View Full Version : A-pilar mounted WRX boost gauge
AutoXr 02-15-2001, 11:06 PM I am interested in an A-pilar mounted boost gauge for the WRX. I haven't seen any yet and was wondering if anyone had. Also, who makes a decent boost gauge that would fit such a mount? I have seen gauges from VDO, AutoMeter and others, but have no idea who makes good quality stuff. Any preferrences?
newscooby 02-16-2001, 06:51 AM I've got an Autometer fuel pressure guage and A/F meter for my hybrid Integra mounted on my A-pillar. They work as advertised and have comparable accuracy to standardized measurement devices. (IE a wide band A/F meter and an inline fuel pressure gauge)
And they were relatively inexpensive as I got them from carpart.com with one of their 33% off discount codes.
This is what I'm planning on doing with my WRX. Boost, Oil pressure, and temp.

ConeMasher 02-16-2001, 08:57 AM Ahh, but a good A-pillar gauge mount is specifically made for your car.... it essentially replaces the stock A-pillar (or covers it) and shares the same color and texture. The difference being that the pillar smoothly transitions into pods for 1, 2, or 3 gauges. I had a LoTek A-pillar 2-gauge mount for my Eclipse GSX... it was about $70 and it looked GREAT. Most non-car nuts thought it was stock.
I'd much prefer this solution to the "cut your stock pillar cover and rivet/glue on a big ugly pod" type deal. Hopefully the aftermarket will help us out.
One thought for autocrossers... the pods do obstruct your vision a bit more than the stock a-pillar... and if you're like me, you're trying to look THRU the pillar quite often.

RacerinLSL 02-16-2001, 09:21 AM I had two a-pillar gauges in my GSX, but the 2 guage factory look mount was not available. An installer at a local stereo shop fiberglassed the pods to the a pillar and texture painted. It actually looked better than the one piece kits, but cost me about $150. Was worth it though. I will probably do this again in my WRX b/c I like that location better than the center dash hood.
SilverSubie 02-21-2001, 05:33 PM Would the 2.5rs a-pillar pod work on the new wrx...or has someone already made an a-pillar pod.
ae3753 02-21-2001, 07:10 PM A boost gauge on the A-pillar is what I would like to do as well. Clean, simple, easy to read. Looking over the middle of the car to read gauges is not that easy. Nor safe at times. Hopefully a pre-fab gauge pod exists http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
PunksRS 02-21-2001, 07:29 PM I'd like to do the same thing. With all the enthusiasm for the new WRX I don't think it will be long until the A-pillar pods are available (if they are not already). I recently installed a dual meter pod in a 96 Dodge Ram (Cummins turbo diesel) and it looked great. It was only the pod that attached to the A-pillar and not the whole A-pillar replacement but it looked great as we painted it to match the A-pillar. A very clean install that looked factory.

harrydog 03-23-2001, 06:18 PM I wonder if this is available for the new WRX? It doesn't look too bad. www.scoobymania.com/site_flash.asp?page=gauges (http://www.scoobymania.com/site_flash.asp?page=gauges)
I wrote to Scoobymania about this pod. According to the reply they are working on a MY01/02 version that should be out in a few weeks.
430752 03-23-2001, 10:27 PM yeah, doesn't oz have many of these? I mean, they've had the car for many years in its prior iteration. Saw many a-pillar guage pods (altho' wrong side). Dunno if they have new ones, but gotta imagine they do. If so, the audollar is cheap and shipping on a pod has to be inexpensive (considering). check our mrt or the like down there.

LangstonSubaru 03-24-2001, 09:34 AM MRT wil have a LHD for the WRX in a few weeks. You're right about them having the WRX for a few years, but this is still a new body style to them too. The just know about the drivetrain,as it is still mostly the same. I'm considering running a groupbuy when they become available, as I'm the western PA agent for MRT. Any questions please email me at parts@bianchisubaru.com, Thanks Brian
AutoXr 03-24-2001, 10:42 AM OK, so it sounds like the pods are a work in progress and will be out before the end of summer (guess). Does anyone have a favorite boost gauge or brand? I was hoping to get one that measured PSI and had a top end of 20.
SilverSubie 03-24-2001, 11:57 AM I'm going with Autometer, Sportcomp boost/vacum - 20mm/hg...30psi, and electric fuel pressure on the A-pillar. They'll match the stock gauges great besides the stock yellow needles...
-they also make that same boost gauge, but it goes to 20 psi.
