Most likely physical dimensions have not changed but Im curious about the connections on the alternator. Would I be able to use an 02 WRX alternator on my 1990 legacy (for example)?

I'm pretty sure the connectors are different. The Legacy has a 4-pin round connector and the WRX has a 3-pin inline connector. I would imagine you could adapt it, though. At absolute worst you might have to rig your own driving circuit for the charge warning idiot light, or do without it.

I don't know about the physical dimensions.

Most likely your Legacy needs a higher-output alternator than the WRX's. IIRC, the WRX alternator puts out only 70 A.

The Legacy's alternator also only puts out 70 amps.

Why would the Impreza and the Legacy have different electrical requirements?
