably late?

With all the fervor over the arrival of the new WRX to U.S. shores, could it be over looked that the way may be paved for others of it's kind? Perhaps it's best not to rejoice too much it the new capabilities of our idol... for it's nemesis is not far behind.

Uh, yes it is. And beside's that EVO is ugly! The front end look's like a Mustang http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/eek.gif I don't think it would do well here. They will have to do alot of detuning to get that car over here.

The evo VII is ugly?? have you even seen pictures of the new wrx? i mean the full out rally version is passible.. and with body kits it looks cool.. but arg those neon headlights...

Don't think it would do well here?? You're nuts... it would sell as fast as the WRX, if not faster. Turbo AWD cars, everyone wants one... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

Does anyone realize that the EVO doesn't compete with the WRX we are getting? The EVO competes with the WRX-STi line, in price and performance. If it does come over, it will be a 35K car, not a 25K car.

Plus Mitsu isn't doing very well right now, slow US sales, quality issues in Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped coming to out shores!

Well, I don't know what you've been smoking WRXPilot, but I want some of it. Calling the new EVO 7 ugly and overlooking the shortcomings of the WRX is a little hypocritical, wouldn't you say?

Let's not turn this into a BMW or worse a Honda board.

ten bucks says mitsubishi is waiting to see how well the wrx will do over here, and if there's enough demand (lets say it becomes another miata/pt cruiser/s2000), then they'll probably hop on the bandwagon too.. this car could very well pave the way for the skyline and other cool cars, and with the economy going down and fuel prices going up, i wouldn't be surprise if peugot and a few other european makers bring their little gas sipping, quick econoboxes!

I'm with WRX Pilot, I actually like the WRX's looks better than the EVO VII's. I'm really starting to like how it looks with the dealer installed spoiler, side moldings, and lower lip.

I like how they both look. I actualy like the WRX head lights. But who cares if you dont like it or we do. All I want is some other than Honda/Acura performence Japanese cars in the market. So we can teach people what real Japanese cars are like.

I won't mind the EVO. I love the EVO 4-6 series. But the interior is just bit old. Even Subaru has updated their WRX interiors and I expect the same from Mitsu.

Thanks Kavman, reports of Mitsus demise have been exaggerated... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

I think we'll see an EVO in the states, at least I hope so. Yes, I think we all know it doesn't compare to the base WRX. So what? You think the STi version that alot of people are waiting for is going to be any cheaper than an EVO? It won't be.

Just the possibility of us having more than one choice for a turbo AWD car is amazing... we all win if it comes over... More choices is always good.

Oh, it's coming alright, if the WRX takes off.

Also, the car won't cost $35k US. It sells in Japan for $25.5k so I wouldn't expect more than $28k. That is a serious performance bargain.

Well, I have been watching these forums for awhile now and I have to tell everyone something in my first post. I have been living in Japan for 3 years and my wife is a Japanese National. We just returned to America.

Whoever said that the Lancer Evo goes for 25K$ is full of &$#@. You would be very lucky if you can find a 2 year old, high kilometer evo VI for 3.5 million yen. I know this from experience. I shopped all over Tokyo/Yokohama looking for a well priced turbo car for about a year.

That is my $.02!

Yo,
I can definitely see this car coming over here in the $25,000-$30,000 range. Easily. They'll just de-tune the thing. DUH PEOPLE. I think it looks pretty sweet. A heck of lot more pleasing to the eye than the new wrx AT FIRST SIGHT. We'll see it for sure. It'll have a 2.0 and have between 220HP and 240HP.
This is true.

My foot is in my mouth. I appoligize. I think that is great but the lancer cedillia?? is a wimpy looking economy car. I guess that cost cutting is popular these days.

I do however love the Brembo breaks and all that.

Sounds like a killer steal! I want one and I hope that they come to the states. Once again, sorry!

Who cares what it looks like!? I would have ordered a WRX even if it looked like a Pontiac. The more competition the better. Ugly looks=good. The looks will separate the diehard fans like us from everone else who wants on the bandwagon. I personally think my RS looks better than the new style WRX, but I ordered a rex anyway. I couldn't resist the performance/price ratio.

BTW, if I had a choice...WRX vs. EVO, I'd take the WRX, simply because I LOVE Soobs.

I do hope that the EVO's do eventually make it to the USM. But do you remember the last Turbo 4WD from Mitsu..the Eclipse? The GSX Started at 25k+..If the Evo's do make it here its going to be alot more than our American Made and Sold GSX's...

