View Full Version : Omori Egt woes

Got manifold tapped for egt probe, hooked up probe to gauge harness. Gauge is pinned at lowest position and will not move. Checked for voltage across the two terminals of the probe and it seems to be working (voltage increasing with rpm, then slowly dropping after cars is off)

Triple checked wiring, ground seems good (got jumpy needle with bad ground at first). Whats wierd is when i push peak/hold button 3/4 of way in it jumps to a reading but then pins itself down if pushed all the way in. I think the gauge itself may be funked. I really hope its not the thermocouple as its not to accessible. What am i missing?

hmmm, take the two metal connectors from the gauge that plug into the thermocouple. you know what i mean? the ones that connect to the gauge and are about 3 feet long? take them and plug them into each other. the gauge should hit it's max reading. if not i think the gauge is probably messed up.

well i know that when i just dissconnect that wire, it pegs at max reading

hmm well maybe it's the thermocouple.

try messuring the resistence through the thermocouple as you rev the engine.

resistance climbs as engine revs, leads me to believe its the gauge itself.

I have installed 5 Omori guages so far and three of them have the same problem. Still trying to get it solved through Jspec. let us know if you find a solution.

TaiChih - Two of the problems that you're having can be solved by changing the place that you tapped. The only two places that we recommend in tapping for boost pressure is the BOV and the hose leading to the fuel regulator. Correct me if I'm wrong but you tapped the line between the solenoid and the wastegate. Change the tap location and if there still is a prob, let us know.

The only other issue you have is the EGT and we would really like to know where you tapped for power and illumination. I had a customer recently that tapped for illumination in the "ACC" terminal of the wires leading to the clock. That caused all sorts of issues. The illumination wire can be attached to a switched source but it needs to be tapped to a constant source such as "LIGHT".

Thaison, I'll be finding out tomorrow and wednesday about Joe and Patricks guages ( to see if it a hose tapping issue). I'll keep you posted.;) thanks. as for the EGT, It is tapped to the other guages through a relay system I made. So in theory, all three of his guages shouldn't work, but his oil pressure reads just fine, so I know it's not a wiring issue.

Please let me know what comes about. On the EGT gauge, if there's an issue, you know a replacement is just phone call away.

OT- Thaison, got the boost to work, Thanks for the advice on tapping them there. now just need those special restrictor T fittings to tap into the BOV for Joe and Patrick. ;)

fyi-PAtrick's EGT will still not be working though. so, what advice do you have that you would like me to check for him tomorrow.

Give me a call tomorrow on my personal cell. You should have the number. If not PM me. Just want to see what characteristics you are seeing and go through some troubleshooting steps.
Thanks,
Thaison

Is it the ***-**19 number? I'll call tomorrow afternoon sometime. thanks

Yup, I'm dumb. No problem with the guages, just me. After going over the wiring for sometime to make absolutely sure the guages had the proper power, light, etc. It turns out I did not realize that the gauges were backwards. I had it wired for Boost, EGT, then oil pressure. the gauges were EGT, Boost, oil pressure on the a pillar pod.:banana: I believe I win some sort of prize.....like a swift kick in the.....
THANK YOU to Thaison of J-spec Tuning going above and beyond the call of business customer service to help resolve the situation. He has been nothing short of amazing in helping out.

all hijacking aside ;) i'm glad you got the gauges worked out. I just ordered a brand new egt gauge so we'll see if it was the gauge or the thermocouple.
