Most likely physical dimensions have not changed but Im curious about the connections on the alternator. Would I be able to use an 02 WRX alternator on my 1990 legacy (for example)?

View Full Version : Alternator compatibility between models/years. Could I use a 02 WRX on my Legacy 90? ciper 07-19-2003, 04:02 AM Most likely physical dimensions have not changed but Im curious about the connections on the alternator. Would I be able to use an 02 WRX alternator on my 1990 legacy (for example)? vrg3 07-20-2003, 03:31 AM I'm pretty sure the connectors are different. The Legacy has a 4-pin round connector and the WRX has a 3-pin inline connector. I would imagine you could adapt it, though. At absolute worst you might have to rig your own driving circuit for the charge warning idiot light, or do without it. I don't know about the physical dimensions. armand1 07-21-2003, 05:43 PM Most likely your Legacy needs a higher-output alternator than the WRX's. IIRC, the WRX alternator puts out only 70 A. vrg3 07-21-2003, 05:45 PM The Legacy's alternator also only puts out 70 amps. Why would the Impreza and the Legacy have different electrical requirements? |
