View Full Version : There is a gearbox strengthening kit
ebeck 07-20-2003, 03:47 AM www.Have a look (http://www.anythingsubaru.com/products.pl?method=blur-products&category=gearboxes) First off, I do not know what it is comprised of. I do not know how it works. It does strengthen the GB. So they claim.
When I contacted them by e-mail, who ever was responsible for answering was on a rally in AU. they never got back to me. May be something to it. Maybe not. Here it is though. I hear Modena eng. (another AU company I think) has a similar item as well. Can not find them or any contact info for them.
neverendingmods 07-21-2003, 01:27 AM Cool website. Let us know if they get back to you on what is included. No pictur and no detail explanation=
ebeck 07-21-2003, 12:01 PM I am placing an international call today at 5:00 pm to try to get to the bottom of this. Argh! Thee guys look serious though.
A little hopefull bananna!
stimpy 07-21-2003, 01:30 PM Interesting that they attribute this case flex to that of the front differential and not torque placed on other components.
I look forward to hearing what is said.

ebeck 07-21-2003, 02:20 PM Yep, I thought so too. Definitly makes sense. There is the twisting. So it would seem. what do I know.
So R U going to be the genie (sp?) pig for this??
turboICE 07-21-2003, 04:31 PM I think it guinea (may not be exact but closer). Unless you are looking for a pig to come out of lamp. :)
I think I saw this kit before (or maybe just a component of the kit) from another link with more explanation. But there was no actual case support being added that I can recall, it was internals and I don't recall a shaft bearing. It says it is eliminating flex coming from the front diff. What does this do for the shaft deflection you have been schooling us on in other threads?

Rub me *****!
ebeck 07-22-2003, 12:54 AM Yeah, I have no idea what it does with shaft flex. Since shaft flex is a huge conrtibutor to flex than anything reducing flex should help. I do not know. Unless the diff is the major contributor not the shaft. Hmmm. Anyhow, I am just trying to find out about the kit. Something to this kit? Maybe maybe not. We'll see. At this point, it is just investigative with no intent to say this is the fix or will address the shaft flex problem. All up in the air until I get them on the line. I will ask about it's use in general case flex reduction and so on. Perhaps they have cases with bearings? Who knows. These guys are pretty serious it would seem. I'll keep you posted.
Anyhow, I called them today.:) Got a residential location.:( Dialed again,:) got the same house. :( I printed the contact page so I would not write it down wrong. ;) I re-e-mailed them copying all 4 contacts listed. Keep you posted.
I love icons! :disco:
neverendingmods 07-23-2003, 02:38 AM Awhile back, someone was discussing a shaft sleeve/ new bearing replavement. What shaft, what bearing I have no idea.It was actually a shop that was offering this mod. Can't tack down thread.

neverendingmods,
This may be the transmission shaft (snout) fix link (http://www.pdmturbos.com/aspforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=transmission%2Csnout) that you were referring to above. Logically, also a cure for clutch chatter issues others have mentioned.
