View Full Version : I hate faux carbon fiber, BUT........
RacerinLSL 03-27-2001, 08:10 AM After visiting a local dealer and seeing the difference between cheesy silver trim and faux carbon fiber trim, I prefer the c/f I think. Anyone else come to this conclusion? It just blends in better and actually doesn't look as cheap.

whiteWRX 03-27-2001, 08:50 AM haven't seen it yet, but i'm interested from pics i've seen.
blkwag 03-27-2001, 09:00 AM I agree that the silver looks really cheap. Looks like something I'd do with a can a silver spray paint. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
I wish they went the extra step and made it like brushed aluminum instead. But if they did that, BMW and Audi owners would be even more scared. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

JTaylor 03-27-2001, 09:02 AM I saw the carbon fiber trim at the dealer also and had much the same impression. It was getting dark, however, so I decided to reserve my judgement until later.
Are you purchasing a car here in St. Louis? I went to visit Lou Fusz Subaru and the manager was telling me that he was expecting the cars to sell out for the year soon. I have a hard time believing that.
I was hoping to wait until fall to purchase a car, but I wonder if there will be any WRXs available at that time.
I was also told no cars would be available for test drive. The salesman said I could order one with a refundable $500 deposit. If I don't like the car once it is in, I can get my money back. Is that what you are getting also?
thanks,
Jeff
newscooby 03-27-2001, 09:16 AM That's what I thought as well. The silver plastic trim looks hokey and out-of-place. I'll take the fake C/F trim, Thank you

Tobias_Ostapchuk 03-27-2001, 09:18 AM I just bought a 2002 WRX and the dealer took the liberty of installing C/F trim before parking the car on the lot. I like it, although I would have preferred a matte finish to the gloss.
Either way, the WRX is a much more refined car when compared to my 1998 2.5 RS. The seats are larger and more comfortable, the covering is thicker, as is the carpeting. I really think that Subaru hit a home run with this car, so just buy one.....regardless of the interior appointments. You won't be disappointed!
This car feels like an Audi or Volkswagen...and it is certainly much more refined than the previous generation RS! (And there is much less cheapo plastic!)
RacerinLSL 03-27-2001, 09:20 AM JTaylor,
Fusz has an auto WRB sedan right now. They should let you take it for a spin. It is NOT sold. Every dealer in STL is sporadically getting non-sold units in, so just keep your eye open. When I sell my RS, I'll buy one in the area if available or order one if I need to.

ShookUp 03-27-2001, 09:41 AM If your willing to cross the river, Auffenberg St. Clair Auto Mall in O'Fallon, IL should give you a test drive.
They've got a Blue WRX Automatic that’s available for test drive.
Just tell them you heard about it on I-club.
Supra Turbo 03-27-2001, 09:53 AM I'm happy to hear the positive comments about the increased comfort and class in the WRX. I test drove a 01 2.5rs and while the car was great, I felt cramped in the drivers seat. I looked over a black WRX sportwagon at the dealer last night, and it looks awesome! I really have to take one for a test drive now. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
I hope it meets my expectations in the power area, I have never driven a scooby that had what I consider enough power.
Also, I'm not too concerned about the turbo holding up, I have an '88 GL10 Turbo wagon with 172,000 on it. Turbo still works fine! Engine burns a ton of oil though, probobly run hard and put away hot.
Keep up the post about your impressions, lots of us are eagerly waiting!!

Tobias_Ostapchuk 03-27-2001, 11:46 AM Supra Turbo,
I am 6'3 and 225lbs, and I HAD a 1998 RS coupe that I barely fit in.....The seat was all the way back and the wheel was all the way up. The WRX is TOTALLY ROOMIER, and the interior is what I would call "Plush" for a Japanese car. It is definitely on par with what I have seen out there from the European manufacturers.
As for power and drivability, the engine is buzzy and rev-happy. It is also very docile up until 2700 rpm, when the wastegate begins to spool up and the car becomes increasingly more powerful, right up to the redline. It requires a slightly different driving discipline than the RS, but it is also by far more refined, more rigid, more powerful and much more fun to drive....and I had 65,000 miles on the 2.5 RS that I traded in on this Rex.

thast wierd, although i wouldve preferred real alum, or maybe even something entirely different, everyone that gets in the car seems to love the fake alum trim...
MattSEG 03-27-2001, 12:32 PM Just wait a few months, and you'll be able to get whatever trim you want.....I personally really want a replacement for the trim in the in dash cupholder, that cupholder is soo cheesy I'd rather not have it.
Gambit 03-27-2001, 12:52 PM Hmm... hope u guys are not turning into some whine and cheese dolts who prefer the superficial surface interior look and comfort compared to what the car can offer - raw performance! U guys remind me of the folks at vwvortex. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
Its just too bad that its fake!
At least I am happy that it is actual replacement pieces and not just a overlay kit.

The silver trim doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, I am not saying that it looks good, but its acceptable until a suitable brushed aluminium overlay is available.

I know you're just razzing me, but since when is it silly to care about the cheesiness of the interior of your car? I love the new Celica interior if they would just get rid of silver painted plastic. CHEAPCHEAP!!http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
