My friend has a 95 AWD Impreza and he found that by inserting a fuse into a connector under the hood (which is between the passenger side wiper and strut top) the car will enter some kind of 2-wheel-drive dyno mode and a light comes on saying "front wheel drive" on the instrument cluster.

Is it OK to drive around all the time in this mode in order to increase gas mileage?

Thanks for any info on this.

Read the owners manual!!! The only time you should ever put the 4EAT tranny into FWD mode is for emergency towing or to counter a flat. Do not, repeat, DO NOT try to dyno the car on a 2 wheel dyno  :disco:

yeah.. my mom's 98 forester manual says the same thing BOY said.. it's not for use of driving around daily.. it's for towing and testing use. testing does not include dyno use as it says to make sure you use a dyno for awd cars.
