View Full Version : Test drove an RS today....
walt mazar 07-01-2003, 07:33 PM A 2000 5 speed...basically it was everything I expected it to be, and exactly what I long for in my Outback Sport. Just enough more power to make it fun, tighter less twitchy steering and handling,SUNROOF,great seats, more storage bins, better leather wrapped wheel,SUNROOF,nicer gauges, the double cam revs easier,(salesman said it was a double?? ) SUNROOF....did I mention the SUNROOF? I swore I would never buy a car without a sunroof again..but I did. Arrrrgh.
The not so good: big wing takes getting used too , as I felt like someone was following me, clutch was too light and grabbed right off the floor, and no hatchback space. BTW...they have twins, a silver one and a blue one..both 2000s. nice ! .
JewPac42 07-01-2003, 08:02 PM Salesmen dosnt kno what hes talking about. The 98's has the phase 1 DOHC engines, for the RS they were phased out after that year and the 99-01's have the Phase 2 SOHC engines. All the other N/A subbies switched over for MY00. But I agrees, it is a sweet car, picked mine up a month ago and have loved every minute of it.
Brad Pittiful 07-01-2003, 09:25 PM so are ya going to buy it?
what were they asking for them?
where ya located?, in case someone is looking to pick one up in your area
quentinberg007 07-01-2003, 09:47 PM get the silver one, and i will swap you wings :) (I have the smaller sedan wing on my RS) I'm dying to find a coupe wing.

Ill be sellin my coupe wing soon. Granted its BRP so you would have to get it painted, but ill give it to you for 150 shipped.
balajc 07-01-2003, 10:28 PM I bought a 2000 RS coupe earlier this year...sweet car :) Oh and it has SOHC so the salesman was wrong...
My clutch is light but catches past the half point, it catches pretty high...dunno if this is normal (my first stick car)

Its actually not available yet. Im taking my stuff to get painted soon.
d0hboy 07-03-2003, 05:31 PM I testdrove the same thing only auto about a month back; I agree the engine really feels fun and pulls well.
I personally didn't like the coupe wing, way too large..

This isn't entirely correctly. There's some fudge factor there.
98 2.5RS: DOHC, Phase 1 block
early 99 2.5RS: SOHC, Phase 1 block
late 99 2.5RS: SOHC, Phase 2 block
00-01 2.5RS: SOHC, Phase 2 block
Not real sure when the split was in 99, but several people on the board appear to have Phase 2 blocks in, stock, and I think we came to the conclusion that they were all later build dates.
rbehny 07-06-2003, 08:14 PM well the salesman could have been correct if he was implying there was two cams.. even though we call that SOHC, he is essentially correct :p
sorry.. always have to play devils advocate.. :alien:
NimrodBoz 07-06-2003, 09:06 PM some of you think the coupe (well, 2-door) wing is way too large?! ha, i want the STi ver 5 wing because i want the taller rally style wing! i love the coupe wing though as well....not a fan of the sedan wing at all. however i do think that the new age low wing is quite nice, maybe you can get that fitted on the new RS? i think it would be a cool look.
HondaH8er 07-06-2003, 09:54 PM The coupe wing does take a little getting used to, but it's very nice at night, as it's at the perfect hight to block the headlights of the car behind you, so you don't get the glare in your mirror.
NimrodBoz 07-06-2003, 11:44 PM its funny because thats completely true for me as well. no matter what the vehicle behind you is, the lights are usually perfectly blocked by the wing. id imagine that with a wing like the version 5/6s that there isnt much of a visibility issue because its so high.
The only thing I run into with my ver 5 wing is, its sometimes difficult to tell who is a cop and who isn't because when someone gets right up on you, your view of their roof line is blocked.
