i have a 96' OB w/ 209,000 miles. i am in love with this car. the question is with this many miles is it a good idea to add perf. parts. it is a daily driver. and being a college student i am limited to the amount of cars i can have:rolleyes:

I say yes. At this point you can pick and choose your modifications. Add a K&N air filter. Get a better set of tires. Get better brake fluid and stainless steel lines. Do a brake conversion. All of these can have set price limits, but at 209k, you can upgrade while you replace regular wear and tear items. Just set a budget and do some research. You can make the car handle and perform better than when it was new.

For instance...if you need new struts, get a set of KYBs. :) Its an upgrade and direct replacement for your car. Their GR2s should be fine and moderately priced.

You can always do endlinks and springs if you want, but the springs will cause you to loose a good bit of ground clearance. Also second hand modifications from other members is a good cheap way to go as well.

Matt hit the nail on the head! I'll second the Gr2s. Might consider poly-bushings too. After all you do have 200+K! Yeah, whenever you have any car, the "upgraded" "performance" items are always the correct replacement parts!

To justify pricing, compare dealer parts to performance parts, you'll save and be stylin'!:cool:

when i looked at the Gr2's it says that they are not for the outback. is this correct and if so can they be made to work?

Those are all excellent ideas. I just bought a '96 L that I'm converting to an auto-x/track car that has 155K miles. The 2.2l engines are tough!

What you will want to look for is stuff for the GC8/RS that stuff should all bolt right on.

Currently I'm selling some Whiteline Lowering springs that actually came off an outback sport. They are $50 + shipping if interested. I was gonna put em on my L but then decided to get a new set of eibachs. You can find deals on all kinds of stuff, like Strut tower bars, sway bars, end links, rims/tires. Also you can bolt up stock WRX calipers and rotors, I just did this on my L.

Not a whole lot of power mods, but handling is always a good thing :) Worst case if it blows up you can find an Impreza L or RS and bolt all those goodies to it.
