well as my eg33 is nearing the end of its life, ive decided that the 5spd with the 3.3 isnt enough. I would like to install a b4 engine in its place. If anyone has any experience with this i would love to talk. MY email address is bigdhilll@aol.com If anyone has any thoughts or importers you have gone through to get bot the engine/wiring/ecu iwould really appreciate it. Thanks alot

I know this place stocks 'em and they're not bad on prices:

http://www.nippon-motors.com/

My friend got an older EJ20 turbo motor for his GC from them and said the service was great.

My guess would be that custom exhaust plumbing for the second turbo would be necessary to clear the steering hardware in a LHD car. That's pretty much the case in GCs and Legacies to get the motor to fit.

Good luck, it sounds like a fun project!

hmm is the engine cross member in a svx the same as whats in a inpreza/legacy/forester

might seriously consider a usdm motor. more wireing head aches less custom metal fabrication

for the price of a b4 engine and fabrication probably will still be under what it would cost me for a lowe milage SVX engine, look at hte price list. My mechanic is exclellent, but i could do alot of the wiring myslef. Like you said its not all that hard its just a matter of patience and alot of time.

engine crossmemeber is not the same, let me take some pics and then maybe you can help me out?
thanks jaxx
I was really looking forward to putting the ej20tt into my SVX, when you say alot of the piping has to be rerouted becuase of the steering column im assuiming your talking about a WRX or 2.5 engine bay?

He is talking about the fact that the B4 engine is designed for a RHD only car and makes no considerations for the component locations in a LHD car.

Things you can do...

freshen up the EG33, get the heads cleaned up and gasket matched, etc.

Take the EG33 and get the crank welded and offset ground for a EJ25 stroke, then do the EJ25 bore on the block. Run aftermarket EJ25 rods and pistons. EG37 ownz you

After that it gets to be a real mess of custom work.

I guess I'd wait till the STi type-US and 2.5XT motors and stuff are availble in the junkyards. Good starting place. Avoid the TT motors.

Then do a custom turbo setup with a garret GT placed ahead of the motor between the radiator and the motor. The shorter length of the 4cyl should make it not too difficult to find the room. The header will be interesting to do, but not hard for someone with the tools. The run a narrower than normal aftermarket radiator so you have 2.5" or so to run IC pipes past one side of the radiator to massively cut down on pipe length and bends.

Actually, the EG33 is a much better engine than most realize. I run the SVX FAQ, and am aware of several people who have modified them. For instance, one in particular was built for a dune buggy. This gentleman is using a stock EG33. The only mods are a TEC II EFI system, custom headers, and two K&N filters (SVX has dual throttle bodies). This was tuned on an engine dyno and produces 330hp (crank) at 6800. That's without touching anything inside the motor. Stock cams, block, pistons, everything. The SVX has always suffered from a very restrictive exhaust which greatly limits the horsepower. Peak VE is at a very high 4400 RPM with 228 lb/ft, so you know it has plenty of cam and port capacity.

i NEVER saidanything about it being a bad engine its a glorious engine which has served me well. And about the 330 crank hp your full of it. This engine isnt capable of flowing enough air without forced induction to create anywere newar that power, the ehxuast resictrion isnt good for more then 5hp, i am "phast svx" on the network, and i hold the fastest 1/4 time of any NA SVX on the registry and on the network.

The heads have no steps in them at all, porting and polishing will yield extremely small gains, the eg33 was built from the factory and produces impressive power for its size and weight(especially for its time) and runs strong for many years. You cant ask for more.

Umm...Ok. It seems your knowledge far surpasses that of other people who have used these engines for dune buggies, dragsters, and homebuilt aircraft. Even those with dyno sheets to prove it! Don't know why a simple post should get you all upset. Peace!

Then get me the dyno sheet, and i will shut up! And if your reffering to frank aragona jr he has far from a stock eg33.
I have spoke with him on two occassions about hes buildup at rt 66 when he has competed here(supercharged and sprayed, 9:1 compression custom built nitrous pistons) And he was the one that reccamended i NOT attempt and EG buildup, if i was concerend about power i should go for an ej swap. I would LOVE to build an EG and maybe with my stock motor which i will still have i can begging to do it slowly and right. but its deifntly out of my equation for now.

P.S. heres franks dragster

yea its defintly getting close to being time to give them a call. I ran a 14.7 on the bottle(50 shot), but on returning home my car is hesitating.

Okay, I see you guys arguing about the fact. I have got an EJ20TT in the process of going into my 1992 SVX LSL. There are a few problems I have encountered. The exhaust manifolds bump the crossmember and have to be modified to not be constantly rubbing the sides, the mounts are close enough to the same where it can be bolted in with some time and work. Wiring wise, just get an EMS (Link Management System ran me about $1200) and there are a few other clitches to work out.