Not to kick a dying horse or anything but I could see it plausible if Mitsu was leaving the US. I hardly ever see the newer eclpises on the road, compared to the older styles which seemed like everyone had one. Just my .02cents as well.

Mitsu is having problems concealing their recalls to worry about exporting an evo, at whatever price. They are grey market cars in europe anyway you can't just go to a mitssu dealer and buy one can you? I thought they had to be purchased through Ralli art.

From what I've been seeing on the roads in Colorado, I'd say that the new Eclipses are selling really well. I see tons of them on the roads. Many more of those than Imprezas.

Mitsu is getting back on track. They have already gotten axed by the Japanese Govt. and are done with the recall coverups. Their sales are still slow but I think as soon as this new EVO hits the streets in Japan they will get back on their feet. Mitsu has a very loyal following in Japan so I think that they will be alright. Maybe in a year or two we will see the Lancer...possibly the EVO VIII by that time. It ought to be just about time to trade in my WRX by that time

Wasn't Mistu talking just a few months ago about getting out of cars in NA all together. IIRC their market share is like even smaller then SOAs and they were going to focus on what the sell plenty of in the US, trucks and SUVs. I Don't really care for the looks of the new EVO VII either. IMO the WRX looks way better. Plus like opie said if they brought it over it's gonna be like 35k+. Americans are not gonna pay that much for a loaded, hopped up mirage. Particularly when they have two other performance/sporty Mitsu cars that aren't doing that great sales wise. Mistu doesn't need to build their performance image like SOA does. We might get a bumped up Mirage similar to the Mazda MP3, but I doubt they'll spend the $$$ to bring the EVO here.

Come on guys,
Both cars kick a$$ but anyone involved in the auto industry will tell you Mitsubishi is in major trouble. They are still contemplating leaving the US market. The last thing they can afford to do is make that car work in our market and support it. They are in the same position Nissan was in a few years ago.

WRX Pilot

Well, like I said...I think it is ugly but that is just me. I don't like Square car's. I like rounded body line's. So that's where I'm coming from on that point. And the other about not doing well here has to do with how much it will cost. For that money it will not do well here, in my opinion. There is not that great a market in the US yet for these types of car's, in comparison, specially at a high price tag.

hehe.... I was THIS close to buying a WRX, till rumors actually started solidifing about the Evo 7 (just like the WRX a year before) and I'm glad I did wait, I'll be much happier with an Evo 7.... and it's *cough* close block *cough* engine.... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

IMHO (which is all that matters to me) the Evo 7 looks better, it handles better, it brakes better, it is faster, it has more hp and it can be modded to much higher levels than wrx's closed block.... (althought i hear the ride of the evo isn't refined) I just hope it stays the same as the Evo 7 specs we know now.... all in due time... glad I waited

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The continuing scandal surrounding Mitsubishi's recall concealment fiasco has led to a number of other new car launches being postponed.

In addition to the two-month postponement of the Lancer Evolution 7's launch, the Lancer Cedia turbo wagon planned for April has been set back to summer as has the all-new SUV AirTrek which was headed for a May unveiling. And the launch of the Toppo BJ, which was due for some major modifications, has been slotted way back from the beginning of this year to October.

Finally, a new small car destined for an October launch appears set to appear at October's Tokyo Motor Show as a concept model and not appear in showrooms until next spring.

If Mitsu were leaving the U.S., why would they do this?

Toronto, ON -Building on its extraordinary momentum and record US sales, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA), today announced its plans to enter the Canadian market through Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada.

Mitsubishi Motors anticipates it will begin selling cars in Canada early in 2003, with a goal of opening 51 dealerships in the first year, growing to 150 dealerships within five years.

Canada is the only major global automotive market in which Mitsubishi Motors does not currently sell vehicles.

Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada plans to sell and distribute the same models sold in the United States (eight models in 2003).

Back to me: Daimler-Chrysler now has an interest in Mitsu. Why would they back out of the U.S. market? And maybe Mitsu will use the Evo in marketing just like Chrysler uses the Viper. BTW, wouldn't the Evo coming to the U.S. only bring the STI here sooner? Isn't that a good thing?

If anybody is leaving the US market it'd be Subaru, Daewoo, or Kia... I see more of those gdamn Monteros than all of the three aformentioned mfg's combined. SUV's are where it's at, people. And Mitsubishi sells a ton of them. Not station wagons, not rally cars, but SUV's. Sad but true...

I hope it comes over here and quickly so subaru will release the sti all the sooner to compete. I would imagine that if mistu said today that it was a posative thing they would release the EVO7 here around august or so that they would all sell out befor it even reached the dealership. depending on number and price, but still it would be very close.
